Trouba would be nicer, as he is right handed. Mantha + Ouellet would get it done.

Perfectly said. I totally agree. Would love to see Glendening-Helm-Abdelkader and Jurco-Athanasiou-Mantha as our bottom 6. That would put a lot of pressure on our opponents.

Im a little frustrated by the "dont want to see him on the 4th line" talk. Maltby had 50 goals in juniors. I LOVED watching him on our 4th line for 15 years. If Mantha was Connor McDavid or Steven Stamkos, he'd have been on the Wings first line from day 1. He's not. He's Anthony Mantha. If that means he's the most adept 4th line winger in the NHL, then so be it. I'm perfectly fine with having the best 10 spot forward in the league. Everyone needs to dial back the Mantha can only play top 6 minutes talk. We should all just be wanting to see him in the lineup. If you honestly like having Miller or Ott in instead of Mantha, then I am seriously wondering how you perceive what you watch.

Minor tweak with Mantha in for Ott, and you have our optimum line-up. Tinker with Abdelkader, AA, and Mantha if you want different looks for each line. But those are the 12 that need to be playing. Jurco can fill in for injuries.

We really need to focus on Drew Miller's development, though. I'm not watching this year until management ices the best team.

Any trade not involving one or more of Larkin, Athanasiou, Svechnikov, Mantha, DeKeyser, and Mrazek will NOT happen. I'd love to trade Howard, Kronwall, Ericsson, Nyquist, Zetterberg, Franzen, Miller, and Cleary for Trouba too, but it just isn't going to happen. Trouba is a projected 1st pairing guy. Not going to come cheap. Wings will need to move a real asset.

This team could compete if Mantha was in for Miller. Athanasiou-Glendening-Mantha could do some damage.

Vanek was so good in Buffalo. Looks like scenery and playing time make a big difference for him.

_________ - Larkin - Mantha Vanek - Nielsen - Jurco Tatar - Sheahan - Athanasiou Glendening - Helm - Abdelkader _________ - Dekeyser Russo - Smith Marchenko - Ouellet Mrazek Coreau This is our real problem. We are missing a Stankos/Kessel type right handed sniper on the first line, and we are missing a Subban/Weber/Doughty/Karlsson type 1A right handed defenseman on the first pairing. Our tradeable assets right now are Nyquist, Mantha, Svechnikov, and Larkin. Any talks of trades that dont involve at least one of these guys are futile. Ericsson, Kronwall, Zetterberg, Nyquist, Howard, Miller, and Ott all need to go. We have over 25 million tied up in these 7 guys, and they bring absolutely zero value to the rink now. This organization is in desperate need of new blood in its front office and in its players.

I agree with you 100%. I am not watching until Mantha and Athanasiou are in for Miller and Ott. Just a waste of time until then.

Exactly. The whole 4th line cost 2 million in 97-98. I bet thats about the same as the 4 million the 4th line is making in today's dollars. But the results are much different. Our 4th line presented problems for the opponent back then. Our 4th line presents opportunities for the opponent today.

This post just nails it. There is zero upside to Miller and Ott. Once that 4th line is playing against real NHLers, we will see it struggle mightily. Miller and Ott would not make the roster of any other NHL franchise. And they should not make the Red Wings roster either. Goal scoring is this team's problem. We lost one of our best to Russia. We lost 2 others to Waivers. And we sent the other one down to the minors. This is just absurd. http://nhl.nbcsports.com/2016/10/11/red-wings-fans-arent-happy-with-ken-holland/?ocid=Yahoo&partner=ya5nbcs&yptr=yahoo A lot of people are unhappy with Ken Holland.

1st time poster, so forgive me if I do this wrong. I have to reply to correct what is being overlooked here. In those 4 players, we have (2) 2nd rounders, a 3rd rounder, and a 4th rounder. That is hardly "nothing". I am sure all red wing fans would be happy if we were given (4) draft picks in the 2017 draft in those positions for free, right? We not only lose those draft picks, but all the time and effort in training/developing them for other teams. This isn't a no big deal sort of thing. It's one of the reasons this team is struggling at the moment. We are giving away roster spots to older and less productive players instead of letting our youth develop into those spots. Mantha in GR should be enough evidence of this mismanagement.
