2019 Offseason Rebuild Thread, Pt. 2 - What's the Yzerplan?
LeftWinger replied to Dabura's topic in General
If we have healthy Ericsson, Daley and Green all year, the D IS going to s*** the bed. The goaltending duo of Howard and Bernier have already fallen apart. That has to be the worst starting 2 G's in the NHL. I hope Pickard wins the job from Bernier and we waive him. Howard is nothing more than a bandaid starter. Hopefully one of our drafted kids shows up soon and Howard can back him up. We haven't replace Fershweiller yet, but there are still 2 Assts under Blashill, so I am not sure if we are replacing him. -
can't wait to see: Lafreniere - Larkin - Mantha Zadina - Veleno - AA realistically, though, Bertuzzi on the top line, but the rest all the same. There will be a 40 goal scorer and 100 point netter amongst them soon enough. Maybe more than one! I love AA and I love Mantha. It's silly to compare them, they are two different players. Mantha is more of the power forward type and AA a sniper. It's simple, they are both good, soon to be great, they are both what we need. They fill two roles. In a couple of season's, the better debate will be AA vs. Zadina. Could you imagine this team if Mantha, AA and Zadina were all 40 goal scorers and Larkin and Veleno were 100 pointers?

2019 Offseason Rebuild Thread, Pt. 2 - What's the Yzerplan?
LeftWinger replied to Dabura's topic in General
He is in his 5th contract season this year, in a "few years" he'll be signed somewhere else or un-signed. There are too many C's ahead of him now who are better fit to fill the 4th role. I am more inclined to believe Smith will make it before he does. But ya, having the likes of DLR on this team hurts his chances for sure. Now if Turgeon can switch from C to Wing, maybe he has a better shot, but the C-W-C debate is for another thread! -

To be fair, McCarron also signed a new contract this off season with Montreal. -
I honestly believe Seider starts in GR this season. Hronek is here and when the inevitble injuries to Ericsson, Daley and Green happen, Cholowski and Seider will be getting the callups, but remember, Seider can only play 9 games so we don't burn one of his years.

2019 Offseason Rebuild Thread, Pt. 2 - What's the Yzerplan?

Yes, I would like to see that. For this reason here. I am sure Turgeon would LOVE to be dealt to the MTL Organization, and McCarron the same here. When the players like Abby, Helm and disney.com are gone, I'd much rather see McCarron here in a 4th line role than Turgeon. For no other reason to see a local kid play for his hometown team. PLUS, you never know what could happen. Imagine the might behind a line with McCarron and Rasmussen? Big boys! -
Blossom? I wonder what Joey is up to? "Whoa!" Oh, and Jenna Van Oy? Whoa for sure! LOL!

I mean, he's outscored Matthews the last 2 seasons, last season by 21 points. I know he's played about 40 more games though, but Toronto gave Matthews all that money, now they're going to have to pay even more for Marner. $10.75M is a ton of money over 7 years, I'm thinking Marner's camp wants Matthews money if not more...and if we're going by points I guess he deserves it. Honestly I love it, I am SO not a fan of that franchise in the slightest bit.

Nah, you two are just having a conflict of opinions ATM, once the season starts and gets near December, the universe will be aligned back to normal.

This has been a heated debate at times here. My only input is, IF we are lucky to get #1 OA (which we won't be) we'd draft Alexis BECAUSE he is the BPA AND he is a winger. Moving forward, we will have Larkin and Veleno as our 1/2 C's. Even in 3 years Detroit will have plenty of bottom 6 C's to fill the roster. Rasmussen is a natural C as well. I think if Alexis was our pick, he'd stayed a LW and play on the top line with Larkin and Mantha. I mean, who would argue with this as a top 6 in 1-2 years? Lafreniere - Larkin - Mantha Zadina - Veleno - Athanasiou Hirose - Rasmussen - Bertuzzi ...we have plenty of players to make even a competitive 4th line. I didn't even include Svech in the top 6. My only issue is, in 4-5 years, that is going to be a Cap breaking lineup, so we'll probably be without a couple of those guys by then.

