GDT WCQF Game 5 GDT: Red Wings 2 @ Ducks 3 (OT) - (ANA leads series 3-2)
Seraph replied to a topic in General
Ugh, this one didn't feel right from the start. We were out there blowing off major penalties and Howard was working way too hard. I got a ticket to game 6 hoping we could bring it home, but looks like we'll be playing with our backs to the walls. -
Which things from the past (not just Wings related) do you miss most?

Darren McCarty's bromance with Steve Yzerman. -
The crowd was amazing tonight!! What a magical place the Joe is. Keep up the good work guys.

The Joe sounds like they want a win! come on Wings! -
Howard is a stud. He's the reason we're even in the playoffs and will probably have to be the reason we advance, if we do. There is really no option to bench him. Teams lose games sometimes and that makes the starting goaltender's stats ugly.

I'm putting my chips on no suspension. The hit was worth 2 minutes in the box for leaving his feet a split second early. It was a hard shoulder on shoulder hit that immediately followed into the head. Nothing wrong with that. It looked terrible because the guy was blindsided. It's hockey. And what's with all this Shanny hate? Not cool.

injured Danny DeKeyser suffers broken thumb, out for playoffs
Seraph replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I was hoping to wake up and read they had overcalled the injury and he is fine. Bummer. This happens almost every time we play the Ducks. Even if we win the series, we're too banged up to make it much further. Hope whoever steps in can do a good job. Seriously, who knows how far along Helm is? I know they said they won't count on him getting back, but is there a chance even? -

I was happy to see a lot of you guys were more hopeful than me based on game 1. Here's to you being right. I think we need to change our approach to take this one. We need a better breakout out of our zone and higher quality shots from the slot, not just the perimeter. Get physical if you need to in order to get it done. Let's hope it's worth it to stay up all night this time! -
This is the correct answer.

GDT WCQF Game 1 GDT : Red Wings 1, at Ducks 3. (Anaheim leads, 1-0)
Seraph replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
This game wasn't even close. They outplayed us past the first period and we're lucky Howard gave us a sliver of chance. They managed to really expose the inexperience of our defence by stifiling us before we could exit the zone. They were aggressively forechecking with two players and we weren't good enough to overcome it with our stretch passes. And Selanne will forever be a Wing killer. I hate that guy. -
Of course not, otherwise we'd be putting up 18, 33, and 96 as well. There are other criteria, but one of them is coming from a successful era. According to precedent, none of the players in the rafters have won less than three cups with Detroit. Bringing home a couple more would put 13 and 40 into that category. And given the current lack of raw talent on our roster, those cups would have to be won on the backs of Datsyuk and Zetterberg. To accomplish this, they'd probably have to dedicate the rest of their careers to Detroit, which only helps their case. Then we can legitimately talk about retiring their numbers.
-
19 and 5 are the only two going to the rafters from this era. 91 is not going up. If 13 and 40 want to go up they are going to have to bring at least two or more cups home to solidify their legacies outside of all the talented players they played with early in their careers, including 91.

I was losing hope when we forgot how to win shootouts for a while there, but I think overall this team has come together nicely with this push for the playoffs. Let's keep the intensity up and see what happens.
-
Throw of and film it for us, Haha.

I'm learning a few things through all of this. Jimmy is something special. You can't deny it now. We've been hanging into games solely because of him. Without him, the season would have been flushed down the toilet a while ago. Second, Franzen is waking up, it seems. I was actually glad he was on our team this game. And lastly, we have absolutely no finishing touch. None.

We won if we were shooting for pads.
-
My thought exactly. Let's effing win some games, boys.

Concerned - we might not make it in to the playoffs

Gosh, this whole stressing out about a bunch of non-Detroit games thing is exhausting! -
We need this. Go wings!!!

This is nuts. My friend has been a LA Kings fan for the last 20+ years and I've watched him go through this down to the wire playoff race for years. Talk about role reversal. Now I understand it.
