GDT 12/29 GDT : Detroit Red Wings at Winnipeg Jets, 8:00 EST
dragonballgtz replied to NerveDamage's topic in General
And to ensure the highest possible execution would mean to put the correct lines out on the ice. But I get that at the end of the day the players we have are not tough mentally. -
GDT 11/29 GDT : Florida Panthers at Red Wings, 2:00 EST

Nyquist and Tatar should at least be able to score against weaker opposition. Hell Larkin played less than Nyquist and still scored. -

I'm not watching the game but I can see on nhl.com Larkin has played less than 8 minutes. Is something wrong with him? -
gdt 10/10 GDT : Red Wings 4 at Hurricanes 3

Was that Big E that played like he was 5'5'' in front of the net on that last goal? Whoever that was they were out muscled and out position big time -

Missed the 1st half of the 1st period, but I did notice two horrific turnovers by Z. The 2nd one lead to a PK -
Kings Insider: Kopitar contract-extension not even close
dragonballgtz replied to frankgrimes's topic in General
If I remember correctly some of the lower paid players were against the cap because they thought of situations like this. The top stars get their money but the end guys get less. Anyway Kopitar will get paid, but I do wonder if he will heed Glencross's warning. After all at the end of the day this is a buisness -
He was, once playoffs started he never really got to play.

Stamkos might get Weber salary money, like $14M.
-
Pretty much, but it always seemed like the line combos were changing during games.

Remaing RFAs to be signed - Jurco, Pulkkinen, Aubry
dragonballgtz replied to e_prime's topic in General
Yes they do. They never go off the cap, teams are just allowed to go over the cap. The capgeek link should still work And what really sucks is they do not get the benefit of taking a contract bigger than what they usually are able to come the trade deadline. On topic: Any new updates? -

Guys like Savard and Pronger do count against their teams cap hit. However, a team is able to go above the cap limit by X amount based on a formula. On topic: I hope these guys get signed soon -
Signed Gustav Nyquist signed 4-Year Deal $4.75 mill AAV
dragonballgtz replied to e_prime's topic in General
So this deal will take him into his 30s. If it is under $5M I will be surprised. -
Sounds like a guess to me. Similar to how Khan stated Nyquist would get a Tatar type deal (money) in his article, but later in the comments section stated he would get more.
-
Those seem to be cap hits. Crosby salary was $12M last season, Getzlaf made $8.75M last year and going up to $9.25M next season. Getzlaf pretty much gave ANA a "free year" by making $6M in the finale year of his 8-year contract, cap space be important. Weber banked $14M last season, and Ovie $10M. But you have to keep in mind throw away years, and also how big of a percentage their cap hits took when initially signed.

Any contract going longer than 2 years and less than $5M would be a shock to me.

signed Red Wings sign D Mike Green (3-years, $18-million)
dragonballgtz replied to Dominator2005's topic in General
I just see Quincey not being re-signed at the end of the year. His $4.25M being invested into our younger players that are out of options (waiver exempt). -
Anyone else getting a lot of lag on NHL.com?
-
I really hope Nyquist doesn't get an offer sheet. Holland needs to sing him now before some GM thinks he can take him away from us.
-
After this quote from Bowman: I guess this is the bad part of having a young winning team. They want their big contract faster instead of a "bridge" deal.

If the Wings didn't buyout Weiss this year, the Wings really have Weiss for 5 years in the books. This year for the full $4.9M plus the additional four years at the buyout price. So now the Wings have more cap space and a roster spot now. That is due to having that extra long contract that is not allowed now in the NHL. Z's cap would be in the ~$7.5M a year range without those extra throw away years added. No way. Tatar signed his current contact while only scoring 19G and putting up 39 points the year before. Guss has back to back 25G+ seasons and is older than when Tatar signed his deal. Guss will be 26 years old, this is his prime time money making years. EDIT: Exactly

I'm guessing Guss wants more money than Holland expected, or he is after an UFA.

Report: Cleary wants to return for 1 more season
dragonballgtz replied to evilmrt's topic in General
Personally I think it's wiser for a team to keep the younger cheaper talent for cap reasons. The more money you can save on 3rd/4th liners the more you can spend on top end talent. Now if only the Wings the get that top 2 D guy. *crosses fingers* -
I think it comes from the fact that Fedorov made it public knowledge he wanted to play 20+ minutes each game. He wanted to play as high as 28 minutes a game, supposedly thats how many minutes he was playing in his MVP season aka season where Yzerman was injured. It would have been interesting to see how the Wings would have managed the cap if Fedorov was still on the team. His $6M cap hit in 05-06 would have forced another hard decision for Holland.
