Looks like a sweater you pick up for grandpa on your trip to Windsor.

Seriously man. Their original jerseys I could argue are one of the best ever, yet they continue to put out ugly crap. Is this how they sustain their market? Selling ugly jerseys to their loyal fan base?

I don't know about a goal song, but I'd always hoped to come up with a team song to sing during play European soccer style. Using the five clap chant for everything gets old sometimes.
-
Looks sweet. And take note the back clearly says "Howie," to all those participating in the "Jimmy" versus "Howie" chant debate.

Is this even a discussion? We're above the cap, looking to get under. I don't think signing Cleary is the next move.

Signed Wings sign Nyquist to 2-year, $1.9m deal ($950k/yr cap hit)
Seraph replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
This kid has that extra step when you see him with the puck. Once he works out some of the kinks he's going to be special, and we all know it. Great signing. Was waiting for this thread to pop up. Finally! -
If you need an indication that it's not happening, it's that 14 has been on other players' backs already. I am sure you can cite historical instances where that rule doesn't hold true, but you sure as hell know no one would have dared wear number 5 last season. If it's not obvious like that, it's not happening.

Come on people. If this was 1997 Stanley Cup ice-water, we'd all wash our brows with it and baptize our children in it. It's only lame because it's the Hawks.

Screw ESPN. When they do talk about hockey it's to bash on it. When they used to show games they also had very poor pre and post game coverage. After the Stanley Cup clinching games I remember them cutting out to some other dumb sport the second the cup was lifted by the captain. They simply didn't care about the sport and wanted to get on with the next program. It was a rough road to NBCSN via OLN and "Versus" but I am much happier that we are on our own network with the mainstream NBC name. At least there hockey is the premiere sport and they pay it respect with complete coverage. This is actually one of the things Bettman has done right in my opinion.

13 and 40 are contenders, but not there yet. 91 will not be retired. I got ridiculed for saying this in other threads, but we basically have to win 1 or 2 more cups on the backs of Datsyuk and Zetterberg before their numbers will be elligible to hang in the rafters. All the other names up there are much more decorated and have won at least 3 cups with the Red Wings. Datsyuk has won two, but he was not the backbone of the team with the first one. If they can bring a couple more cups to this organization then you can make an arguement.

Pretty sure we're all pulling for Helmer here. It's kind of scary how long he's been out of game shape. It'll definitely be a huge relief to see him blazing by at top speed again.
-
No thanks. Why would we go out and sign a 40 year old whose numbers are dropping off? We have the cap space to throw at player who is willing to make a career out of being a Red Wing for at least a significant amount of time. After that's set, you can start looking for locker room support and role players for a cup run. But as it is, we are missing a big piece of the puzzle. Alfredsson is not that piece.

Any team that is built to win or building to win will not obtain these players. The teams with cap space and money to burn will throw money at these players and effectively dilute the free agents across the league each year. We are now a drafting team and a hold onto our assets team.

Canucks trade Schneider to Devils for 9th overall pick

It's hard to feel bad for Luongo. He's locked into a monster contract that extends for like 10 more years. I'm sure the drama will subside and they will move on. -
I can't believe the size of this kid. He makes Draper looked like a kindergardener.

Carolina Hurricanes unveil new uniform design, "New Storm"
Seraph replied to Jedi's topic in General
Vancouver already lifted this scheme a while ago. I've said this for a long long time. The Canes should use their secondary logo as their main. That thing is sweet. It has potential to be even better if redesigned. The color scheme of the new jerseys is classic. It's good to see them turn away from the weirdo Coyotes border thing. This is way more classic hockey. -
There are indeed exceptions to what I said. I never said ALL the teams in the league are dead even or that there's a hard cap to three marquee players. What I was getting at is that on the whole the league is much closer than it used to be and those are couple general reasons that could explain it. Someone should calculate the distribution of points from 2003 and 2013 to see how much closer the teams are and settle it. Let's see what these two lockouts have done for us.
-
It's a trade off. Older but proven in lieu of young and unproven. Nothing wrong with that. Plus it makes the team better sooner if they get proven players. There is parity because because all the teams are all within a few points of each other at the end of the season. It used to be wildly different in the 90s. Plus, with the cap, each team can only sustain 2 maybe 3 marque players. That's why they are all spread out across the league.

It was cool to hear them notice how loud we were in the Joe this year. Hope the tradition keeps going. And why is Datsyuk giving off mad Borat vibes in this video? Haha. The guy cracks me up in interviews. I actually just watched this one and his comment is the best.
-
Honestly he is just frustrating to watch, but his contribution is worth his cap hit, especially if the cap rises during his contract. Free agency isn't exactly the talent hot bed it used to be. It's a seller's market and big name players go to the team that pays the most ridiculous contract. I doubt we could find anyone to use his cap hit better.

One period. Play hard for one period.
