I'm sure they will never trade Getz for Zet alone. That's my opinion. And it basically says that Gets is better than any player in our roster. Are you in favor of this trade? No? Why? Should we add?

CenterIce reacted to RedWingAbner in Rafalski Considered "top six signings since the 2005-06 season&#34
Who wrote the article, Mommy Rafalski?
Yeah, I also lived in a craphole rental in New Port Richey, FL. Should I go back because they won the Cup that year? I know it's an extreme example, but people become almost religious about moves made during a Cup year. Sometimes, a team wins in spite of them. Rafalski was good that year and has mostly been an offensive #5 defenseman made to look better by Nick Lidstrom since then....with glaring defensive lapses. I'd rather have signed Schneider to the 2-year deal.

We will just have to wait and see. Holland said he was looking at it. He didn't say he was going to re-sign him. The Wings like to have a lot of depth available. Look at 2007 when we lost 3 defensemen to injury in the playoffs. Look at last year. What happens if we don't sign all our restricted free agents. We all like Holland as GM. One of the ways he does so well, is that he makes sure he has a lot of options available to him.
Plus, Maltby was another one of those injured last year, but he played through it has long as he possibly could. When others were not in the line-up, he was there. You have to give him some credit for that.

CenterIce got a reaction from T.Low in How would you feel about Chelios as assistant?
Here is my take on this whole fire McCrimmon thing. How much does McCrimmon really control the defensive system of the Wings? During games, it is his job to send the pairings out that all the coaches probably agreed to be against certain lines. He gives them pointers on the bench, but this is probably just little adjustments. I assume he works with the defense in practice, but they are following the team defensive system.
If everybody remembers, outside of the year the Wings won the cup in '08, their overall defense wasn't that great. Even in '07, pre-McCrimmon, they were consistently caught in their own zone for extended periods and either giving up a goal or getting a penalty. The Wings scoring depth has usually been able to cover up any defensive short falls, but they are thin on their scoring depth, now. So, this shows through more.
I don't think, just changing one coach is going to fix this. I think they Wings need to just be a little smarter on the ice. They have showed signs of it, lately. They are more inclined to chip the puck out of the zone, instead of trying to force it out. They still need to work on some of their short little passes, when pressured, because they still send it to a guy who is either not expecting it or is covered, as well.
I believe Chris Kunitz is still in Pittsburgh, and he was in Anaheim at that time. I can't think of any others, right now.

We have had this discussion before, but first, it is a good problem to have. That means you have multiple lines that can contribute. It puts more pressure on their line mates, because more is expected of them, which is good. First and second line guys will get top defensive pairings, so I have always like scorers on the third or fourth line, because it creates mismatches. We have seen this with Samuelsson and Hudler, producing in a lower number of minutes on the lower lines. The players just have to get over the individual issues and realize it is all about the end result which is the win.

You can't have a player who just sits on the bench for all but 5 minutes of a game anymore. Everyone has to contribute. If a guy can fight, but chip in some goals and assists, every now and than, bring him on, but if all he does is fight, there is no room on the roster. You wouldn't want him to be in every game, because he wouldn't always be needed. And, you can't always predict exactly which games he would be needed.

I did not say that the Wings' should not have a fighter on the team. I said if they do, they need one who can contribute in other areas, not just the fists. You do remember that there used to be 24 roster spots; now only 23. There used to be no salary cap; now there is one. You can't have a guy sitting on your roster, waiting for certain games, where there may be a fight. And, the guys you were talking about? I assume you mean Joey Kocur, who had key goals in the 97 finals versus Philadelphia. McCarty had the hat trick against Colorado in the Conference Finals in 02. Dallas Drake also contributed points in 08 playoffs.
I think you are just proving my point. I like fighting. Never said any differently. I just said they have to contribute, especially in this era. The guys you are inferring did just that.
    Well said.

Leino came out and said in an NHL article that he basically did not like it in Detroit. He didn't want to be over coached, with everyone telling him what to do. He also said the Wings were trying to make him a goal scorer, when he feels he is a play maker. He didn't want to play system hockey. So, his attitude was not in a place to play for the Wings. With the Wings, you have to buy into the system. You have to be responsible in both ends of the ice. Plus, you have to be willing to be flexible and play different roles. Some guys play well on some teams and not on others.

You won't see a US team playing a Canadian team. NBC doesn't think a Canadian team can carry in the US, and CBC wants Canadian teams for their side. You may see each Canadian team get a bunch of these for the next few years, because they are playing theirs on Hockey Day in Canada.

I think you can summarize the Wings attitude in the playoffs over the years as been there done that. So, they sometimes get complacent and feel that if they just bide their time, it will work out. They don't like to open it up, which can cause the situation to get even worse. I think the biggest thing is that the Wings need to have better starts to not get into that situation in the first place. They need to play a complete 60 minutes.

I can't think of a three year span where they made the Conference Finals or Stanley Cup Finals in a row. They have usually been all the way or get out in the first or second round. I don't think all the guys who were injured for long periods this year should be tired, but certain guys like Datsyuk, Lidstrom, and Stuart have logged a lot of tough minutes this year, because they have had to make up for players out. Those guys have the right to be tired.
