The 10 Best Sports Illustrated Stanley Cup Playoff Covers
LidstromIsASuperhero replied to Jedi's topic in General
Nice. I dont know if it was a cover, but the pic of stevie holding up the cup in 97 all smiles and front tooth missing is my favorite. Some good ones on there though. -
Yeah, last thing this team needs is a primadonna.

Johan Franzen wants to 'have more fun'

How long until each is old enough that we see Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Franzen on thesame line? -

Is Rinne Getting Exposed?
LidstromIsASuperhero replied to Manny>Ozzie(by a long shot)'s topic in General
You are probably right, but I would like to point out that the reason Zetterberg takes those weak backhanders is to set up plays and second chance opportunities. The problem is, we had no one on that line to take advantage of it. -
An article I wrote about Hudler for Bleacher Report
LidstromIsASuperhero replied to a topic in General
I think when talking about hudler having grit, the effort is there but in all honesty he doesnt win most of his battles. I dont want semin either, but i think there hs to be someone better than hudler out there to fix this team's lack of grit. -
Nice work, i like it!

I want to see us sign a guy like jokinen to center the third line and move helm to the fourth. Cleary-jokinen-bertuzzi sounds awesome to me.

Johan Franzen wants to 'have more fun'
LidstromIsASuperhero replied to b.shanafan14's topic in General
To be honest, i think he might be right. One thing our offense seemed to lack against nashville was creativity. We tried the same narrow minded, "shoot and go to the net" strategy over and over again instead of trying to go east to west and set up some plays to get the goalie moving. I think if people enjoythings more, they will be less stressed, more apt to try new things, and ultimately more motivated to make them happen. -
That does look pretty cool. Not sure it can be done, but still.

Thanks matt! I spend wayyy too much time lurking around this forum...

Homer should be on there.

Sounds like Gauthier really didnt like him, like he was trying to get every penny back that he could from the massive contract.

these teams are exceeding beyond expectations ...

Edmonton definitely has history with gretzky etc., and eric staal scored 100 pts for carolina that year i think, but no one cared about that final either way. Personally, i hate it when a bottom seeded team makes it to the finals because if they got there it was usually because of a hot goalie or a team defense (trap). I also don't care about building markets of non traditional teams. Markets with more real fans who've followed their teams for years deserve a championship team more imho. -
Something different and useless to talk about
LidstromIsASuperhero replied to toby91_ca's topic in General
Im just irritated by how ridiculously huge this goalie is. If every goalie ends up being 6'5", they will HAVE to make the nets bigger because this is making for a dull game. -

Dan Cleary openly admits to being at 50%
LidstromIsASuperhero replied to NBCnothingbutcrosby's topic in General
Does anyoneknow exactly what is wrong with his knee and when it got that way? It's likely the recovery time on whatever surgery he needs would have kept him out the remainder of the season had he gotten it. That being said, and watching him play this second half, i really feel like the team would be better off with conner or mursak because our team really needs to be faster in order to deal with the preds. -
I say we run something like this: Franzen-Datsyuk-Bertuzzi Hudler-Zetterberg-Filpula Nyquist-Abdelkader-Cleary Holmstrom-Miller-Mursak Emmerton Then when Helm comes back put him on the third line and scratch Mursak, making the fourth line Holmstrom-Miller-Abdelkader

The Official NHL Suspension Thread
LidstromIsASuperhero replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
I saw the Shanaban last night when he talked about why he suspended Duncan Keith. He just like, slowly and deliberately stated the obvious. You'd think he could articulate on it a little. -
The biggest flaw I see with the way this team is playing right now is the lack of defensive zone pressure. You can't expect to get the puck while defending in your zone if you just play back on your heels and let them pass around you. Hustling back on the play and on the forecheck a bit more wouldn't hurt much either.

I agree that Smith has looked good for the most part. He seems to have good offensive instincts and plays a physical game with some snarl in it. However, I think he has to iron out a few flaws before he is really ready to take a large role with this team. He seems prone to defensive blunders, and he was directly responsible for Anze Koptiar's short-handed goal last night when he turned the puck over to him on a no-look pass. I also saw a pretty stupid defensive zone turnover and he seemed out of position at times, one time even going deep into the opposing zone and attempting another no look pass back to the point- where he should have been. That being said, he's got a lot of flashiness to his game and he looks like a stud. He reminds me of Kronwall.

I wasnt sold on howard either, but mccollum is barely ahl caliber right now. He really hasnt progressed.
