McCreary is one of the refs where you can excuse a bad call/missed call because he gets it right more often than not. He certainly had the respect of his peers and the players, that's for sure. I did hear, though, that even though McCreary himself is retiring, his mustache will stay on as a mentor to the other officials. EDIT: Here's a fun fact: Bill McCreary is the cousin of NHL player Bill McCreary Jr, who is more well-known as the player that delivered this hit against a young Wayne Gretzky:

Here's a better idea on what to do with both Phoneix and Atlanta: drop them both and have the other 28 teams choose the players from those teams. Deepen the talent pool by contracting the league. That will put on a better product than moving two teams round. Oh, and also get rid of some of the god-awful refs in the league and dump Bettman and company that way we can get some competent people in charge that actually care about hockey.

One more period left in the game and it's only a 3 goal deficit. Shouldn't be too hard for the Wings to get at least a point out of it. 4-1 PIT over DET after 2 periods.
-
Wings PK. Looks like The Todd off for interference.
-
HANK!!! 4-1 PIT
-
4-0 PIT. Looks like Howie is being pulled and Joey will come in.
-
Yambags. 3-0 PIT SHG.
-
Wings PP. Niskinen off for boarding Fritters.

Wow, looks like the Wings get the benefit of a no-goal call in their favor. Wings lost the faceoff and nearly got burned by it. Still 2-0 PIT.
-
2nd on! Let's go Red Wings!

1 period down, 2 more to go. Better have a terrific 2nd and 4rd, Wings .

Cool, Wings' haven't given up a last minute goal in a while. 2-0 PIT.
-
Wings PP coming up. Jordan Staal off for hooking.
-
Bleh, Penguins score. DuPuis gets it through Howie. No one was harassing him on his way to Howie's right. 1-0 PIT
-
Good kill by the Wings.
-
Wings PK. Ericsson off for holding after throwing a Penguin to the ice.
-
