They'll probably buyout Shatty and Smith. After the fact, I wouldn't mind giving Shatty a year contract, He, like most, went to NY and fizzled under the spotlight pressure, Trouba will do the same. Shatty here would be top 4, if not top 2 and probably benefit from not being under the spotlight so much. Kreider would be a nice little addition, but would we be on his 11 team list to where he won't accept a trade is the question there.

He maybe should've seeked advice from Suter before letting "the lady" tell him where to play. Is what it is though. He's got some money and happy woman.

    Seattle

Maybe Seattle Americans. Even if half or more than half the team aren't US born.
  5. I guess I am just gun shy. But I do believe (unless they take a 1 year hometown deal) both Marner and Point are getting $9M+. I trust Steve will do the right thing of course, and unlike Holland, he will not overpay for a player, so if he does acquire Point, I will trust he will pay what they are worth to him. I guess we have to start somewhere, and acquiring a potential 100 point player would be a huge step in the right rebuild direction. so, Zadina, Berggren, 2020 1st (Lottery protected to go to 2021) for Point?
  6. The only thing that makes me hesitate is he's only scored 90+ once, and that was on a team that totaled 62 wins and 128 points. Not saying he can't be a consistent 90+ point player, but his previous years were 66 and 40. I believe the team he played with had a ton to do with his 92 points. I feel that on most other teams he goes back down to 60-70 points, which, to me, lessens his trade value. But you're right, someone will pay up for him because of this one year (same with Marner,) I hope it's not Yzerman. I do not want to give up either of Zadina or Veleno OR our 2020 1st round pick, PLUS pay him $9M-$10M on the chance that he'll get 90-100 again playing with Larkin, AA and Mantha instead of Stamkos, Kucherov and Hedman. If it'll cost what you are saying, I'll pass.
  7. what about Rasmussen and a 2021 1st, maybe toss a Berggren in too?
  8. rumor, but we are hearing our name alot in the Point trade rumors. What would you give up?
  9. It's going to cost us when both Mantha and AA score 30 and net 50-60 points. But we'll have plenty of cap space to re-sign them. I agree, take care of you homegrown for sure. I hope neither gets traded, but if that #1 D becomes available, or maybe even a #1 RH'd sniper, I could see a deal being made.

    2020 Offseason Rebuild Thread

I admit, I am wearing the Yzerman glasses. IF Holland made these picks, I'd have popped a vein in my head! That being said, what I've seen of Seider thus far is nice. Could end up being a steal. The two little ball's of hate we got impress me as well. Pretty sure they will be NHL players sooner rather than never. The 2020-21 rebuild, consider that as of right now ( I know we have a lot of players to re-sign) we have $36M in cap space and up to $6M more if needed with Z on LTIR. That's $42M for re-signing the RFA's, promoting yoots and maybe making a splash in UFA. Can we just skip the 19-20 season?
  13. now that the frenzy has died, and the big money has pretty much been spent, if you could get Gardiner for $3M-ish, would you take him for 2-3 years?

I agree, but most won't. It's all opinion really. I happen to feel that in no world is Bertuzzi better than AA in the scoring role. Two different players. But I like them all and hope they don't trade any of them.

    2020 Offseason Rebuild Thread

If we're following along with what made us a dynasty before, I'll summarize: Draft well: Fedorov, Lidstrom, McCarty, Kozlov, Osgood, LaPointe, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, etc... Trade Well : Shanahan, Chelios, Hasek, Larionov... UFA's follow : Hull, Robitaille, Hatcher (yes, he was the best available at the time) CuJo, Hossa, Rafalski, etc... Yzerman is drafting well (we hope, we'll see) and soon enough, once his core are stars, he'll make "that trade" that puts us in to serious contention (like the Shanahan trade) and then when we start consistently winning and making the playoffs, UFA's will come. I have to remind myself, a lot, this exact thing.
  18. Yes, but remember, Ilitch and Karmanos pretty much hated each other for a long, LONG time prior to that. Which I think is the 100% reason Karmanos tried to poach Ilitch's prize center, and why Ilitch matched the offer as soon as Sergei signed it. That feud ran much deeper than Fedorov. Detroit has what it takes to trade for him... I wonder what it would take?

Yep, that is why I said "if she works in NY OR move to wherever she gets a job. He'll spend 3-4 years in NY while she finishes school, then he will move to wherever she gets a job....anywhere, but I bet it will not be in Michigan.

3-4 years sounds consistent with what his girl probably has left to go to school. Play in NY until she grads, re-sign in NY if she works there or then move to wherever she gets a job. She is running the show for sure.

and again, unless we are getting a slam dunk #1 D back, I am not trading either of them, especially for a #3/4 guy. Maybe its just me...

since we seem to already know how many goals everyone is going to score this season, (boy I sure remember when Nyquist scored 28 and 27 and he was "going to score 30-35" but followed it up with 17 then 12.) but if we already know, I am going to say AA will score more goals than Mantha. Mantha will score 35, AA will score 36.

Jim Devellano tells us so! Doesn't matter what I think, Larkn, AA and Mantha are our core up front. That could even be a top 5 #1 line in the NHL if they all played together. I am not trading AA or Mantha, especially for a player who is NOT a slam dunk #1 D. Trading either of these two for Ristoleinen would be a step back into the hole. But, IMO, and this is just my opinion, if a #1 D was available and they wanted either Mantha or AA, my first choice would be Mantha. But then again, we will see which one becomes a pissy holdout (if either (AA has already been a small issue)) and then my opinion may change. If AA pulls garbage, then he goes. I don't have any patience for RFA's that do that.

AA? No....... at most, Mantha is our 3rd best scorer behind Larkin and AA. The guy had a great WC, But can he translate that into the NHL. We'll see.
