This team isn't tanking without Lindholm. They are getting better.
There's some good looking dmen in the pipeline not named Seider or Edvinsson. If even one of them reaches top 4 potential, you dont need Lindholm. You will have a younger player at half the price without using any assets to get them.
If none of them work out, then in a couple of seasons, you can go out and acquire another Lindholm.
Why rush to get a player that you may not need and can get later anyway? I don't get it.

Yeah, Veleno looks really solid. Last night's goal was a gimme, but I've still liked his game over the last 5ish games or so. When he's battling, and skating hard, he's able to win and advance pucks into the offensive zone. That's huge for a 3C type guy. I doubt he'll ever be all that offensive, but that's what wingers are for. I would LOVE to see him with Berggren and Sodorblom next season.

Last season quickly made me realize too many games against the same few teams suuuccckkkkksss. 42 games vs 3-4 teams is too much I think. A home and home vs opposing conference is good. But the split between division and conference rivals needs to shrink some. 

The defense - everyone outside of Seider is utter garbage. They cannot handle a strong forecheck at all and routinely give up defensive zone turnovers. It's like they have no idea how to break the puck out of the zone once they obtain it. This leads to us getting hemmed in to our own zone for too much of the game. You'd think Blash would have a solution or change or remedy for this by now, he's been dealing with this same problem for 7 seasons. But it's just business as usual. When Babcock started losing D men and his blue line got weaker there was instantaneous action and change. He buttoned down the hatches everywhere and started playing the entire team in a more defensively oriented scheme to compensate for his crippled blue line. Fans griped about these changes and boring hockey, but it was probably exactly the right move given his circumstances. I have never seen any innovation like this from Blash for better or worse. He's just not a tactician in even the slightest regard. Like bro - you gotta try something new. Play trap hockey. Clog up the neutral zone. Do something.
I'd be knocking down Yzermans door to get somebody anybody off the waiver wire to help the defense. Give Oesterle a serious stint in the top4. Try Juolevi. Call up Sebrango. Just do. Leddy, Staal, DK are trash.
The goalies - thank God Blash had the brains to start Greiss last night. He's running a young goalie into the ground in Ned. It's beyond obvious but it took him 2 weeks plus to notice.
The forwards - dump and chase not working. How about drop passing? Drop passing not working. How about dump and chase? PP been a mess for years. What players has he developed in the last 7 years? Bertuzzi, the ultra confident individualist who marches to his own drum and could probably will himself to success anywhere? Raymond, the super high pick that was instantly an impact player? Svech, the dissapointment? Ras, the dissapointment? Zadina the dissapointment? Veleno, the dissapointment? AA, the dissapointment? Mantha, the dissapointment? 
Don't fire this guy tomorrow. Fire him now.

I still see potential in Zadina. I dont see any flaws in his game that cant be improved on thru hard work and experience. He may not ever achieve his full potential, but I am not ready to give up on 22 yo just yet.

It was destined to be Zegras the minute he assisted on that goal from behind the net. NHL fans/media love nothing more than flashy players. People talk about Quinn Hughes like he's one of the best defensemen on earth, because he's flashy, despite the fact that he's got 6 more points than Seider and is abysmal defensively.
Zegras will win because he's showy, but he's not the NHL's best rookie. Not by a mile.

The Calder conversation should begin and end with Seider. Anyone else just exposes it as a popularity contest.

Zadorov will hit free agency and our defense needs some extra punch on the defensive side. Hronek and Leddy don´t play hard enough, Staal is doing a lot of things right but lacks strength and agility, DK is not an NHL level player anymore, He´s almost as strong as wet toast, his decision making and passing is abysmal, it´s painful to watch him play. Lindström is solid in all aspects and not afraid to play the body. A guy like Zadorov would give the team more options and resistance against heavy teams like Dallas,Boston or Washington. We need to be harder to play against in our d-zone.

Citing +/- to evaluate a player loses all credibility imo. Seider was also -2 is he an elite POS? Zadina wasnt even the cause of either of those 2ga both were on Erne.
Im far from a Zadina apologist he hasnt been good enough plain and simple but hes far from the problem. Hes generating as much or more then anyone on the team but still needs to bury some of those chances.

I don't mind the guy, I just wouldn't make a point of targeting him in any trades with Edmonton because I think our LHD prospects are as good or better.
I'm super high on Shai Buium too. Another Yzerman pick that had me scratching my head. Now he's playing like a stud in the NCAA and I'm sold.
This is probably the right time to admit how wrong I was about promoting Kris Draper to Director of Amateur Scouting. I thought it was baseless nepotism but holy hell has our drafting improved in the last three years.

Two and a half months ago almost everyone was expecting a bottom 10 finish, some even a bottom 5 one. Now after more than a third of the season we still are an above .500 team. To be outclassed against a top team in the league with the little depth we have is not unexpected and not worrysome at all. They are riding the "wave of success" as long as it may go but I have the feeling SY never intended to do anything else than tanking, otherwise he would have tried to trade for upgrades.
The more I see of our defense, the more I see the need to go for Zadorov in the offseason. He would be an impact player on D not point wise but with his physicality. Up front Vrana´s return in about 6-7 weeks will be another impact player. That will only leave the 2C spot open.
