I was there too! Got interviewed by the Free Press and made it into the next day's championship edition! One of the crowning moments of my youth. Always had a blast at JoeVision, but I just don't think the excitement is there to generate enough fans going (we can't even sell out actual games). I don't miss the Howling Diablos, though

It only takes one second to win a hockey game. The Wings could play for 59:59, and if JS plays like he did in the last game and we fail to capitalize on 5 power plays (not to mention 5 on 3s!), it just won't matter if the Ducks capitalize on the one second we give them. I'm having flashbacks of Edmonton.

Errrm, aren't those precisely the sort of attendance numbers the Wings suffered in the 70s? Granted I don't know totals, but I was under the impression they couldn't get more than a few thousand butts in the seats. Their strength in attenance is due to two things: winning, and Steve Yzerman. I guarantee that as soon as Lidstrom and eventually, the rest of the 90s Cups core depart, we will see the numbers fall. We already can't sell out the stadium for the WCF, and that's not because prices are high. If this team had the Yzermans and Shanahans on it, I think people would find a way. And so we'll slip back into oblivion, and we'll be OMG BASKETBALLTOWN for a few years, until they suck again and the Wings attain new glory. Then people will be saying "We were really a hockey city all along....."

Who cares? Why does it have to be one or the other? At their respective heights right now, I think the Pistons own the Wings. But the Wings own me, and personally, that's all that really matters. Am I the only one who is terribly sick of the media pitting the two against each other?

i love the switch of kopecky for calder. well played big things tonight in anaheim, and since i have to play softball tonight and will miss a period or so, i expect the wings will do me proud in my absence. i'll be listening from the dugout. winners, 4-2. GO WINGS!

I was there too. Best game I've ever attended. Yzerman's retirement ceremony was memorable, but that 7-0 whipping was unforgettable. We joked that the Wings scored a goal for every $100 we spent to be there. It wasn't an afternoon game - definitely night. I have pictures at the Joe with our commemorative newspapers (Au-Rev-Roy!), and it's dark out.
