3/29 GDT - Red Wings at Canadiens - 7:30 PM EST

Can we just say Petr is hurt? Please? Somehow this guy bumped his head and forgot how to play goalie and it is terrifying. Please offense, come through.
  2. What exactly was the penalty on Dats for? I'm at a bar and it is loud and crazy, but it looked like Kunitz was going in on him to initiate contact. Or, I could have already drank too much.

3/15 GDT : Red Wings at Philadelphia Flyers, 7:30 ET

How is it now of our guys know how to check? I'm pretty sure Datysuk would have our biggest hits highlights this season.

I just watched a period of hockey played by a team of Hodors.

    Kronwall suspended one game

Anyone have the hit on Abs (I think) from game 5? Where Stamkos got the hooking call and two Lightning players smashed into him by the boards (and I felt that one certainly left his feet).

    Kronwall suspended one game

Good thing this happened so long ago.....
  7. I'm in FL listening to the broadcast. Interference is mentioned every other time. The roughing on E when he went for his head, the commentator said, "basically laughed and said what is that call? Then on replay saw it, and said well they need to call the interference!" Then on the Kronwall hit, "leaping headshot, but Stamkos was interfered when the puck got further down the ice". Are they playing who can say interference the most like Super Troopers saying meow? Kronwall hit didn't look to me. It is annoying that I am so apathetic about it. So many bad calls. Anyone see the Red Wings getting dragged down? Sorry, I usually don't post during games. Well, I really don't post much at all lol. I read you guys during intermissions.

  9. I'm just annoyed with the whole "legal interference" talking bit. I keep hearing it and it is picking up steam. Eventually people will just act as if everything is interference by the Wings. I'm just uncomfortable that all the idiot mouthpieces are picking it up and acting as if that alone is allowing us to win. If you repeat stuff enough, people will eventually begin to believe it.
  10. Well that's what YOU think, let me go ask the other voice in my head what he thinks.......
  11. Am I crazy, or was this game at 3PM at one point?

4/7 GDT : Carolina Hurricanes 2 at Red Wings 3

Why on earth anyone would think our D can play "mistake free" is beyond me. We should be going all out to score 5 goals a game because you know we are good to give up 3. I hope we clean house on D this summer. Anyone else tired of seeing Red Wings rolling around on the ice like this is midgets vs an NHL team?

    4/2 GDT : Bruins 3 at Red Wings 2

First goal, meh. Second goal, I'm sorry but I'm not blaming Petr. He was aggressive, he steps out because for whatever reason NO ONE IS THERE, and then the puck gets behind him and THREE Red Wings can't clear it and the ONE Bruin manages to get it. Third goal all him. To me should have only been two, but even then, we are only getting a point. We turtle the entire 3rd period playing not to lose, I don't understand that. It hasn't worked in the past...what...how many years? We always let in a goal when we face a 6 on 5 late in the game. Go for the jugular and put them the hell down.

    Nyquist Fined for Diving/Embellishment

One is a dive, the other just looks like him falling down. The biggest problem with all of this is that it wasn't called diving on the ice, OR wasn't ignored. I'm disappointed in Nyquist. I'd also wish the refs would be consistent in their calls and actually call penalties. When there isn't a foul, let them play. If players were punished for diving, and very soft penalties ignored, then there wouldn't be incentive to do it. The refs seem pretty terrible in their judgments in general. Then plays like Franzen getting hurt aren't called......

Where were team-mates on the Smith headshot

We have had many issues with this in the past. 1) I don't know if it is Holland, Babcock, or the players, but they don't seem to have the willingness to fight. Even when it was a terrible cheap shot. 2) The strange mentality ignoring this aspect of the game. Yeah, skill is great, but if you can't stand up for your team when needed, teams are going to walk all over you. When a team can physically intimidate your guys, can cheap shot and get away with it because no one will do anything, that is a problem. 3) We expect the refs to protect us, but when they don't, we get abused and don't have a backup plan. We've seen this year in and year out. Remember last year with Franzen and Neil? Franzen said this, "I’ve been getting head shots pretty much every year and I don’t think it’s ever been punishment for any of the hits,” and this,“He thinks I’m not tough because I’m not fighting him; what does he have, like 30 fights a year? And he’s been doing that his whole career,” Franzen said. “I’ve never had a fight in my whole life. It’s like me asking him to get hockey sense and good hands or something. I’ve never been fighting, didn’t grow up fighting. For me it’s not a part of the game. I’m not going to fight. I’ve had enough concussions. I’m definitely not going to risk one doing something stupid like that.” Here Franzen is admitting he gets hit, doesn't get protected by the refs or league, and won't fight. Isn't this the epitome of the Red Wings philosophy? Just play with more skill and it will work itself out right? 4) Ignoring the fact that we do need hard hitters to defend guys. I don't want dirty players. I DO want someone who will stand up for our guys. Not to mention you have two or three guys against us on ice and we have only one guy willing to stand up for us, it will be ugly. 5) Playoffs. This crap gets ridiculous. Not only are things ratcheted up even higher, and generally diving is rewarded, but teams throw down over perfectly clean hits. It is stupid, but that is the current NHL. We can't skate away from that fact. We go into a situation where we expect our skill guys to have to do all the heavy fighting we are in trouble. 6) Teammates need to stick up for each other more. You need to believe a teammate has your back. What if Ericsson wasn't on the ice for that Helm hit? Would anyone else on the ice have done anything? 7) Covering our eyes isn't going to make it go away, and the management and coaching need to realize that.

