Zach Werenski...I don't know why this deal isn't done. I trade for him now and give him $7M AAV. https://www.bardown.com/tortorella-didn-t-hold-back-while-discussing-the-possibility-of-werenski-missing-camp-at-all-1.1359793

    Kronwall Officially Announces Retirement

Nice vid, but how can they make an all time Kronwalling video with the Voracek hit? It was better than almost every one of these.

    Kronwall Officially Announces Retirement

as much as I complained about him, it's sad to see him go. But it's also a proud moment to be a Wings fan, because here is yet another player that has chosen to spend his entire career with "My Team." He didn't go chasing Cups at the end of his career, he chose to end where he started. Thank you Kronner for the great times, bad times and the times where some of us (me!) couldn't stop complaining about you! But that is how you knew that we loved you! Should we add #55 to the "next number to be retired" debate?

They had me until "...Rookie superstar Conor McDavid..." What makes everyone feel that Yzerman wants these players? He showed no interest (as far as we know) in Gusev, and JP seems like he has the same attitude. That being said, Svech and or Helm sounds good to me. Not sure I'd give up Ras for him though, if I'm trading Ras, it'll have to involve a top D. Just my 2 cents. Would any of you be interested in acquiring Josh Ho Sang? (if it got Nielen's contract out of here?)

    Eklund Rumor: Mantha for Ristolainen

Lafrienere will replace Mantha. I just hate to see him or AA go, but I can see both of them asking for $6M per year. maybe parting with one isn't a horrible idea?

Yzerman vs Fedorov. Which one was better?

Fedorov left for a 5 year $40M contract. Detroit's offer was 4 years $40M. You say less money, but it's the same money, but less per year. Fedorov wanted the 5 year deal that Detroit had on the table in December of that season, but Fedorov was switching agents and (if you believe the tabloids) was going through a divorce with Anna. He wanted to wait until all that was ironed out. When he was ready Detroit dropped the offer to 4 years. He wanted a couple of other things too....He wanted the extra year, but what he signed in Anaheim was 2 years guaranteed , with 3 years as an option to the player, Detroit would not do that. Also he wanted the 2 years because the CBA was expiring the next off season and Detroit would not give him the 2 year guarantee. Everyone always says, "he left for less money" "f*** him" "he turned down more here" etc.... fact is, he left for guarantee pay and another year on the contract. It was never about the amount of money Detroit had offered. If Detroit had offered the 5 year $40m the second time along with the language he wanted in there, then he would've possibly retired a Red Wing. That is the fault of Ken Holland. Or is it? Here is a small tidbit in to why he signed the offer sheet with Carolina. Apparently Larionov and Fetisov had said some things about him over the summer when he did not go with them to Russia with the Cup. Fedorov maintains that he was not asked and did not want to go and leave Vladdy behind in the hospital. So its possible he felt that he would not be welcome here anymore if those two rejected him on the team. Could have something to do with how things were in Russia, if you weren't accepted by the leaders, you weren't accepted by the team, and Fedorov obviously still looked to those two as his leaders because of their legendary status with Red Army. Here is a clip I found: https://www.apnews.com/4f9a6b43336f6ab798ea848dddeff298 Just like today, we don't always see what goes on behind the curtain. Maybe these comments played a role in him leaving in 2003 as well?

    New Assistant Coach, Adam Nightingale?

Can't say I've ever heard of him, but surely an out of the box move! https://mihockey.com/2019/08/adam-nightingale-promoted-to-assistant-coach-with-red-wings/

    New Assistant Coach, Adam Nightingale?

so, 3 of the 4 coaches are Michigan Native. Doug Houda drafted by and played for Red Wings. The local ties run deep in this organization.

