Helene St. James says Howard starts and Z and Pavel reunited

This is GREAT news if indeed he is in! Pav and Z together make a world of difference! Wonder who the other winger will be? How about Pulkkamania? Z - Pav - Pulk Nyquist - Weiss - Helm Tatar - Sheahan - Jurco Miller - Glenden - Ferrari ...I believe Helm will be up front, no matter, putting Pulk with Weiss/Gus, could be a good line too!

    Team next season?

I wouldn't mind Holland going after Paul Martin as a UFA instead of re-visiting the Phanuef deal. Weiss and Kindl will probably be traded anyway, but why pay the higher price of Phanuef? Especially the $7M, Martin would fit the bill nicely.

    Losing Streak affecting Babcock's Decision?

I am not saying Babs sucks, although I do question his line combos, but if the Wings end up dropping out of the playoffs this season, he has to move on, period. Cannot get rid of the entire team (although I can name about 5 we could do without!) so it would have to be the coach. If by a miracle, the Wings win out or go 2-1 to make the playoffs, I wouldn't care either way if he stayed or left. But, for sure, if we miss, see ya Babs!

% chance of making the playoffs

Just a quick look over to the West: I'd love to see LA miss the playoffs after winning the Cup last season, and I would love to see Winnipeg stay in. That city deserves it! But, honestly, more LA missing, I would be in Heaven if Minny and the twins dropped out of the playoffs. Yes, I do hold a grudge! They play Chicago, Nashville and St. Louis, could very well lose all three! LA plays EDM, CAL and SJS, could win all of those! Even if that happened, Winnipeg would have to go 2-1 to keep Minny out though, they have STL, COL, CGY..could be a tough road for them to stay in.

% chance of making the playoffs

Ugh, looks like Abby, Cole or Pav won't be in tonight.... Gut Check time...AGAIN! I'd honestly LOVE to see PIT not make it, but damn, I want OTT to lose tonight so it helps us clinch. So Detroit win tonight Regulation or OT...OTT regulation loss (PIT regulation win) means we're in. IF, that happens and (including tonight) the last three games for ALL teams end up like this: Detroit - 2-1 99pts Boston - 1-2 97pts Ottawa 2-1 97pts Pit - 1-2 97pts Pit OUT? Detroit 3rd? Boston has Washington, Florida, Tampa (predict 1-2) 97 pts. Ottawa has PIT, Rangers, Flyers (predict 1-2) 95 pts PIT has Ottawa, Islanders, Sabres (predict (2-1) 99 pts Detroit has CAR, MTL, CAR (predict 2-1) 99 pts So, that still puts DET in 3rd, with OTT missing, PIT 7th, Bos 8th...at this point I will take any combo of us 1-2 and Ott 2-1 honestly! Both 97 points, but us with the tie break! Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

With Sid not playing (I think he is still out) I can be ok with rooting or the pens..... BLURGHA!!! Oh, excuse me, couldn't hold the vomit back...but yes, it will be a necessary evil tonight...

    Redwings recall Ferraro

I just hope We beat Carolina and Pit (yes I am.....puke....rooting or Pit) beats Ottawa...then they can call up whomever they want, just make the dance! Or two wins and it won't matter... On topic... Good to see Ferraro being regarded as competent enough to come up, but damn, I was so excited about the Cole acquisition, damn injuries, always against us!!!

At this point I think OTT is content with getting the guaranteed 1 point and taking chances in the SO...God don't let them catch us! SO and I have to go! Not gonna know who won until later....oh well, fingers crossed, come on Toronto! (puke, did I just say that? I guess its ok given the situation!)

Who do you hope the Wings play in the 1st Round?

at this point, I think 100% of us just want to make it...it's getting worse every day. IF we do get in, I would take the Rags first choice. Price is just too good, and Tampa has had our number for years. I don't think we'd beat any of them, but the Rangers would be a better match up I think...again, I would take the Charleston Chiefs if it meant getting to the dance...

2-2 in Ott-Tor ...if Wings miss the playoffs, the team needs to dump all the dead weight. It's been the worst stretch since 89-90 and it's not like the team was battling to make the playoffs and came up short, they were tied for 1st overall just two months ago at one point, they've been playing like s*** since. I think I'd be a bit happier if they were out of the picture all year long, then just barely missed them, rather than whats happening right now... The D needs a shot of roids, there is no way Kindl, Quincey, Ericsson can be on this team next season (sadly they will.) It's really time for Holland to think about trading a 1st round pick and (even though I don't like it) one of his top prospects in order to get a legit #1 defender. I think he should trade for that guy, re-sign Zidz and even look for a UFA to make this D #1 in the NHL. If it means trading one of the prized defenders in GR, so be it. I also agree Pav and Z need to be on the same line. Sheahan is well talented enough to be a 2nd line center. Helm has been doing fine in the top 6, but he is excellent in the bottom 6. Do you want him to do fine or excellent? I know it worked for Abby, but this could be a fluke year for him. If not, then great, he can stay in the top 6. I think Jurco (if not traded) should also be a top 6 forward along with Pulk. Sure that is too many top 6 guys, but like I said, Helm and even Abby can really take control of the bottom 6. But honestly, for the first time in a while, there are just too many forwards that can playt in the top 6. Z, Pav, Tatar, Nyquist, Pulk, Jurco, Sheahan, Cole (if re-signed,) Abby, hell even Weiss (but I assume he will be traded to a team of his choice.) That is why I do believe the focus MUST, MUST be on the D. Q, K, E are ALL no better than a #4 guy (barely.) We need a #1 and a #3/#4. Big changes I know, but no longer does this team need "tweaks." It needs changes...

