Weiss played most of his minutes in the first period. He even got some early PP shifts playing point but as the game progressed he played less and less. I think he suffers from lost confidence, the puck will not really bounce his way. -

I like the new defense pairings. More ice time for Smith, who has outplayed Ericsson thus far plus Ericsson will be a steady partner to Kindl. Quincey probably had his best game as a Red Wing yesterday, he was terrific in his own end and even joined the rush a few times. -
Keeping the streak alive and hopefully watching Mantha debut is enough for me. Tank job? No thanks!

Boston get a third pick if the Islanders end up trading Boychuk within the conference.

Weiss was certainly no worse than most regulars during the preseason games that I saw and I got the same impression from others from the games I didnt see.

Scratching Weiss for Nestrasil doesnt make much sense to me, but overall I like the balanced lines.

Durability is great but that is about the only thing Miller brings imo. it was a legitimate question. No need to be so hostile.

Helm and Abdelkader are lightyears ahead of the others mentioned imo, but I suppose you would prefer 5 Semin's?

I would have to disagree. Brunner wasn't good enough to play top 6 and too one dimensional for bottom 6 duty. I think he is the prototypical 13th forward.

He is not creating as much as expected, but he has been playing with third and fourth liners all pre-season. -

The lack of offensive depth is hurting us as any one line but the top line is unable to establish offensive pressure. Andersson and Nosek arent good enough. This game could easily have ended 8-1. -

The team is pretty good when healthy in my opinion but there isnt much depth at the top 6 so injuries to key players will hit us hard. I expect a much better defensive effort this season as Smith will be more experienced and hopefully Babs will separate him and Quincey. Quincey played well when paired with someone else last year. Unfortuantely I doubt there will be less man games lost to injury this season. I hope a rebound year from Howard will help improve the record from last year.

I think you might be underestimating the skill level of Torres, Tootoo and Asham slightly. They put up much better totals in juniors than Callahan and had they stayed in the AHL they would probably been on the PP too. It is true that they have a limited role in the NHL but there is certainly more to it than the skill variable. When comparing Callahan to Maltby I was trying to convey his "weight class". I know you dont care much about that stuff but that was my intention.