Wings acquire Adam Erne from Tampa

Well, I trust the opinions of these guys. Sounds like a great deal for us. Plus, look, they have Zadina and Rasmussen in their projected lineup.
  15. So if one of those four make the team, will that make it that much better? Ok, so, if Zadina does blow everyone away and makes the club, what does it do? Moves Hirose down to the 3rd and De La Rose either down to the 4th or scratched. We know Blashill isn't going to scratch one of Abby/Helm/Glenny. So all it does is bump one of Pope/Kuffner/Smith (in my lineup mock) back to GR, which is fine because they are all waiver exempt. But adding Zadina to the 2nd or 3rd line does not make this team THAT much better. I want to see all kids, but we have too many forwards before injury. I'd much rather see a Zadina - Veleno - Rasmussen top line in GR playing 20+ minutes a game. I think Zadina's comments were a reference to whom he was playing with IN the AHL. Sure, he'd like to be here, but he'll have greater success with Veleno as his C rather than wherever he may slot here. Not unless he takes over top 3...plus better success in GR if he gets to play with those two instead of his mates from last season.

Wings acquire Adam Erne from Tampa

Yes, but now he can injure OTHER teams trade assets so playoff teams have no choice but to come calling for Green and Daley and Helm and Nielsen and Howard and..... Ok, ok, I will stop there.
  17. this is how I think it may work out. Disclaimer, unless Zadina just blows everyone away during camp that is. Zadina, Rasmussen, Veleno and Svech all go to GR. Our roster should look like this: Bertuzzi - Larkin - Mantha Hirose - Filppula - AA De La Rose - Nielsen - Erne Abby - Helm - Glenny Turgeon - (one of) Kuffner, Pope or MAYBE Smith to make up our 14 forwards. Having ALL four of those kids in GR for most the year will do wonders for their development and confidence. Plus it may help lead GR to a Calder Cup. Honestly, for a year that is supposed to be a throw away one, that is not too bad of a forward group. It's our D that is going to help us fail to make the playoffs. Which is fine, because some of you feel that this is our year to nab #1 OA. And that would be the official one giant leap for Red Wing Kind.

With the 14/7/2 format, we currently have room for 1 more FWD, IF you count giving Ras and Svech a spot. I feel it will be Hirose as well. I'd personally like to see Zadina and Veleno tear up the A and lead GR to a Calder Cup, if Ras and Svech get sent down, I believe we'll see Turgeon and Kuffner, unless Pope or Smith outplay him. Ehn is a possibility but he is waiver exempt, Turgeon is not. Not that they will be busting down the doors to claim him, but you hate to lose a nice, solid C for nothing. capfriendly.com has still not put the "waiver exempt" arrow next to Svech, and haven't answered any questions about his status. But if you guys say it was mentioned that he is exempt, then we'll go with that. If they all don't super impress at camp, it might be beneficial to have all four down there in GR and bring up Turgeon and another with Hirose. Especially if this is a blow-off season, why waste any of those 4 on a 4th line? Let them all lead GR to Calder Glory. Since the last post sent us to page 2, I will re-put this on page 2 so it doesn't get lost. Not a bad signing IMO. If he gets 20-30, it's a hell of a bargain!

Wings acquire Adam Erne from Tampa

All in due time, all in due time...they will be in the NHL soon enough. This is a blow-off year, it's been pretty evident. Next year, the kids will start taking over (especially on D) by making appearances throughout the season and then in two season's you'll have your wish 100% in the NHL for all three of them.

plus if he re-signs for 3 years, its another player that Yzerman can leave exposed to Seattle or trade to for expansion draft considerations.

Ya, its not like he is going to play a lot this year anyhow. It seems like every year recently he gets injured.
  23. This meas that the Yzerplan for 2019 isn't over. Svech to Carolina for a pick Helm to Edmonton for Puljujarvi AA, Berggren, 1st round to Columbus for Werenski. ( I know, I know, but until he signs I am holding out hope!)

Could be a favor to Tampa so they have one less RFA to sign over Point.

Ya, very interesting to see why this move was made. Not unless a deal is upcoming shipping out a couple of forwards...but how many times have we speculated that only to not have one done? Ras, Veleno and Zadina all to start GR? DLR still injured? Trade for Werenski coming? I guess we'll see what comes of this...
