LadyRedWing reacted to toby91_ca in Decision for Backes hitting Nielson
To be honest, it looks like a totally non-eventful type hit....perhaps a little late, but nothing out of the ordinary. You have to watch the slow motion video to see there is head contact. Certainly wasn't an aggressive/vicious hits like some of the others we've seen in the past. So, I get the suspension in this day and age.....head shots are extremely dangerous...3 games makes sense.

Explains the suspension really well.
I think they got this one right.

He is suspended three games... per the score : backes suspended
was it enough of a suspension, or should it have been more games? some are saying that it should be way more than three because it was a :"headshot" what do you all think?
at the bottom of this paragraph on the score it says more to come..

I don’t know how the defense would even function without Green throughout a whole season. How are we going to insert Hronek/Cholo into the lineup with a train wreck like that and ask them to run the PP and push offense? #1 priority is trying to get these young players to hit their ceilings.

Looking at ES TOI.
Strange how much special teams time has declined over the years. Millennials.

Yeah I f***ed up some maths or something there lol
This is what I'm talking about with the defensiveness. I get that your threatened loud and clear, relax.
Yeah sorry I clearly had some wrong numbers, not sure what happened.

I dont get why you are so against signing Green, but want us to waste money on a guy like de Haan. Green is a very good offensive D-man, and I would love it if guys like Hronek and Cholowski were able to play with him.
As for the "below average" part. Please explain? I can't see how you can justify this one.
He currently ranks 36th in points for a D-man, and I believe he is top 30 if you look at PPG (taking out the guys who have not played alot of games). Each NHL team has 6 D-men playing each night which translates to 186 D-men. I get that points are not everything for a D-man, but how can you say a top 36/186 guy is "below average".

Yup, Suter leads all skaters with 27:00 TOI. Greens 22:16 is 51st in the league.

If every defenseman played equal minutes, they'd all have 20 min a night (assuming no OT). So, if he's eating "almost 20 min a night", he'd be below the average. The top guys used to log 30+ min a night, but I think that's come down a bit over the years as the speed of the game has increased.

4.5/2 would be my target. I don't like the 3 years, initially...we tend to "overterm" (<-is that even a word?) and that needs to change moving forward.

I would definitely take Green back. Love having him on the team and he'd help our younger defensemen as they transition to the NHL.
I think I read a while back when the trade deadline rumors first got started and he/his agent reiterated a desire to re-sign with the wings, they were saying something along the lines of Green knows that his next contract will be worth less at this point in his career. He seems like a very down to earth guy. I say offer him 4 mill / 3 years or 5 / 2 and go from there.

Bang on. He’s like a guy who’s remodeling his house, but gets screwed into paying too much for a used furnace that quits on him in a year or two just because someone said it would work for the next ten.

Being loyal to Zetterberg and Lidstrom is one thing, being loyal “overpaying and NTC” for tertiary players is another. He’s being loyal to the wrong players and hurting the team. This isn’t an uncapped league.

I'm not a Holland hater, but I also don't think he should be given a new contract as GM here. It is sad though, thinking that he could be going to another franchise. If he does, I wish him the best. Either way, it's time we see a new GM in Detroit.
