The Wings started off a little tentative as both teams were feeling each other out but after a few minutes the Wings took over and after a couple good chances in the first for the Sharks the Wings suffocated them. Conklin didn't have a lot of work and the Wings were extremely disciplined in not taking penalties and the way they controlled the game. There was maybe one bad giveaway but other than that they were playing the type of hockey that won them the cup. Full effort by everyone and it's a testament to the way the coaching staff got the Wings prepared.

General manager Ken Holland said they have two options: If they determine Thursday that Osgood's injury isn't that serious, he'll continue backing up Conklin until he's fully healed. If it appears Osgood's injury is more than just a day-to-day thing -- Holland said most groin injuries take at least three weeks to heal -- they'll place him on long-term injured reserve, meaning he'll sit out at least 10 games or 24 days. Interesting...

It's not a gimmick, there's plenty of NHL fans in Europe and I think it's a good idea to give them a game or two to see their idols live.

Wings got the talent, but what about the coaching?
Heaton replied to FourtyThirteen's topic in General
Because if the Wings aren't dominating all of the best teams in December it obviously spells a 1st round knockout. Just like last year when we didn't have the secondary scoring or "toughness" for a long playoff grind. -
Hockey smarts, skill, skating ability.

Quincey almost has as many ES points as Lilja!

And sometimes when teams play great defense throughout the season they come up short in the playoffs. Just sayin'.

Having been on the ice for more PP goals than Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Hossa isn't meaningless.

They sort've put up with it. Glen Sather called him a detriment as soon as negotiations took place. The Rangers probably pitched an offer but he wore out his welcome there too.

I'm not sure where I stand on the suspension but where would it end? First he calls someones girlfriend sloppy seconds, what's next callins someones wife a *****? Why bring significant others into the conversation? It's worthless and not needed. I'm glad a precedent was set and it seems like the Dallas Stars are as well. They hate him and he's already become a detriment only 20 games into the season. He'll get waived or bought out by next year I'm sure. What a horrible teammate. Especially from a guy who's not that good of a hockey player to begin with.

Your message loses it's relevance when you're calling people hypocrites who never made those excuses. I hope you realize that it'll be hypocritical if you don't give the Wings the same consideration. You can't absolve one without absolving the other.
-
How do you know that?
-
They're also very subjective.
-
So basically, you're going to overcompensate for some fans who aren't completely objective by nitpicking one of the Wings best performances but if the Wings happen to lose their next end of a back to back you'll overcompensate the other way? What's the point? From my vantage point, Ducks fans wouldn't be downplaying a Ducks win over a tired Wings team so I'm not going to downplay a Wings win over a tired Ducks team. Doesn't seem hypocritical to me.
-
I look forward to you giving the Wings a pass on their next end of a back to back.

The Wings dominated. They controlled the play the entire game and had the puck in the Anaheim zone at least 70% of the game. The Ducks were tired but I don't think the Sharks or Ducks were crying for us when we played them in their barn on the road trip.

Not sure about the Vancouver game, we dominated for the majority and had the same mental lapses. They had 9 shots through 2 periods.

With so much talent, little wonder the Wings have dismissed talk of the clichéd Stanley Cup hangover. They're 14-2-4. They're averaging 3.75 goals a game. They've had some defensive lapses, but entering tonight's game against Montreal, the Wings have allowed only 23 goals while going 7-0-2 in November, and seven of those were in a game against Pittsburgh. Stolen from someone on another board. So we've given up 26 goals in 10 games in November. Not great by any means but not terrible.

Well you've sure twisted it and distorted your reality to see what you want to see. I think I'll take the winning and stuff and you can take the moral victories. Win-win. Anyway, have fun, I'm off the merry-go-round that comes whenever the words "McCarty" "Downey" "Fighting" or "Enforcer" start it up again.

They also need energy, which is why Helm is up for one or two games. I'm actually really curious now, were you serious about selling all of your Wings tickets after McCarty was sent down and before an explanation was given? Sounds like a really weird knee-jerk reaction even for a fight fan. I mean, it's painfully obvious that McCarty will be with the team for the rest of the season for the most part so I don't see why you jumped off the bridge so quickly.
-
I actually reiterated what Bruce MacLeod just said on a different board.

Man, some of your guys faces are going to be so red when McCarty is back on the bench this weekend. Yikes!
