    This.
Too many dum dums want Edvinsson paired with Seider. In reality, you want one of those two guys on the ice for 50 mins a game. You let them lead their own pair. You only put them together in a pinch when the game is on the line and you need a tying goal or some s***.

Exactly what ive been saying! Lalonde might not be as dumb as the last guy after all...
Finding a partner for Seider was never about getting the most talented Dman. It was about getting a Dman that compliments Seider so Seider can take his game to the next level. Dum dums like @Akakabuto dont understand this very basic concept.
Mo is like Datsyuk or Zetterberg. He's going to be touching the puck almost every play and controling the pace of the game. He needs a partner who does his job well and stays the hell out of his way. Exactly the same reason why Holmstrom was the best partner for Dats/Z. "Im just gonna stand over here and get really good at tipping pucks so you guys have more room to do your stud moves". Homer was terrible at a lot of aspects of the game, but he complimented our stars perfectly.
What does Seider need in a partner?
    >a vet mentor
    >a guy who can stand in and be tough when Seider wrecks someones shop
    >a guy who can help in the D zone and stay the hell outta the way in the Ozone
    >a guy who can keep up with heavy top line minutes
Chiarot checks literally all of those boxes perfectly.
Leafs and Jets fans are still whining about having to play against the Chiarot-Weber combo in the 2021 playoffs. Seider is basically a younger better version of Weber. This is going to be a top5 D pairing in the league.

Let's say we stay relatively healthy this year and most of our players have UP years, as we are sort of expecting with this new roster. What do our goal totals look like?
Larkin - 30 goals Bertuzzi - 30 goals Raymond - 30 goals Vrana - 30 goals Perron - 30 goals Copp - 20 goals Kubalik - 20 goals Fabbri - 20 goals Rasmussen - 15 goals  Suter - 15 goals Zadina - 10 goals Erne - 10 goals Veleno - 10 goals Sundqvist - 10 goals Seider - 10 goals Chiarot - 5 goals Hronek - 5 goals Oesterle - 5 goals Smith - 5 goals Lindstrom - 0 goals Maata - 0 goals Total: 310 goals I don't think those figures are very ambitious at all for those players. But 310 goals for would put us in 3rd place in the entire league for goals for last year... behind only Florida and Toronto.
Now injuries will happen, and some players will disappoint. Like maybe Seider only scores x5. And Kubalik only x15. And Perron is hurt half the year. But I also think we have some player who could seriously surpass this figures too. Like Vrana goes out and pots x35. Bertuzzi x40. Zadina turns it on and gets x15 or x20. Veleno and Ras too.
I don't think we're a 4 line cup team yet, but this is definitely a deep 3 line team with a ? defense and upgraded goaltending. If Maata and Chiarot prove to be good upgrades (and maybe Eddog makes the team) we could be seriously dangerous when healthy. I have a feeling that even if Chia and Maata are lackluster, Seider is going to go POWER LEVEL OVER 9000 YOU HAVENT EVEN SEEN MY FINAL FORM mode and will carry the defense on his massive shoulders.
Lalonde has no excuses. I expect competitive hockey every ******* night DEREK.

This is the entire story right here.
SY is writing the book on how much more effective it is to develop young players in mens leagues overseas.
Tangent: I really do think we are living in the best timeline right now. I dont think we should look back and say "Illitch should have handed the team to SY in 2011". Best thing that ever could have happened was Holland ramming this team into the rocks for 10 years while SY cut his teeth else where. Now to return and recieve a blank slate and unlimited mandate with a refined agenda. I think we are witnessing SYs best work. His magnum opus. Hes building us a dream team. Turn of the century Wings round 2 Yzerman boogaloo.

Zadina, in particular, was given all the ice time a guy could ever want last season. Lots of games in the top six. Played with Larkin, Bert, Fabbri, Raymond, Vrana, Suter. Power play time. Favorable zone starts. His issue isn't lack of opportunity. His issue is that he blows. He's Mikael Samuelsson 2.0.
I'm not trying to air you out or anything, I've just noticed this narrative emerging that Zadina needs more opportunity to succeed. But he's had the opportunity and has been routinely outplayed by guys with the same chances (or less). This year he'll probably start on the 3rd line with Suter and Kubalik against inferior competition and given 2nd powerplay duties. If he fails to make an impact I presume he'll be traded/not qualified.

What are you talking about? I don't remember Franz Nielsen's contract aging badly after he was signed long term at the age of 31.

I'd agree with some of this. But you're misrepresenting some things too. He was awesome to start and end last season. He had 5 shutouts and a 1.9 GAA in 19 playoff games? He just sucked during the middle of the season. He didn't play in any tournament games during the  WJC in December. Also, there was no development camp last year. It was canceled as a result of the pandemic for two years.
But all in all I think most reasonable fans agree that his performance isn't what we had hoped for when he was drafted, and given that there was another premium goalie available there will always be a bit of buyer's remorse if Wallstedt turns out better. I'm still not overly concerned until he starts getting lit up after having a year or two of pro-hockey coaching. I think he needs some mechanical tweaking to his game, but otherwise I still think he'll be fine. The next two years will be good for him. Hopefully it will give him a chance to work on his game without the pressure of having to go out and be "the man" every single night.

I still think it's cute ken Holland thought Mike Smith can get the job done.
Aso, draisaitl outscored 9-1 in the playoffs when not playing with McDavid. Maybe ppl can stop pretending he is the better player now.
