How has he hurt his value and chance to make the roster?

Uh because he played horribly on the world stage against competition that should have been easy for him. The Worlds were a setback for him.

  2. Edvinsson should have skipped the WJC altogether and focused on getting ready for training camp and the prospect tournament. There was literally no benefit to him going, and now he has actually hurt his value and chance to make the roster.

False statement.  Our forward prospect pool is so weak/underdeveloped/injured that Steve Yzerman needed to sign 3 UFAs to field an NHL caliber lineup.

    Where?  Cant find them.

SY signed 3 F because the F prospect pool is likely not yet ready for full time NHL top 6/middle 6 duties. That doesn't make those players a weak pool.

Also, those 3 F possess assets not yet present in the prospect pool.

David Perron: RH, gritty top 6 RW with veteran leadership. No one like that in the prospect pool.

Andrew Copp was brought in to fill the 2C position. The closest F prospects to the NHL are all wingers. Kasper is still a couple years away.

Dominik Kubalik wasnt signed because there aren't any prospects capable of 3rd line duties very soon. He was signed because he is a low risk reclamation project that could pay off big.

None of these signings really had anything to do with the quality of the prospect pool.

Are we watching the same team????

Lidstrom was stoic and quiet lead by example.

Seider is literally overflowing with charisma and outgoing in ur face personality.

These two are not at all similar.

Seider is not the "in your face" or "rah, rah, rah" type of leader. Their personalities may be different, but every Captain since SY has been more of a laid back, passive type leader.

Seider is similar to Larkin. Kind of goofy, even a little bit awkward off the ice from what I've seen. Almost a wholesome "Goody 2 Shoes" type. Nothing wrong with that. Just a different persona than what he does on the ice.

    Joking aside...

Hronek and Bertuzzi are two of the only men of culture on this team. Men with pushback. Replacing them on the stat sheet is maybe doable. Replacing them in the lockerroom isnt as easyily done.

Id like to see more Hroneks and Bertuzzis on this team. Not less. This isnt your fine wine 2008 Lidstrom gentemanly red wings anymore. This is Seider era. We dont play fancy finesse anymore. We jam square pegs into round holes and tell u to deal with it. This team is going to brute force its way back into the league with big talented fearless players like Seider, Kasper, Edvinsson, Bertuzzi, Soderblom, Mazur, and Cossa. And we will not care how much our oppents cry about it.

Seider is more of a Lidstrom type off the ice tho. I expect any leadership he provides to be way more passive.

Id say this is why Mackel and I have been calling for selling him since he landed in GR. There's so much wrong with him that theres no realistic way it can all be fixed in the frame needed.

Hes a car that showed up to the shop with a seized engine, extensive body damage, and a burned out interior. And the customer wants it road ready by next weekend. My advice: scrap it for parts and buy a new car. This project isnt worth yours or my time.

Theres just too much to fix with him for this ever to work out. SY should have sold him to the highest bidder the day he was hired.

if he can get to 40 points this season. I would consider that progress. as long as there is improvement. if he is stagnant or regresses, its time to move on.

What are you talking about? I don't remember Franz Nielsen's contract aging badly after he was signed long term at the age of 31.

I don't remember Nielsen ever putting up to 2 prior 95 point seasons, a 73 pt season at 31, or coming fresh off being a catalyst for a Stanley Cup victory prior to signing his contract either.

Kadri's contract will be fine for the first 2, maybe 3 years. After that, it will be awful.

Guess Edvinsson is going to GR afterall

it wouldn't be the end of the world. unless he is beating out one of Seider, Chiarot, Maatta, or Hronek to earn a spot in the top 4, I would rather see him play 20+ min a night with some PP and PK in GR vs. less than 15 min a night in Detroit.

Id bet its more of a personality issue.

I was a Walstud fan at the draft. I doubt his issues are technique or technical. He is SOUND in those departments. The defination of textbook technique goalie.

On the other hand i was really impressed by Cossas personality after being drafted. He is smart, charismatic, and confident. Shades of Seider.

SY made it apparent he was gunning for key players with strong character to be the bed rock of this new era. Id bet Cossas personality set him apart - whereas walnuts likely had the same boring stoic personality of every other blue collar swede.

I think ur right. I do remember SY saying something about the interview when he drafted him.

SY puts a lot of stock in the player interviews. He did it with Seider and Kasper too IIRC.

Knowing the relationship Yzerman has with Hakan Andersson and as much as he dives into the Swedish pool when he drafts, you'd have to think that he asked Hakan if Wallstedt should be the pick or should he go with Cossa. I am sure if Hakan had said Wallstedt, then we'd have Wallstedt. Everyone wants to trust Hakan with all these picks that he is in on, yet not trust passing on Wallstedt. You have to know that Hakan had his opinion on which Goalie to take. He obviously didn't push for Wallstedt or Yzerman would've drafted Wallstedt. I have a feeling both Yzerman and Hakan feel they drafted the right guy. 100% Hakan was asked if they should draft Wallstedt when they traded up.

I suspect that scouts saw something in Walmart's technique/style that they had concerns about. Cossa seemed like the bigger boom/bust pick at the time, and still does now.

Not sure if you all have seen this

SY is infuriatingly masterful at answering questions without giving anything away. He never lets anyone else control the conversation and he never allows an interviewer to get him with leading questions. He says everything in such a way that there is no "reading between the lines". That is a skill.

  12. Based on what has happened thus far, I don't see how anyone can objectively put Hughes or Zegras above Seider in a redraft. In a 10 year redraft, who knows? But it seems to me that Wheeler is still trying his best to minimize his complete wiff on Seider.

Sebrango could be the new Lashoff for this team.
