Football is back, time for 5 months of offseason in a week and a half. This is going to be fun to watch this feeding frenzy happen.

    Kris Draper announces retirement

I love Drapes. He was a class act and a force with Maltby on the PK. Unfortunately, there is a logjam of players waiting to get into the lineup, and Draper was increasingly being sat last season. Not one single bad word will be said about Draper, but unfortunately careers end when you don't really want them to with the young guys needing to get into the game. He was a key part of the Wings for many years during our glory years winning 4 cups, and he will forever be known as a champion.

3 out of 4 in Minnesota and 12 of their last 13 against the Twinkies. We are now 2 up on Cleveland and it looks like our bullpen is starting to shape up, offense is clicking pretty well, we just need that #5 starter. Oh yeah, Don Kelly is on FIRE lol. did you guys see that?

he only had played 56 games before he came over here, so the average is a bit skewed. 3 hr and 20 something RBI is not 3 steps ahead. Just stating facts. Mono is not something that is easy to recover from, it totally saps everything you have. Brandon will be back, he just needs to find his stroke again.

the trade is 1 step forward on offense and 3 steps back on defense. I know batting gets all the glory, but defense is equally important and from what I saw today, Betimit is not even in the same ballpark defensively.

And the season starts over as the Tigers are again tied for the division lead after the Indians drop 2 straight and the Tigers take game 3 against the sox. Some clutch hitting and good D gave us that game. Lets keep this thing rolling.

I think DD is going to be busy on the phones the next 4 days. We absolutely need another rotation pitcher and a everyday second baseman. If he can swing decent trades for both of those spots without losing Turner, I think we will have a decent shot the rest of this season. Jim just needs to forget resting his players until we have mathematically locked up the division. Every game now is critically important and he cannot be resting people for the playoffs like he did the last few years... especially since we never made the playoffs. The rest of this year may be the last chance Leyland has at coaching, and he knows it, so I expect him to go hard through to the end. We need to pounce on this weak division and start to play ball and pull away and not let the other teams stick around.

that was the definition of a pitcher's duel yesterday. the only way you can beat JV is to not allow any runs yourself. good performance by both hurlers last night, and I tip my hat to Haren who was lights out.

yes, this is very embarrassing. After JV and the Big Potato, this team has nothing in terms of pitching. The pitchers we have do have the skills to be good pitchers, they just are not executing at this point. A major shake-up is needed to wake this team out of it's pitching coma. I just do not know what else to say. We can hit, but have one of the worst staffs anywhere at the moment aside from JV. Dombrowski or Leyland needs to do something drastic to this team. Oh yeah, get rid of Ra-bum too.

I think Santiago is trying to get the starting 2B job. Awesome play in the 1st to double up Reyes, and a couple of hits at the plate as well. Jim, if it aint broke, don't fix it. Leave the guy in and see what he can do as a regular.

OK Enough with Leyland's hard-on for Raburn. He can't play 2nd base and is not hitting enough to keep him in the lineup. Either trade for a 2B or put Santiago there full time.

Do I need to keep repeating myself that JV is fricking filthy? Oh my gosh this guy is good. No one better in baseball. Its not even becoming an argument at this point.

JV is the best pitcher in baseball right now, bar none. Every time he goes out he is a beast. Yeah, Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay are really good, but people do not fear them the way they do when they see JV's name starting that day. He has always had the stuff to win a lot of games and strike a lot of people out, but now he knows it and is actually PITCHING rather than trying to blow people away, and that is freekin scary. A guy who can pitch with JV's stuff is going to strike fear into the eyes of every opponent that steps into the box. Its also cool to see that we have 2 guys tied for the AL lead in victories. Haven't had that in a long time.

JV is on some kind of mission right now. He has no-hit stuff every time he goes out. He is going to start the ASG and get the Cy Young if he keeps on like he is. Don't miss one of his starts, a pitcher like this is extremely rare.

    Atlanta Thrashers move to Winnipeg

I think the fact that Phoenix is putting up a playoff team lately, and the fact that Atlanta has been to the first round ONCE in 12 years is a major factor. Atlanta is not putting up much of a fight in keeping a team there that people want to see. At least Phoenix is making an attempt at fielding a competitive team so people might actually want to go and see. Atlanta is and never was a hockey market, and the hockey team has been dying ever since it moved in. Time to cut your losses and get rid of a mistake that should never have been made.

Looks like Jackson is starting to heat up, Penny is getting his stride, JV found something that works, Porcello is looking better. We might be turning a corner towards consistency.

I had a little feeling right away that made me pay extra attention to this game for some reason. Right from the start, I was getting antsy waiting for the Jay's first hit, and in the 5th when JV made that great play and Cabby got an Oscar for his performance, I told my dad, "every one of these has a really spectacular play to keep it alive." (I didn't say "no-hitter" for fear of jinx like a shutout situation in hockey lol) In '07, Nefi Perez made that great sliding play to get a double play, in '09, that CF in Chicago robbed a home run in the 9th and held on for the out for mark buehrle's perfect game, and last year, Jackson made that awesome over-the-shoulder grab for Galarraga's almost perfect game, and today, JV helped his own cause with a great scramble and gun for the out. What a well pitched game, not really over-powering like his first one with 12 K's, but a really well "pitched" game.

Rhymes and Seizemore swap spots in AAA and MLB. Sizemore is tearing the cover off the ball batting .400+ down there, so the Big Club is giving him a shot.

Time for Avila to move up in the order. Preferably taking over Magglio's spot since Magglio couldn't hit a beach ball with a tennis racket.
