Don't care if anyone throws out compliments or not...I think it's patently absurd to suggest that a UDFA that played 3rd pairing D for years on an elite team wasn't a good signing.  It's like bitching about winning a million in the lottery instead of 25.

Exactly...he makes the Wings or he goes to Finland for another year and then another crack at the Winged wheel pinata in the fall of 2018.  This does zero harm and gives us a chance to develop a LH D with some size.

Does this hurt the team somehow? No? Them don't get your panties is a twist. Either he surprises everyone and makes the team or he doesn't with no harm done. At least Holland is still trying after being turned down by the other guys.

I don't think anyone thought of late round picks like Jensen and Marchenko as being top tier guys...I think Jensen is a 2nd pair guy on a decent team based solely on his skating.  On a Cup team he's a 3rd pairing guy who can play with the second unit when injuries hit. Given his draft position..he's a steal.  Given his offensive instincts...I' love to see him on the wing for a bit
Sproul was the OHL dman of the year and Oullett is smart...his skating never developed much so that hamstrings him.  He's another bad team 2nd/ good team 3rd pairing guy who could have been more with better wheels.  Sproul has been slow to develop...but the potential is there. He's big, has a cannon for a shot (RH) and he can skate.  At 23 yrs old..he's at the crossroads.  the tools for a top pairing ...or at the very least a really good second pairing ..are there.

I've seen a fair amount of Vili...he's a top pairing guy potentially.  Sambrook is another guy who has a future.  Haven't seen enough of Hronek, Cholo or anyone else to say. I want to see how Holway develops in college.

Lets try to get this thread back on track, things seem to be getting quite personal at this point.
At the end of the day we need a top pairing D-man, and ideally a future #1 center. If we get those two things, I think it completely changes the look of our team.

Really easy?  Yeah...it's a picnic going against a team that can roll three good scoring lines out there. Your 230lb D and F's are going to love chasing after guys they can't keep up with for three periods.
We need top end C more than we need D.  I like our D prospects...guys like Hronek, Vili and Sambrook.  I'd keep an eye on Holway as well.   If the opportunity arises to come back into the 1st round to snaga guy like Hague..I'd be OK with that.   But I'd much rather go with a C with top six potential at 9

Rafalski is exactly who I was thinking of, and there's also Tory Krug in Boston, who would be the closest current comparable player I can think of.

Saarijarvi is the same height as Brian Rafalski...a player he's been compared to by broadcasters calling the OHL playoffs.  I've watched some of those games as well.  Saarijarvi is most definitely an NHL prospect

At 5-7 and 170lbs...Alex DeBrncat is small.  Martin Necas at 6-0 and 170 isn't small.  He's light and will need to add some quality weight. But an 18 year-old professional athlete ought to be able to do that with the right diet and training regimen. I think I'd prefer Mittlestadt (not likely to fall to us) or Glass..maybe even Suzuki, but Necas sounds like he fits the profile of what we need just fine

Skating seems to be his biggest issue. Here's a quote from Brock Otten:
"Raddysh is an excellent two-way defender. He doesn’t possess elite athleticism or size, which is likely why he has never been drafted. His skating has improved a lot over the course of his OHL career, to the point of it being average now. His straight line speed and acceleration will never be elite, but he’s worked hard to improve his overall mobility to make himself one of the better defenders in the OHL. His gap control and defensive awareness is excellent and he plays with a lot of moxy, be it battling in the corners or putting his body on the line to block a shot. Offensively, he has one of the best stretch passes in the entire OHL and has fantastic vision. His ability to start the breakout is a major asset, as he’s always got his head up, looking to get the puck to Erie’s high powered, skilled forwards. Again, he’s not a dynamic skater and isn’t the type to be a major factor leading a rush deep into offensive territory. Instead, he uses his passing skills, vision, and intelligence to carve apart gaps in the defense. He excels as a powerplay QB for this reason as well."
I watched a couple Erie games this year to watch Sambrook and both stood out in a positive way to me. One of the games I watched was a blowout where Darren scored a goal and added a couple assists and looked dominant in all three zones. His skating didn't appear to be that off to me. I'd definitely be okay with giving him a contract. Still disappointed we didn't draft his brother Taylor in last years draft though. Of course Yzerman snagged him late in the 2nd round...
EDIT: Beat me to it Nondescript...

Here's some info on him...sounds like his skating is an issue.  Teams want guys that can lug the puck and he sounds like he lacks a bit in that regard.

I've watched a lot of Missasauga and Erie in the playoffs.  I like both of them ...a lot.  Sambrook is mobile..he has decent size and nice shot from the point.  Vili is just...amazing..on skates.  Runs the PP well and he plays really smart positionally.
Vili is potentially a top pairing or elite 2nd pairing guy.  Sambrook is more a second pairing guy...but he could definitely run your 2nd unit PP someday.
Love to see us take a shot at Erie C Ivan Lodnia if he's there in the 2nd round...London's Rob Thomas would be a possibility there too.
