He'll regret leaving if he does, that's for sure

Perron will stay, Ghost will stay. Holl will be traded, Petry will be bought out. Opening up room for 2-3 kids and others via UFA. If Tampa gets swept, there is a good chance Stamkos is gone, maybe he'll come here.

Oh well. When Detroit finishes higher than whichever other team he chooses, and makes the playoffs, at least he'll have his memories.

Nah, Kane already said he'd like to play with better players and Debrincat said Kane wants to come back.

If they don't trade the 1st, I could see one of Jircek, Iginla, or Greentree. If they're still there a5 15 that is.

So we'll let Kane's PPG go, Ghost's 60 points go, replace them with rookies and then keep a defender that can't defend and makes too many mistakes.

spinning the tankathon wheel, and we either stay at 15 or end up at 5. #5 happened about 4 out of 15 tries. They have us taking Eiserman. Bold prediction 1, this will happen. easy prediction, Utah NHL Club will win the 1st overall.

You can if you dump others. Petry, Holl, Maatta, Chiarot. Any of these guys are expendable.
-
Plus, he says "recalls Johansson" at some point. Johansson isn't going to clear waivers if he's sent down from the start. Re-sign Ghost. How do you not? Unless the guy wants 6 or 7 million.

$1.5M next season

Well there was one thing that has been nice while The Wings weren't relevant. So, back to real conversation, with hearing that they are going to give Johansson a legit shot at Detroit, knowing Edvinsson is also going to be here, plus also knowing they'd like Ghost back, that makes a pretty jammed up defense. I'm sure Yzerman will explore upgrading the D as well. Although he didn't word for word, quote, verbatim, write in down on paper, or tell his team this at the press conference, I'm pretty positive he'll look at some options. Who goes? We know who we'd like to see go, but I wonder how Yzerman will actually thin this out. Seider, Walman, Johansson, Edvinsson, Chiarot, Petry, Maatta, Ghost, Holl, possible upgrade. Thats a whole lot of D for 7 or 8 rosters spots.

But those were his exact words. Also I wasn't pointing at you directly, I was just saying all the name calling back and forth was not necessary. Also, I always said "I think" and "I believe" or "IMO" I definitely never claimed to interpret his words as "a matter of fact." But he did say, exactly his choice will depend on where he fits on the team and who he plays with. He may have been referring to 32 teams, but I believe he was mostly talking about Detroit. You can still have Kane and get younger. You don't re-sign Sprong, Fischer, Reimer, and trade a D along with buying out Petry. If he replaces 2 of those players with Berggren and Johansson along with promoting Edvinsson full time, Detroit gets much younger. I'm not getting into arguments or name calling, that hasn't been me for a very long time. I'm just going to say, I believe and I hope he comes back. But mostly I hope that, in whatever way, the team gets upgraded.

No. I said if he got the term and Yzerman gave him a better picture of what the top 6 may look like, that I believe that he may have no issue returning. So, if Yzerman gives him a good picture of what he is trying to do to improve the team and they can agree on term that works for player and team, I honestly do believe he'll be back. Maybe Yzerman doesn't get his star players involved that way though....don't know, but it's no reason to soil 2 pages of this thread with slurs and pointless banter. Debrincat said "he picked us for a reason" Kane said some factors are "where he fits on the team and who he may play with." It's in the videos. Interpret that in your own way.

As a matter of fact, around the 2:20 mark of the exit interview, he is answering a question about moving forward and indeed he says "...how do I fit in with the team, who do I play with..." now, he may not be referring to just Drtroit and maybe looking how he fits in and who he'd play with on another team, but if you take the statement alone, he just may be talking about Detroit. If Yzerman gives him term and provides a better picture of what the top 6 is going to look like, I believe he'd have no issue returning.

Not necessarily. None of the team celebrated. A promise to improve the team in areas, some term, and he could be back. I hope he's back or we're in trouble. How do you replace a PPG guy? He can't be angry that Yzerman didn't make any moves at the TDL because he was one of the players saying how much they all love playing together and how they feel they can win with the guys they have. He did mention about who he's playing with. That's a coaching thing. I know you cannot let a player dictate the line mates, but he'll be top 6, maybe get him an upgrade at C if he's not gonna play with Larkin (I suggested Domi before) and keep them together. He seems to like Domi. If Yzerman can unload some cap ( a couple of Fabbri, Holl, Chiarot, Husso, for example) he could seriously upgrade his top 6 by reaching out to Domi and Bertuzzi. Could you imagine that top 6? Bertuzzi-Larkin-Raymond Kane-Domi-DeBrincat Those two lines would have it all. Playmaking, sniper, sandpaper. You'd have a solid bottom 6 anchored by Rasmussen, Compher, Copp (Perron if he returns) Still trade Berggren and a 1st for a serious D upgrade. Like him or not, Chychrun would be a big upgrade. Of course this all depends on clearing enough cap to sign and re-sign the players we need to sign. And maybe Ottawa retaining 50% of Chychrun. Because Domi/Bertuzzi would probably cost about $10-$11M combined, also knowing Seider/Raymond will probably cost $13-$16M combined. It could work if we dumped some of the salary mentioned above. If you could get another $12-$14M in cap avail via trades, it's doable. Fill in the final few spots with kids.