    ECQF - Game 4 - Bruins 3 at Red Wings 2 (F/OT)

My biggest problem is time and again the powers that be that create the roster and choose the lineup think that the refs will protect us in the playoffs. We've seen this act year after year when we get screwed over by this mentality. If it is a team we can beat, they dive and we end up on the PK all day. If it is a team that feels they can out muscle us, or beat up, they do that. No matter what, the refs let them do it because "it's the playoffs". Look at last night, I couldn't believe half the stuff going on in that game. Just disgusting. If we had a line that could bang the crap out of people and drop gloves, people would stop with this ridiculous cheap shots. Instead we pretend that being "above" that and playing the "right" way will let us win. Welcome to now. We are not easily more talented than other rosters. We can't be "above" knocking people around and expecting the league to actually make the right call and curtail this kind of thing. Face it, the league loves to give lip service to "clean" games, but listen to those announcers last night. I didn't hear much disdain in their voice about stuff. Hell, they were cooing over Marchand. Having a couple guys who will take out a POS like Marchand would resolve a lot of this. If the refs don't come over to protect us, we are basically powerless. You know who we are? Anyone watch Game of Thrones? We are Ned Stark. Try to play the game the right way, honorable, by the rules, and what happens? We get screwed over. We fail to adjust.

Matt Cooke offered in-person hearing for knee hit

I think it is so you don't have him on the OTHER team injuring YOUR guys. Other than that, I don't have an explanation.
  18. If that was slashing I guess Z got slahed last night by Toews standing in front of the ref. I mean come on, that is the threshold? I look forward to 1 on 1 hockey the rest of the night.
  19. The Red Wings just flat out aren't creating. I'm not sure who is pushing the idea, but taking the puck to the corner and then blasting it at a goalie hugging the post is not going to work. There is little passing around the net to make them shift or move around. The Ducks collapse in the middle and other than a handful of times, they don't allow or we don't try to get near the middle. On our defensive end, I have NEVER, EVER seen a playoff team give up backside opportunities like the Wings this series. Every time the Ducks charge down ice someone seems to forgot the back post attacker. Everyone collapses idiotically on the guy with the puck or forgets there are 4 other guys out there, and we get burned. How many times did we see Howard have to bail us out with a one on one save when they passed it to a WIDE open Duck crashing the backpost? I don't get it, and it is happening consistently. I don't see how we can win the series with the way we are playing. We might have more shots, but they had much better opportunities to score. Adjustments have to be made and we have to play a lot better.

ECQF - (8) NY Islanders vs. (1) Penguins

Wow, so that is how you score. You mean you aren't supposed to take it into the corner and shoot it at an impossible angle OR pass it in front of the net with no one there? What's that other thing we do? Oh yeah shoot it from the blue line right at the goalie and don't make him have to shift at all. Last night I guarantee I could have stopped 3/4 of those shots we had with a defense in front of me. I'm not saying I have the reflexes to save them, I'm saying if I just stood there, no way they were going in. Puck goes left to the corner cover that side. Puck goes right cheat to that side. Take a knee hug the post, get hit by the puck, rinse, repeat.

    Refs this series!

Other than the penalty on Abs, the two that really irked me where the "hooking" calls. The one on Eaves where the Duck player basically throws his arms up and acts like he was murdered was an acting job, and they other on...Cleary was it? Stick lifting = hooking now, and that was a pathetic call.

Abdelkader suspended 2 games for hit on Lydman

Multiple issues with this. 1) No call initially on ice. 2) Are they going to review hits where a guy stays down and then go back and give a penalty? 3) The head wasn't the main point of contact. 4) He didn't leave his skates until the hit. He didn't jump into him. Not a fan of the technique, but he certainly wasn't headhunting. 5) I thought the hit last game ON him was worse, where he got checked in the back into the boards. It reminded me quite a bit of the type of hit that happened to Draper. Luckily he wasn't any closer to the boards or near the bench, but that was a VERY bad hit as far as what could have happened. That wasn't a hockey play just a cheap shot. 6) This is going to turn into a reaction league. A guy just should stay down like soccer players and see if they can draw a penalty. 7) Initially I didn't think it was a penalty. Since I've seen replays it has looked fine. I don't know how on earth that is a game misconduct. 8) If you watch the Kings and Blues series, worse is happening every other minute.

    25 Games for Torres

Then we simply disagree. I don't see letting up on the contact nor trying to avoid him. The puck is much further away, for a longer period than with Torres. Torres is a harder hit, and has a bigger rap sheet, but I don't see this as any better. Frankly, I want my D-men to f*** people up, in a cleaner way, but I certainly want that. All of this IMO has been spiraling downhill for a while, but it was really poignant after the Rome-Horton hit, where because Horton was hurt, Rome got suspended (or a longer one) due to that. Eventually it is going to get to the point where players will stay down, sit out a couple games and give the offender a 10 game suspension. I respect your opinion, I just don't see the avoidance you claim.

    25 Games for Torres

You aren't? Guy hits him late, around the head, leaps into him. Oh, right, Couture didn't end up in the hospital.
