Are hockey hits harder than football hits?

As others have stated there is not a black in white answer. I think the hardest of hockey hits are probably harder then the hardest of football hits, but really hard football hits occur much more frequently then really hard hockey hits. With hits in general in football occurring more often, overall I would say football hits are harder.

Is Holmstrom a Hall of Famer?

While the answer is No, he is the absolute best at what he does, and has been the best for most of his career in the N.H.L. But we don't see anyone getting in because they were the best fighter, or for being the fastest skater year after year.

NHL testing new rules and rink modifications

This is my understanding of hybrid icing: If the team is clearly going to get the puck, and the other team has no chance at it, the play stops and icing is called. But if two players are in a race for the puck, you let that play out. I would be in favor of this rule. Seconds are not ticking off the clock for one person to go and get the puck, but it still allows the battles for the puck that I think is a big part of hockey. Also, for the delayed penalty. The article does not really describe what they are looking at, but hopefully it is something along these lines. If you score a goal while the other team has a delayed penalty, you still get your power play. This could be a simple way to slightly increase scoring, without making major changes.
  5. I read an article a while back, I believe it was about Jimmy D but it may have been about Holland (its not really important which one it was), and he said he looked at the most successful teams in the league, and it started with a solid defensemen who could play the puck, and from then on he looked for defense men who could start the charge up the ice. So it would make perfect since to have the 4th highest defense spending. Especially when we still have arguably the best defense men in the league, and at least a second one that is in the top 10.

Miller and Eaves likely to file for arbitration?

As stated above, I would not be surprised if both were signed before they reach arbitration hearings. It is in the players best interest to file for arbitration even if they plan on being signing before the hearing, just in case things don't work out.

NHL Rule Change Thoughts while following Olympics

One of the leagues I played in had a form of no touch icing: if the offending team had a chance at getting the puck they would not automatically rule it icing, but if it was clear that the puck would be obtained by the non-offending team, they would rule it icing. I really liked it that way, but no league I have played on since then had it that way.

Mike Grier's agent says he's 'interested' in Red Wings

as for Grier i'm torn. but leaning towards no. I think the redwings do need some kind of an enforcer, but if he is not good enough to get descent playing time what is the point? I

    Jimmy Devellano on Fan 590

In the interview Devellano mentions that Chelios retired, did I miss something? I knew the wings parted ways with him, but I thought he was looking to play on an eastern conference team. Did Devellano misspeak or did Chelios actually retire?

    Samuelsson Selling His House?

Kind of like Robert Lang? He was another player that we loved to hate, until he had a big goal, and then we went back to hating him... Didnt Sammy replace Lang on the point for powerplays?

    McCarty doing color, audio?

As a big fan of McCarty it pains me to say this: McCarty probably has a much brighter career in the broadcast booth then he does on the ice...
  17. I was not a big fan of the North America vs the World format when they were running it, but the all star games have been so boring, they should like into that. Although I would even more enjoy, the leagues all-stars vs the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the way they used to do it...

Teen goalie designs pads to trick shooters

A fair amount of pros think that black tape makes the puck harder for goalies to pick up on... os maybe they have no business shooting the puck either.. Im not suggesting that it makes a difference, as a goalie it makes no difference to me what color the tape is.

    NHL experimenting with new nets

I noticed in the article, that they said, most of the shots from the outside, went wide of the net (and behind the red line) With the current design, some pucks bounce into the crease, or a few feet in front of the crease, keeping the puck in an area where it can easily be shot in the net. With the angled post, the early , with the new posts, it seems like this would not happen as often. Im glad that the N.H.L. is looking at options other then expanding the nets. Has anyone seen any numbers on the volume of goals this year compared to previous years? It seems like every time I look at the scores around the league, I see one or two games that are 5-4 or 6-5. (Im still not sure more scoring is going to bring a ton of fans to the game)
  20. Hopefully Marian Hossa after this season. But, Tim Thomas is from the Flint Area. So I assume he would like to come back....

    Equipment

Just a quick observation. Im a goalie, just beer league, but never the less, black stick tape vs white stick tape doesn't really make that big of a difference to me. Can see the puck pretty clearly either way, the black puck stands out pretty well on the white ice, no matter what color the tape or the blade is. Tonight Hossa's blade appears to be all black, with black tape.

Support Chris Osgood (and the Detroit Red Wings)

I wouldnt say that he failed as the number one goalie here in the past, he was not playing bad for Detroit, but who would pass up the chance to bring in the best goalie in the world?

Support Chris Osgood (and the Detroit Red Wings)

im not trying to say that Osgood isnt struggling, because he is, but it doesn't always have to do with the number of shots vs the quality of the shots. How many goals have been scored on him in a 5 on 3 situation? How many have been scored directly off of a bad turn-over? And yes he has let some weak goals in. For now Osgood is playing well enough to keep them in the game, if he wasn't he wouldn't be starting. Its not accurate to place the blame entirely on the defense or on the goalie. Osgood is struggling, the defense is struggling. The two make for a bad combo. He will get over the hump or he will become the backup. At this point Babcock is obviously confident he will get over it, otherwise he would have benched him by now. For now the Wings are still winning, so they will continue to give Osgood a chance.

    11/26 GDT: Canadiens 3 @ Red Wings 1

nice gdt! and completely off topic; is that a warrior goalie stick? I didnt know they made them. A quick search of my favorite hockey suppliers turned up nothing.
