Let's turn the argument around. We can't trade both. We should trade one, for two reasons (at the least):
* Their total salary sum is excessive with no basis in regards to our current situation.
* Given our progress curve on how likely we are to make the finals, one should be traded. In short, we need a prospect up. Or a bad backup.
Mrazek was the easiest to trade. He is younger, has shown flashes of brilliance and was on the incline.
Do I like it? Slightly no. Does it matter, judging from our team, in a snapshot of the present? Not a bit.
Opinion: trade both, I'd say. But I do understand if that seems harsh.

Green Should have been traded, it is blasphemy and heresy not to. Even a 3rd would have been acceptable given the info we recieved right after the deadline. I am sure something could have been arranged like krsmith mentioned in the post just before mine.

It still doesn't explain why Green couldn't have been traded for a conditional pick. That's the whole point of conditional picks.

Chaps80, I hear you, and valid points at that. I am unsecure of who will replace Mrazek aswell. However, given this season, and most likely the next, we actually need a bad goalie.
I don't know for sure, but this might be Holland pulling the bathtub plug. It would in fact be an effective way to climb in the draft while still asking the younglings to go all out.

We got a 4th for this guy when we couldn't even give him to Vegas for free before? I'll take it. I would've been okay if Howard had been the one that was traded and we went all in on Petr as well. Worst case scenario he s***s the bed and helps a tank effort, best case he turned into a legit starter. As it is we have a solid, proven guy in Howard and that's fine by me. Good trade imo.

A good, solid move. Gets the Jacksoni stamp of approval. He was worth literally eastern european peanuts early autumn. Now we get two middle round picks for him. Hallelujah.

Budget teams make budget moves. LA is probably thinking the change of scenery/being on a better team helps Phaneuf.

I still hold a hard grudge against him for pushing the puck while sitting on the bench on to the ice in the playoffs against the Lightning resulting in an automatic penalty. For me, that is simply unacceptable. I would have dropped him on the spot and let the lawyers handle it.

First game of the season I won't watch. I would have Certainly watched if Marchand was playing. That rat is the only thing that reminds me of late 90's hockey, when in my opinion the greatest hockey of all time was played (overall).
Truth be told I want us to loose games. Everytime I watch I want us to win. So the logic is simple, if weird.

I'd buy that. 2 years for 2 million per with some shutout bonuses thrown in etc. Anything over, drop him.

Our standing is good. Bring up the kids.
Sell what you can. Waive what you can. Convince to retire what you can.
If done properly we'll still be bad next season. But with the right mix of young kids we would be a more interesting product, hopefully translating to attendance and mumbles on the electronic internet thingie that soon will be Skynet.

Of course not. I don't think anyone suggested he would or could be. I'm assuming this was in response to what chaps said above? I think you may have misunderstood what he was saying (or am I?) What I took from what he said is that Mrazek would not receive a qualifying offer, and then after becoming a UFA, he could then negotiate a lower salary contract with us (or any other team). I think this is the most likely scenario after this season. If we don't plan on qualifying him this summer, I hope we trade him at the deadline.
I agree with Dabura, there's no way both Howard and Mrazek get traded at the deadline (or in the offseason). All signs point to us trading Petr and going with Jimmy, but if we receive a quality offer for Howard, it would be wise to at least consider it. I've always been a fan of Howard (still am), but if a team gives us a juicy offer, I'd be okay with trading him and riding Mrazek (Coreau backup) for the remainder of this season. That would also be a great way to figure out what we're going to do with Petr going forward. I realize it may be unlikely, but I'm still pulling for him to return to form from a couple years ago...

Just watched this game. I've watched all games, sometimes work makes me put it up a day or so. I make sure not to know the result prior to that.
I am satisfied with this loss. I really do hope the management realizes it's time to call it a day and prepare for the offseason. I won't write more on this. I am tired of their approach as is.
