The good news is that his back is fine for everyday life, but when he pushes himself to train, it flares up.  He should be able to lead a normal life, which is the most important thing.  Thanks for the great memories Z!

He has. But he won't have the luxury of starting with an elite center (Stamkos) and an elite Dman (Hedman) here in Detroit (unless next spring's draft is somehow legendary).

I can understand the hard on that every Detroit fan has for Yzerman taking over as GM for the Wings, but when I look at it, I really don't know how good or bad this is going to be.  This could go very well for Detroit.  Yzerman makes some great moves for the Wings and they find themselves competing for a cup in the next 3-4 years.  On the flip side, he makes some bad deals and drafts some duds and then everyone is ready to lynch Yzerman by year three or four.  I remember seeing Yzerman play as a kid in the 80s and then leading the team to compete for a championship in the 90s, so I think I would give Yzerman quite a bit of rope when it comes to GMing.  The rest of Wings nation may be willing to give him a pass for the first couple years, but it wouldn't take many years of playoff emptiness before the fans would revolt against him.
Well, I hope that Yzerman and his family are going to be ok and that this isn't a family emergency.

Here is a good article on it.  For those of you who aren't living in Grand Rapids or follow the Griffins, Cleary's leadership was a big reason why the Griffins did well.  Bertuzzi's development was huge thanks to him as well.  Yea, I get it, some Wings fans are upset with Cleary or hate him.  Personally, I have no problems with him because he came to Grand Rapids and did what I expected him to do.  Be a leader, work with the kids, and help bring the Calder Cup back to Grand Rapids.

I agree with this.  I do think Bert and Svechnikov would both be best suited playing top line minutes in Grand Rapids instead of bottom 6 minutes in the NHL.  As for Frk, he really did very well for the Griffins, but I don't know if he is NHL material.  There is a reason why the Wings put him on waivers, Carolina picked him up, and then put him back on waivers for us to grab again.  We have to give him a shot, because if we don't, someone else will.  I just don't know.  He was a key piece to the Griffins this year though.  Oh, and I want another full season for Hicketts as well in the AHL.

Ironic, calling my post "over the top melodrama".
For the record, I didn't mean that to be offensive. More just trying to point out that you seemed to be ignoring or unaware of certain realities.
As for the false narrative; there is the persistent idea that young players don't get a fair chance here, always being held down by vets. Largely fueled by the perception that our kids are better than they really are and that our vets are worse, plus some confirmation bias, and a little exaggeration thrown in for good measure.
We currently have 3 open forward spots, and 3 (some might argue 4) forwards in GR that could feasibly contribute in the NHL. Our vets, regardless of how middling and overpaid you think they are, aren't blocking anything (unless you want to count Frk).
We average about 3 rookies per year seeing significant time. Assuming that continues (and why wouldn't it), we should assume that all our good kids will see significant time next year (and there will be new kids in GR that everyone will think are being held down). Just like not long ago when our overpaid middling players were themselves the kids everyone wanted. Circle of life.
When you say we need to change our culture and bring up Pittsburgh, it implies that you don't know (or are willfully ignoring) the actual facts. We had more games played by rookies this year than Pittsburgh. How exactly are they doing something we aren't (pertaining to promoting young players)?

Yeah, but his presence in the lockerroom is most likely why the Griffins won, let alone made it out of the 1st round.

That's true.  Ottawa is an underdog and Columbus and Washington had overrated goalies that can't perform in the playoffs.  Actually, Washington's entire team, minus a few exceptions, can't perform in the playoffs.
Great, then we'll have like four people left here.

Huh?  We certainly weren't watching the same game.  OTT had their chances, but PIT had far more chances throughout the game.  Anderson kept it close again.  A lot of experts thought game 6 was PIT's best game of the year....can't really agree or disagree as I haven't watched the majority of their games, but I know Crosby and Malkin dominated and when that happens they very, very rarely lose.  Anderson stole game 6 big time, which is always a possibility with a hot goalie.

There is no comparison to Crosby and Letang for sure.  Hell, Crosby is the best player in the league IMHO.
Agreed, its a very impressive run.  I am just hoping that the Preds can find a way to make it happen.  Another 8 seed making a cup finals run is pretty impressive.

Yeah, even if the Ducks managed to somehow squeak out the last two wins in the West with Bernier, he'd get lit up against the Pens. Nashville is the best, and now only, option.

Well, Illitch has put the future in Holland's hands, even after very questionable moves and putting the team in cap hell. Should have him on a short leash, but he doesn't seem like he'll be a very hands on owner after taking control of the team. Too worried about selling s***ty pizza I guess.

The Pens have had more scoring chances, but the Sens are hanging tough.  This is a instant classic for sure.

Penguin fans littering the ice.  What a bunch of morons.