I can understand that, but what really doesn't make sense is they plat two different positions. I am wondering why Marner (a forward) would dictate what Werenski (a D) makes? Also, Toronto will need to utilize LTIR to even sign Marner, so that won't happen until the season starts, right? Is Columbus going to wait until then as well? I mean is everyone waiting for Marner? You have Werenski, Laine, Boeser, Tkachuk, Zacha and Point all of whom should have contracts by now. I get it, nobody wants to get screwed, or screw the other by taking a lessor contract, but whichever side is dragging their feet, it has to be pissing off the other side! Marner - Toronto has upwards of $13M in possible LTIR, should be no problem signing him when able. Werenski - Columbus $15M in cap space, should be done already Laine - Winnipeg $17M in cap space, both he and Conner should be done already. Tkachuk - Calgary, $7M in space, again, this should already be done, he isn't getting $7M AAV Zacha - New Jersey, $8M in space, see Tkachuk. This should be done Boeser - Vancouver, $5M in cap. This is the only team of the mentioned ones, that may have a cap issue. But is $5M the going rate for an RFA coming off an ELC? He did have a 56 and 55 point seasons the last two, so maybe it is. Point - Tampa has $9M in cap space, I can see him and Marner getting similar, but more than $9M? I guess maybe so, but wow! Lockout here we come!

I am not a fan of creating a hole to fill another, especially when it comes to acquiring a player already in his prime and nearing 30. I am perfectly fine with letting our "core" grow and learn to lose and win together, much like we did in the early 90's. The ONE exception I would make (which I've mentioned a few times) but I know he is not available, I would trade from our "core" to acquire Werenski, within reason of course. I honestly do not know why he hasn't sign yet. They have over $15M in cap space, he should've been sign weeks ago.

Yes, but I have a great way to surprise the fans with the announcement. Because we all know that when The Wings call a press conference, the reason it's called leaks out and nobody is surprised. So this is how Steve should do it: Cal the presser to announce Kronwall's retirement. Go through all the motions of the legit announcement and have the speech from both Steve and Nik, have the regular questions from the press, talk about his future, new position on the team, etc, etc...then after all that when Kornwall asks "are the anymore questions?" have him then end with "Again, I really enjoyed playing for this team my entire career, my family has enjoyed being here and we really love all the fans. I've played with some great players, some great leaders and some great Captains. Speaking of which, it is my honor to introduce your newest Captain of The Detroit Red Wings, Dylan Larkin!"

More like 2 months.

"f*** Me!" Of course Wayne did say that Fedorov was the best player he's ever seen play, so I am in agreement with his player assessment.

Steve isn't signing anyone else.I know we've could've done better than $1.75M, but Shatty 100% wants a Cup, not a rebuild team. Anybody of any quality is a pipedream until we're done rebuilding and are contending on a regular basis. Either way, I wish he'd ditch E and Daley, not for cap space but for my sanity. I'd rather watch a throw awsy season with younger players. hopefully those two are healthy scratches most of the year and we see some kids. -

I would LOVE for Yzerman to somehow cut ties with Ericsson and Daley and give 1-2 year deals to Gardiner and Shattenkirk. Maybe Green hits LTIR sooner rather than later and we'd only have to dump one of Ericsson or Daley. But I would not offer that much money. I'd be looking at $3M per each player, per year. I know it's the same amount of money (yours is 1 year, mine is 2) and we do have $10M in LTIR available. I guess if they took maybe 1 year $5M a piece, that would be fine for a prove it to the rest of the NHL, but honestly, BOTH of those players are better than what we have now, with Hronek being the exception. That is why I'd offer them 2 year deals. But I don't think either of them come calling. I am sure they's rather take a Prove It contract with a playoff team. But one day, we will be on player's lists and we'll forget that we've gotten snubbed by these players. I still am LMAO at Ryan Suter. He could have been our legit #1 guy in 2012 and still today. I think if we landed him way back then, our playoff streak may still be intact and we may have been a little more attractive to other UFA's and who knows where we could be now. -
As much as I love AA, I would offer AA, Berggren, 2020 1st (again, protected to 2021 in case its a lottery) If they wanted a D instead I would throw them Cholowski in place of AA. But he is not as established as AA in the NHL. I just figure they have a nice D setup already, they's probably want to attempt to replace the loss of Panarin. But in all honesty, I would also see if they accept Zadina, Berggren, 1st. Thats a lot of potential talent there, but Werenski would no doubt, hands down be our #1 guy. He would be a monstrous step in us returning to our Stanley Cup glory, even more so than Trouba or Krug. I am not saying he's on the market, I am just making off-season conversation.

Daley and Ericsson buyout details. Offer Shatty and Gardiner BOTH 2 years $3M. With these two buyout, we'd only have to dip a little into LTIR, plus you never know what if happening with Green so, signing these two will help for sure. Also, we will be sending ONE G to GR, so that will lift us back out of LTIR funds. We know this isn't happening, but it sure would generate some excitement around here. I give them a 2 year contract max. If they want a NTC to entice them some, I'd give them a full one through season 1, then have them make team lists for season 2. -

I'd be all for signing Shatty and Gardiner and cut ties with Ericsson and Daley. -
NHL Player, good prospect, 2020 (protected to 2021) 1st round pick for Werenski right now. Sign Werenski 8x8.
