Sabres get Nathan Beaulieu for a third round pick in this years draft. Seen this on sportsnet.ca. This is a steal for Buffalo, Nathan is a first round draft pick and his numbers have continued to improve in the NHL. This trade makes no sense to me from Montreal's perspective.

Devils get Mirco Mueller and a 2017 fifth round pick and the sharks get a 2017 2nd round pick and 2017 fourth round pick acquired from Nashville. Seen this also on sportsnet.ca. Mueller is a former first round draft pick, he's only played 54 games for the sharks and his offensive numbers are low in the NHL and the AHL. I expect he will get more minutes in Jersey, we will have to see if he improves.

Because Petry has a NMC they would have had to decide between protecting Beaulieu and Emelin. Tough choice, but they still got fleeced in this trade.

It's hard to compare Elliot who played on a really good team in stlouis to Smith who played on a really bad team in Arizona. I think Smith could definitely be an improvement, if he plays like he's capable of.

Montreal wins this trade in the short term, but Tampa could easily still come out on top in the long term. Sergachyov and Drouin I think could easily turn out to be close to wash when it comes to helping their new teams. So the picks could end up being the difference of who wins this trade. If Tampa ends up keeping the 2nd round pick, they could win the trade long term.

NHL will not participate in 2018 Winter Olympics
Jaymister replied to Wing Across The Pond's topic in General
Ovechkin has said if the NHL skipped the Olympics that he would go anyway. I think he was referring to the games in Russia, but it will be interesting to see if he and some other players from the NHL decide to go. -
Yeah it was a fun night!
-
Went to my first live Wings game tonight! It was a pretty good game considering both teams are pretty much out of the playoff race.

Helm, Abby and Dekeyser to start ot?! Really and where was Mantha, hurt?
-
Eaves can actually score, 17 goals in 47 games this season, which works out to around 25-30 goals in a full season. Jurco has 15 goals in 154 NHL games which works out to 7.5 goals during a full season. Of course Jurco is a lot younger but he wasn't even a big scorer in junior 68 points in 48 games was his best season. I think you are greatly overestimating his ability, chances are he never plays above the third line on any team.
-
Sure anyone could, but why put a guy with limited talent on your first line?
-
Jurco doesn't have the talent to play on any top line in the NHL. He can't even get a regular spot on our fourth line.
-
Is it just me or does AA fall down a lot?! I like the kid but common stay on your feet!

I watched part of three games of the first day of the tournament. Finland doesn't have the talent level they had the last tournament. The US is hard to tell as the played an inferior Latvia team. Canada looks strong, although goaltending could be their Achilles heal again this year. Sweden and Russia are the other medal contenders.

Datsyuk left for two reasons that I can tell. Number one to be close to his daughter. Number two Detroit becoming less competitive over the last 4 years. To ensenuate that he left because Holland wouldn't promote Mantha seems kinda far fetched. I think Datsyuk understands that Detroit likes to overripen their prospects.
-
I thought this thread was about Mantha, not Datsyuk. Mantha has impressed me with his play. He makes good passes, has a good shot and seems to have a knack for going to the net.
-
Nice shot by Domi. Interesting that the Coyotes are 11 games in and Domi has 0 goals and Duclair has 1.
-
Ericsson is a pylon. He can't skate at the NHL level. Holland should have gotten rid of him a while ago.
-
Carolina put Frk on waivers today. So that means both him and pulk have been unable to stick with their new teams.

Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread
Jaymister replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I would like to see Sproul, Oullete,AA and Mantha in the opening night lineup. Give them a chance, see if they're ready. -
Canada is the team to beat obviously, but they've won the last two major tournaments so I'm thinking another team might pull off an upset this time around. Team Sweden will have a good team up and down their lineup. Team North America will be fun to watch, lots of speed for sure. Russia has lots of scoring, but not great defense. Finland and the Czechs will have a tough time competing in this tournament I think, but are still talented enough to pull off a one game upset. Team Europe is an interesting team, they definitely have some top end talent up and down their lineup. The question with team Europe and North America is will players from other countries be able to get along and pull together as a cohesive unit. USA I think will be very competitive, maybe another World Cup championship in their future? We will see, should be very interesting!
