  1. Didn't make my target weight, but I can't complain too much. Basically, I had to cram a month worth of work into two weeks and the gym got cut out. Since you know, I'd rather sleep. Still, overall I've lost 30 pounds from when I was my heaviest. Still a ways to go, but I'm working on it.

  2. Lidstrom is an obvious lock.

If Fedorov stayed a Wing, or even comes back and retires as a Wing, he get his number in the rafters.

Osgood probably should, but I don't see it happening.

Everyone else that has been mentioned, Shanny, Draper, Chelios, Maltby, etc; ain't gonna happen.

  3. I would find it very funny if 4 out of 5 of Michigan's wins came against top 10 teams, yet their 8 losses would be against unranked opponents.

Which of Michigan's remaining games are you penciling in for wins?

I agree on the talent part. They should win that game every time no matter what. I also agree it's a worse lose then App State. I don't agree with the hot seat though. Bill Martin gave more then enough time (actually too much time) for Tommy Amaker, and was on Lloyd Carr's side even if they would have went 0-12.

Football at Michigan is different than basketball though. After Ed Martin and the Fab 5, all UM seems to want from a basketball coach is to keep the program clean and not have former players questioned by the FBI. Football is what brings in the big money from the alumni, not hoops. I'd bet dollars to donuts that Martin has been hearing from some donors already.

  4. IMO the pecking order in the B10...

    Penn State

    Ohio State

    Michigan

    Michigan State

    Wisconsin

    Northwestern

    Illinois

    Minnesota

    Indiana

    Purdue

    Iowa

    Care to revise those rankings?

MSU is bowl eligible in October and is 3-0 in the Big 10 :D I have a huge man crush on Mark Dantonio. He is exactly what this program needed.

  5. Oh, for the love of EVERYTHING.... IF YOU WANT TO TRADE FOR SOMEONE, YOU NEED TO TRADE SOMETHING FOR THAT SOMEONE. At the time, Bertuzzi was still capable of being quite the power forward. If he'd done better and helped us win the Cup, you wouldn't be asking this question. When measured against what the Sharks paid for Guerin, what the Predators paid for Forsberg and what the Thrashers paid for Tkachuk, we got Bertuzzi for nothing.

    Hindsight is 20/20.

Wait...you mean you can't get any player in the league for Lilja, Sammy, Hulder, and a pick? I was under the impression you could.

You can't win them all, the trade was a good idea at the time. Since we really have no idea how Matthias will turn out, its still too early to call it a bust.

  6. Ok, I know this might sound like blasphemy to many of you, but with all the talk about how s***ty Detroit is, and how the tax payers wouldn't be able to afford to build a new arena, what about the idea of moving the Red Wings to the suburbs, like the Pistons? Most of the fans that go to games come from the suburbs anyways, and I'm sure it would help us sell out the arena on a nightly basis again. Many people want nothing to do with the downtown area. I know I'd like to go to a game without getting hassled for money 3x during the span of a 1/4 mile walk. Just an idea I wanted to throw out there to see what the Red Wing's faithful thought.

Sure, I mean, Detroit is in bad enough shape as it is. Why not get rid of something that brings in millions of dollars to the city's economy?

Ilitch has invested far too much time and money into Detroit to move to the burbs. He might threaten to do so to get the city to help foot the bill, but I can't see it actually happening.

  7. Trust me, the Motor City Bowl would take a 6-6 Michigan team over even a 9-3 Northwestern team......The game would be a sellout, with NW they would be lucky to draw 30,000 people. Hell people would probably pay double for the tickets.

The MCB would love Michigan. But with the way the Big 10 is looking right now, 6-6 might not be enough, especially if the Big 10 only sends one team to the BCS.

  8. It's an uphill battle for UM.

I don't know much about Toledo, but apparently they have some crazy offense that puts up lots of points. I think Michigan gets the win, but its a tossup.

This will finally be the year that PSU beats UM. Mark this one as a loss.

MSU should be favored, but the game is at the big pit and MSU has been snakebit against UM 3 of the last 4 years. Between Stanton getting hurt in 04, no kicking game in 05, and reverting to JLS defense in 07, the Spartans find ways to ****** defeat from the jaws of victory. I'm going to say MSU gets the win, but it will be closer than people expect.

Purdue has a pretty lousy defense, I think UM wins here, even if it is on the road.

Minny is off to a good start but they really don't have any good wins. I'll give UM the win since its at home, but I won't be surprised to see a Gopher victory.

Northwestern. Another tossup game. I think this game will depend a lot on how the rest of NW's season goes. If the Wildcats come in on a hotstreak, they'll win. If they've been beat up, UM wins. I'll take UM in a close one.

OSU. The Vest continues his winning ways.

4 wins and 3 losses, that would put UM at 6-6. Motor City Bowl?

  9. It's really not an excuse either - it's the absolute truth.

It's Jabba's fourth season at ND. If I'm not mistaken, ND doesn't tend to redshirt players (I read this somewhere, I could be wrong). The team is his guys. But if you want to keep telling yourself its Ty's fault that Jabba has beat less ranked teams than Ty did, or that the biggest win under the Weis' regime is almost beating USC, feel free.

  10. My dad loves to talk about how poor a coach Lloyd Carr was. He was also very excited to get Rodriguez, although he would have preferred Les Miles (and blames not having Miles on Lloyd Carr). So I asked him why this year's team with Rich Rodriquez was doing so poorly. He said part of the problem was that it was Lloyd Carr's crappy players.

Yeah...because we never saw a Lloyd Carr team do well when it had Lloyd Carr's players.

Sounds like ND fans talking about Jabba and Ty. I wonder how long they'll be using that excuse.

  11. It's easy for us to say "lower the costs Illitch" when its not our money to be made.

Same with players signing contracts. It's amazing how easy it is to take a pay cut when it's not your money.

Hopefully they do something for opening night, and more promotions during the season.

  12. Good job by the Spartans today. It was an ugly win, but I'll take it.

Games like today are why I believe that Dantonio is the right man for MSU and why I have 100% faith in him. Under JLS, this game would have been a loss and it would have been Same Ole Spartans. They interviewed Izzo during the game and he talked about Dantonio wanting to stay at least 10 years. In my mind, like Izzo, Dantonio can stay as long as he wants.

  13. Tried something new today. Kona Brewing Co. Pipeline Porter. I generally don't drink a lot of porters and stouts because I think they're too heavy to drink in hot weather, and its always hot here. But, I bought the Pipeline Porter since I needed a dark beer for my chili and the store didn't have singles of either Sam Adams Black Lager or Shiner Black Lager. And, I like the other brews that Kona does so I figured what the hell. It's probably the smoothest beer I've had in a long time and has great flavor. I'd highly recommend it.

And it should be really good in my chili

  14. I'm so glad the Big 10 doesn't do Thursday night game. I absolutely hate them.

Actually, I shouldn't say I hate them. If the Big 10 did them, I would hate them. I only mildly dislike them right now because they interfere with The Office.

It is a beautiful sight to watch USC lose - getting destroyed is even better. As weak as the Pac-10 is this season, one loss may ruin USC's shot at a national championship.

Dollars to donuts says they still clean ND's clock this year ;)
