2019 Offseason Rebuild Thread, Pt. 2 - What's the Yzerplan?
LeftWinger replied to Dabura's topic in General
Hmmmm, so Winnipeg has inquired about draft picks. Strange, seems a certain user on here seems to think they won't accept anything less that parts to win now. I'd give them the #6 for sure for Trouba. What guy? It's an article saying that Yzerman is indeed interested in Trouba and Winnipeg has inquired about our draft picks. We're gonna have two 1sts probably next year in a deeper draft. We can afford to deal our #6 for a true #1 defender, who will positively sign a long term deal here. It may even be a sign and trade. Get it done. -

You have to start somewhere. You need some big time vets, you cannot go with all kids or you'll be Edmonton. 30 years old is not past prime. We built a team with draft and vets, kept it for 10-20 years, we were doing our best when they were 25-35. You guys have to realize that in order to properly rebuild, you need to acquire talent just as much as you need to draft it. Not saying these two are the answer, but Suter would STILL be our 1A defender for the rest of his contract. You won't find a #1 guy for what his Cap hit is. Not even Trouba wil have a cap less than $8M. -

Changing gears for a moment, would you entertain a trade for Zucker and Suter out of Minny. Zucker has been on the block for a couple seasons and there have been rumblings out there about Minny could possibly trade Suter. He probably wouldn't waive to come here though. -

Once in awhile, I forget who I'm dealing with here. You're right CRL. Winnipeg will get the #1 pick from Jersey, McDavid from Edmonton and Mathews from Toronto in a 4 way trade. Look at the haul Karlsson at 27 brought! Man that was way overpayment! Ottawa fleeced them! It's time for a break. Thanks number9, for putting all on the right path. Not sure where we'd be without your insight. Larkin, AA and Zadina for Trouba. -

It's going to cost far less than you naysayers are thinking. Whomever trades for him. But he's not signing long term unless it's a serious TOP contender or it's Detroit. -

All are going to be surprised at how little it's gonna cost. Just have to go back to Erik Karlsson. -

Take a look at capfriendly Winnipeg page. Despite having a lot of cap, Laine is taking about $11M of it. They want to re-sign Myers, plus they have a good amount of players that are key guys that they need to re-sign. I'm sure they'd love to re-sign Trouba, but they want to underpay him and long term. He doesn't want to be a Jet long term. That's quite obvious. Winnipeg will be ready to move on from him if they cannot come to a long term deal. They better take what they can get, or they'll get less in a year, then nothing come July 2020. -

He is not going to sign a bridge deal. That day has come and gone. If he is not traded, he will go to arbitration AGAIN, get a 1 year deal AGAIN and leave as a UFA in 2020. Winnipeg must get something for him. No One is giving up significant pieces for a 1 year guy who wants to play closer to home. To me, that puts Yzerman in the driver's seat, he's getting him one way or another, Winnipeg best take the draft picks. -

Trading AA...No. Winnipeg is going to trade Trouba. They have to get some value, but they will accept what will seems like pennies on the dollar because he will walk in 2020 for free. If they are looking for a prospect(s) and a pick for Jacob, then Rasmussen (or less,) Saarijarvi and a 2nd should get it done. Kuffner just may be on Winnipeg's radar, you never know. They need ELC's that won't be looking for HUGE paydays for a few years. They want to re-sign Myers, they will have to pay Laine $10M-$12M AAV. Not to worry about trading the 2nd, they will get a pick back in the Callahan deal, and possibly be able to help Toronto out by absorbing a 1 year cap dump in exchange for a pick. Stevie might even be able to dump off a extra forward for a pick as well. Trouba is not a pending UFA, he is a pending RFA and if acquired by Detroit will immediately sign an 8 year extension for between $8M and $9M. And that opens up plenty of cap space for Tampa, Winnipeg and Toronto. Tampa to attempt to get Karlsson, and Toronto to be able to re-sign Marner and Winnipeg to easily re-sign Myers, Copp, Tanev and Laine, and possibly make a splash in July. It's a win for everyone involved. -

He'll be signed here for 1 season to put butts in the seats. All depends on money. Absorb all the cap you can in order to obtain tons of picks. I'd take Callahan and Marleau if it meant getting multiple picks at this draft. 2nds galore! (No 2nd for Tampa, so I'll take that 2020 1st.) Of course have to clear roster spots. -

Winnipeg can't ask for a player who is going to demand $6M in a year. They need to re-sign Myers and Laine will get Eichel money. They need a player or players on ELC's that, when due, will more than likely sign a nice bridge deal. Rasmussen, Saarjarvi, Lindstrom, etc... I'd gladly trade Ras, Lindstrom, pick for Trouba.... ....but now who do I trade to EDM for RNH? Mantha and AA will both get $5M-$6M next contract, and we can afford to pay them that, even with giving Trouba $8M, so no need to trade them. -

LeftWinger replied to Dabura's topic in General
You don't trade Mantha for RNH, you trade Rasmussen in a package. RNH allows AA to go back to wing, plus he'll be around longer than Nielsen, and doesn't hurt Veleno's spot. It all makes sense. We have plenty of Cap space this season, and we'll have even more next season when Callahan, Ercisson, Daley and Howard all drop. We can give BOTh mantha and AA $5.5M to $6M each if they want it. PLUS if Trouba makes UFA we can go after him. (unless we've already traded for him or another #1 D.) We are going to have nearly $30M available in the summer of 2020 as it stands right now. We have $23M today with Franzen and Z LTIR. We can absolutely acquire cap for picks, and if we are doing so, we should get handsomely paid. Tampa NEEDS cap space, they are a player away from a Cup win. They should be fine with dealing picks to get that Cup. Callahan makes perfect sense for the year. Tampa does not have a 2nd this draft, which is why I put the 2020 1st. Now if they want to make it a 2019 2nd, then toss in a top prospect, I'd listen. -
2019 Offseason Rebuild Thread, Pt. 2 - What's the Yzerplan?
LeftWinger replied to Dabura's topic in General
What's YOUR YzerPlan? Here is what I consider, conservatice, yet exciting to get us through next season when E, Daley and Howard fall off the books, giving us tons of cash to lock up AA, Bert and Mantha. With the $83M Cap and Z plus Franzen LTIR, we have Over $23M to spend. Here are the two trades I made: Not that I am eager to have RNH, but there seems to be a lot of rumblings out there. I do not trade to Holland Mantha, nor AA, I will give him his prize pick in Rasmussen, the #6 and if I need to throw in a Lindstrom of Saarijarvi, so be it, but I get RNH and the #8 pick. Callahan is a pure salary dump for Tampa, allowing them to pursue top UFA's in order to win a Cup. The 1st in 2020 is our incentive to take his salary. Here is the roster with up to $9.3M in cap left over. That much cap space is useless to have, but with the LTIR, I cannot see anyway of using it. Maybe we'll need it, maybe not. I give in to wanting to obtain Karlsson, he is just too hurt. I left off Datsyuk, but if we deal a forward for more picks, there would be room. Not that he is going to win us anything (doubt we even make the playoffs) but he puts butts in the seats and for this last season of potential lottery contention, that is very important. There is always the chance that Mike Green is on LTIR as well due to his virus issues, But for now: -

Lazy already? You forgot Oliwer Kaski. Ok, well, it's an agreed contract, will sign after worlds. -
But was it ok to draft for need in 2017? Rasmussen was NOT the best player available at that spot. Holland drafted him because he was looking for a PP/Net Front Player. He drafted him for need. Not arguing Zadina, but just saying...
