Aaaaaand Edvinsson goes it alone and wins the game for GR in overtime. Hell of a solo effort to win the goalie duel. Wallstedt looked good and was the only reason that game was close.

I definitely want him up. Might not be this season, which is OK. Land a Rasmus Andersson, move a dman or two, give Edvinsson a full-time job next season straight out of the gate.

Sounds like the asking price on all the Dmen is a 1st rounder. Even for guys like Walker and Tanev. No wonder SY is listening on his Dmen.

Don't sleep on Johansson. He's really good. I watched him a year ago in GR, and even then came away thinking "that kid can do everything". He's also kinda mean, which I like. But for that reason I think he's likely to be part of trade packages at some point. We don't need any LHD and teams are going to want him. Very solid player though. Reminds me of a Dmitry Orlov or Nick Leddy type of guy.

I genuinely think that the hockey media has owned the narrative forever, and they don't know s***, and that's why nobody knows how to make sense of teams like the Wings. I was listening to a podcast the other day and Max Bultman (and other people from the Athletic) were debating something and Max offhandedly mentioned that maybe having a McDavid type player is actually bad for team building and those other dorks couldn't scoff hard enough. Like, how DARE he impune the notion that superstars aren't all they're cracked up to be. The entire calculus for hockey media is "You've got stars and you shoot alot, ipso facto you're a contender". Except  there are tons of examples of that not working. Worse, there are almost zero counter narratives in media. I give Jared Keeso a lot of credit for this. He's the only guy talking about hockey who dares say something like "maybe giving a s*** and not being a p*ssy matters more than being pretty". There are several episodes of "Shoresy" devoted to it. But his show is "fiction" so nobody runs with it.
I'd give anything to see hockey media address a few of these questions:
If star power matters so much why do even the most legendary players (think Lidstrom) only win a few times in their careers? If statistical modeling can only tell us what we already know (Colorado is good) but not what we don't know (Vancouver is GOING to be better than you think) what value does it really have? If players matter so much why does a team like Vancouver go from terrible to exceptional from year to year with almost no change in personnel? If puck possesson matters so much why do GMs and coaches not just load up their teams with the best possession players they can get? If the draft lottery is such a game changer why haven't Edmonton and Toronto even won a conference title? Why doesn't Buffalo suck? Why is New Jersey regressing as they put more lottery picks into their lineups. IMO these are all super interesting questions that I'd love to read articles about, but nobody working in the hockey media will even ask the questions. Instead we get "Who's the most stylish Maple Leaf".

How is it that half the league qualifies for the playoffs...but qualifying for the playoffs is this tough a grind? I mean honestly now. Who's the manager? I want to speak to the manager. I want to file a complaint. I'm not paying for this meal. The service was terrible. We've been on an unholy heater since January 1st and we could easily go to bed on Sunday night with 70 points in the bank...and I still won't feel comfortable. And the soup was tepid.

Yeah, I noticed that about the power rankings. Not surprising, but it's so stupid.
I'm not expecting the media to ride our bandwagon. The nerds can't show us too much love because a "bad team" winning means their whole shots- and chances-based value system isn't all it's cracked up to be. And the traditional dinosaur media can't show us too much love because, well, they've hated us for decades.

Andersson got hit by a car in Detroit while riding a scooter last year. Pass.

Don't get me wrong, I completely understand the appeal. He's a great player. I watch a lot of Calgary hockey dating back to last season so I've seen Andersson play a ton. He's really good. I think we'd have to part with a ton to get him, but given that he's under contract he'd be worth a lot too.

You trade for Andersson to bolster the d this season but more importantly going forward. Imagine a top 4 of Walman-Seider / Edvinsson-Andersson next season. Chiarot/Maatta-Holl/Petry as 3 pair with Johansson/Wallinder/ASP all knocking on the door. 

Andersson is a stud. He's also a righty, which I think we need more than we need help on the left side. Stylistically he plays a lot like Chiarot tho. He's more offensive minded then you'd think by looking at him. Not sure how those two would fit together. But that would be a good problem to have I suppose. Or just put him with Maata and leave Chia and Petry together as a third pair.

My hope for Andesson has been mentioned more than enough. If he is acquirable, this is the guy that makes the most sense. Again real quick, 2 more years on his contract at a great price. Hanifin would not only cost more to acquire (bidding war,) he's gonna hit pay dirt in July and would be too expensive. Chychrun, while younger, and he does still has another year left, will probably be more costly to acquire as well, especially being inner divisional. If I'm choosing immediate help in the top 4, and also moving forward, it's Andersson. Especially if I'm giving up Berggren. 

I grew up watching Wings games with my grandpa and think about him often on nights like tonight. I wish he could have seen this game.
 
But not as much as I wish Tyler Bertuzzi could have seen it.

Here's why I have zero respect for anyone in the hockey media not currently employed by Bally Sports Detroit: Despite having the 2nd best record in the league in January 1st, Detroit was consistently ranked in the 14-18 range in all the various power rankings this week. But next week everyone will be riding our bandwagon like they've recognized it all along.