We now sit in the final wild card spot, only 3 points ahead of Ottawa... This team showed so much promise this season. But it looks like, in the end, they are still continuing their downward spiral since 2009... Can't figure it out, but if they fall out of the playoffs, it will be the end most of us saw coming as this team struggled the past 3 years to even make the playoffs, now it looks as if they will miss them. I am not even sure going 2-1 the last three will help, unless Ottawa cools down...

wasn't alive in the 60's and was only 10 in 1980, but I guess in future threads that'll still mean I was proven wrong because you told me I didn't "live" that era... Franzen...quickly, in the post you are referring to I said yay Franzen is signed, now lets get Hossa signed. But when Holland dunked around waiting on Hudler and let Hossa walk, I immediately was irate at the choice and was never proven wrong that Franzen was the wrong choice. The only way I was even glad he was signed is if Hossa signed as well, but after it came out that we couldn't, I was mad. I still don't like Jimmy, but I also realized that the problem runs deeper and that is when I aimed my guns at leadership. When goalies give up 3 goals on 6 shots there's a problem, but when goalies play lights out, and the team continues to suck around him, then the blame falls on the leaders to hold the players accountable. I was not proven wrong, that was just my realization. Pisswall...he barely hits anymore, so I called him pisswall. So what...nothing to prove wrong there since I was frustrated with him and for one or two posts I called him a name. I think we all can agree the team is struggling and it falls on the leaders to right the ship or miss the playoffs. That's their job, that's why they were chosen to be the leaders. Z, Pav and Kronner. Babcock as well.

I will just end our debate by saying I know very well pre 1997, and the injuries Yzerman suffered causing him to miss time. You don't know me, know what I do or do not know,or who I do or do not know...if you feel confident enough to PM me, I would be very happy for you to show me when and where I have been proven wrong over and over. Outside of the Cup wins. I prefer pre 1997 Red Wings hockey. Especially 90-96. Even though Fedorov was my favorite, I never called for Yzermans head, nor did I want him traded. I only change the subject when I see the thread spirally out of control like it started to. Unlike you and your 1300 posts, in my nearly 10,000 and 12 years here, I have learn when to cut off a debate before folks get suspended. I know real history, I lived it. Half of you only know pre 94 because of the internet. I lived 1985, 1990, Proberts cocaine arrest, Kocurs destroyed knuckles, drafting Joe Murphy over Jimmy Carson. I lived the live telecast of Jim Lites talking about Feds defecting at the Goodwill Games. So please entertain me by telling via PM how many people have proven me wrong, because you certainly haven't, the only thing you've proven is you have a different view of being a leader. So its over, if you feel necessary to continue PM me

I agree. I just feel it more of a leadership problem than a lack of skill problem, if that leadership issue is the coaching then that is fine, but there is a problem for sure!

You should know by now, I will not go away. That is what real fans do, they stick with their team no matter what. If I went away, then would that be something a fan would do? BTW, nothing invalid about anything I said in that post. Kronner should have had Q's head on a stick after the penalty and boneheaded play that caused this team to lose. I was just saying, is Chelios were still the leader on the D, Q would be hurting right now. You must lead everyday and expect the best out of your subordinates, especially guys that are making millions and millions of dollars. It's been said many times here how Kronwall is not a #1 defenseman, he is better suited as a #2, so now since I call him out on his lack of ass reaming on Q, that statement would be invalid? He is not a #1, so in that affect, he has failed at being a #1. If you cannot call out your players, then you fail as a leader. Leading 5 out of 9 games is not a good leader, you must lead everyday. if you guys have all the answers, then please enlighten us, what is wrong with the team then? If it's not goaltending, defense, leadership or coaching, please, give us the answer because something is wrong, they aren't falling from the playoffs for no reason.

...and if Pav comes back and carries this team into the playoffs, I will kiss his dangling Russian ass. Because that means he came in and inspired his team and probably kicked their lily assess in the locker room like they were named Perry. I simply questioned the team leadership and since he is a leader, he fell into that category. If his injury was more severe than I thought, them my bad, but if he is good enough to be day to day and a game time decision, then in huge important games like the last two, I think he should have "iced up" and been out there. But again, we have two different idea's of leadership, so no use in arguing over it anymore.

Name calling? Have you stooped to that? I know how the good ol days were. Yzerman missed games with a blown out disc in his neck, torn ACL, near career ending knee surgery. He never missed games because of a nagging injury. He played through it. But again, I am not questioning Pav's contributions to this team. Let's get back to discussing hockey, because name calling is treading on rough waters here. You have your perception of leadership and I have mine. That's it.
