  1. We signed him so we didn't lose his rights. I have no qualms with him spending one or two more years in the SEL.

Who cares if he plays in a "soft" league. He was a top 4 DMan on a championship team in one of the top tier leagues in the world that produces unbelievable hockey talent. And there's nothing wrong with comparing his style of play to other NHL players if you've seen him play and have followed him since his signing. Plus, saying he has a high hockey IQ (Hakan, whose word I'll take over yours and anyone elses) like other non-physical players in the league isn't the sme thing as saying "OMG, he's smart, so he'll be the exact same as him!!!"

All I meant was we should reserve a little judgement until he faces guys like Nash, Penner, and such I understand he should not be on the ice with guys like that alot but it will happen and he will need to play.

I have issue with him playing somewhere else on our dime.... rights or not... he entered a draft and was drafted and has been signed, He agreed on a deal to play for us.... report for duty!

I won't deny that Hakan knows his talent and I never brought him or his opinion into this. I do believe that it was those same opinions that said "E" was gonna be a top 2 D man. and we are on the border if we are gonna sign him again. just sayin'

  2. Why? He's fairly shifty and smart about not getting hit. Rafalski made a living of not being big and being able to avoid hits. Even a slow Lidstrom used his hockey IQ to avoid hits as well. I wouldn't worry about his size, as I would about his first step and working on being able to rub people off in the corners.

I think It is a little early to judge his hockey sense. He has been playing Euro Hockey. (soft)

He will be a great addition no doubt. But saying that Raffy and Lids did well does not mean this kid will be the same way.

Comparing game styles to them as well is a bit premature. Let the Ink dry on the deal and let him get here before we decide to compare his style

to anyone but his own in the North American style of play.

Not to mention.....if we signed him to play for us next year!....he better be HERE next year! I think that is crap!

  3. Trading Hudler for Nabokov is stupid, let's get that out of the way. We would be trading a top-six forward in his 20s who is simply held down by the depth of the Wings' system for a good backup. And then you replace Hudler with Sturm, who isn't even as good. How about just signing Brian Boucher? Then, EVERYONE involved is younger on the Wings. You've also replaced Filppula with Laich, which isn't going to happen.

And your additions on defense are not thought out well. By adding Wisniewski and Green, you've added two defensemen who are one-dimensional offensive players. And then you've placed them on the same pairing; hello goals against. Green also isn't a free agent until after next season, and he is an RFA then. Beyond that, you've erased Jakub Kindl from the lineup to sit Brendan Smith in the press box when he could be getting top-pairing minutes in Grand Rapids. If that's supposed to be a trade, it isn't even close to happening. So let's retool here. Replace Green with Joni Pitkanen. Kindl is the 7th, not Smith.

As for goaltending, Osgood may be coming back, so that's easy. If not, Brian Boucher. That's easy too. Both are proven vets in the regular season and playoffs. Or there are guys like Theodore, Auld, or Hedberg.

    Now what do we have?

    Hudler/Zetterberg/Cleary

    Filppula/Datsyuk/Holmstrom

    Franzen/Abdelkader/Bertuzzi

    Mursak/Helm/Eaves

    Miller/Emmerton

    Lidstrom/Wisniewski

    Kronwall/Stuart

    Ehrhoff/Pitkanen

    Kindl

    Howard

    Osgood (Boucher)

That roster is a bit better, don't you think?

No. Hudler on a top line! Less chance of happening then My "Dream" scenario.

Most of your points I see.... But Hudler was given many chances to be involved and could not pick up the ball.......BUH BYE! Our "Depth" as you put it played better than Hudler... He made his own bed.....and he s*** in it!

Flip has value right now and we need to trade SOMEONE to replace Rafalski because the UFA market is gonna get gobbled up the way Kenny plays the waiting game.

and I was not intending Smith to sit here! or Kindl. they are always call up options. I was just showing that with depth in the line up we still had cap space if tweaking was needed at the deadline.

I am not saying that I replaced this player or had them on the same line or same pairings.... those were names on a roster. nothing more. and why would you not want Sturm or Laich? depth guys would probably really do well here playing with Helm or Dats even!

with the looming and pending retirement of Nick, (when ever it happends) we will need to have a guy who has played here to at least make a case for #1. Kronwall is good, but not a #1. with the UFA crop sucking ass and Kenny and his reluctance to be apart of day one of the UFA day..... a trade is gonna happen.

I am not saying my scenario is the way! Hell I thought it was just a "What If" thread... nobody gave me the key to JLA!

  4. OK This would be my dream scenario if the Cap is 62.2mill

changes would be to trade Flip to WAS for Green....

Trade Huds to NYI for Nabokov

    Let "E" and Salei walk

    Sign Laich,Sturm, Ehrhoff, and Wis.

    CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

    FORWARDS

    Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Johan Franzen ($3.954m)

    Todd Bertuzzi ($1.937m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m)

    Justin Abdelkader ($0.787m) / Darren Helm ($0.912m) / Patrick Eaves ($0.750m)

    Brooks Laich ($2.800m) / Marco Sturm ($2.500m) / Jan Mursak ($0.550m)

    / Drew Miller ($0.650m) / Cory Emmerton ($0.533m)

    DEFENSEMEN

    Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) / Nicklas Lidstrom ($5.900m)

    Mike Green ($5.250m) / James Wisniewski ($3.650m)

    Christian Ehrhoff ($3.500m) / Brad Stuart ($3.750m)

    / Brendan Smith ($0.875m)

    GOALTENDERS

    Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) / Evgeni Nabokov ($0.570m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)

(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)

SALARY CAP: $62,200,000; CAP PAYROLL: $61,578,711; BONUSES: $0

    CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $621,289

the numbers might not be EXACT on guys like Sturm (maybe a bit much) But this (to me) looks solid.

I know Wis would want more and Ehrhoff too, But I am also on the premiss that the cap is at 62.2 and not the possible 64.2 I think is the number I heard..But I am not a GM

I understand alot of money wrapped up in Defense believe me I know I did Say DREAM Scenario

  5. found this on Spectors...

    I Like the highlighted part!

ESPN.COM: Craig Button recently offered up some potential trade options for the Capitals this summer. He suggested shopping one of their current goalies (Semyon Varlamov, Michal Neuvirth, Bradon Holtby), perhaps to the Philadelphia Flyers for Scott Hartnell, or if they added Jeff Schultz, Braydon Coburn. Button also suggested offering up Mike Green to the Detroit Red Wings for Valtteri Filppula, or perhaps to Calgary for Robyn Regehr and maybe David Moss or Rene Bourque if they were willing to add prospect Cody Eakin. Button also proposed a blockbuster swap with Anaheim, shipping Green, Semin and one of their three goalies to Anaheim for Bobby Ryan and Francois Beauchemin.

I would say YES to that!

  6. Just out of curiosity because I really have no idea about these things, why does everyone think that Chelios would be a great replacement? He doesn't have any coaching experience, does he? Is there a reason I'm missing as to why he would automatically be an upgrade from McCrimmon?

Coaching just seems like one of those things that requires a lot of experience, and I don't mean playing experience, I mean actual coaching experience. Great players don't always make great coaches, right out of the gate.

Anyway, just wondering if there's something to it.

He works with defensive prospects now, he has a good feel for the way the game is played currently being only a couple years removed.

He has a great reputation with the players and they all respect him. To me being a coach relies on good knowledge of the game...(which he has)

I think he has a great hockey mind and would fill the role really ,really well.

  7. As we used to say when I was a kid, "Takes one to know one."

OR as the more diplomatic version goes, "Only a true professional can spot another one."

We used to say "I know you are, but what am I ?" I guess this can apply here as well

  8. Wings Fans -

First, I wanted to extend my congratulations on a great series (and season). Please don't construe this as me rubbing salt in your wound. As a hockey fan, I thought it was a fantastic series. Certainly not the outcome you were hoping for, but entertaining nonetheless. Injuries suck, so losing Cleary and Bertuzzi was tough on your chances. Even with that, last night came down to one goal. Sharks fans have had more than their share of playoff disapointment, so I know how frustrating the day after can be.

I also want to extend my thanks to those of you who contributed on LGS. It's nice when you have a group of knowledgeable fans from other teams visit our site. 99% of the visitors we had visit us had great takes. I suspended one account, because a discussion got a little heated, and I felt it was better to simply extinguish it before it got too out of hand. Hopefully there are no hard feelings from that event.

We made some new friends who we hope will come visit us on the forums from time to time.

I hope Sharks fans (especially those from LGS) conducted themselves in a manner which represented our fan base well. We're all sports fans after all.

Here's looking to many more great playoff series between our two teams. The rivalry is establishing itself as one of the best in professional sports.

    Regards,

    Mike

Thank you for opening your forums to us as well....

BUT! I will say that your playoff disappointments will never be as bad as Stanley Cup Finals - Game 7 - at Home and losing to the Pens and that player that we all have grown to hate! .... just sayin' the next day was more bitter than the day it happend...lol nothing compares to that...trust me....

  9. Kenny no longer has the cajones to make a trade. Huds will either be offered an extension or simply dumped in free agency once his contract expires.

I wish he would show players, like Hudler, that are not performing up to standards, that there are places for players like him........else where.

IMO a player deal needs to be made. Even if Flip needs to be included for the right return. We have to make this team better. and not wait for players in the

    minors to be ready.

  10. I am gonna watch as long as I can... sometimes these game 7 types are hard to watch and I can't.... I promised myself I would go as far as I could go.... Right now it feels like

"And we are under way in Game 7" (click)...

I did not watch the last 3 games....so I am gonna keep it going... enter the bubble - stay in the bubble until about 12:00 midnight.

  11. I think I posted this in the GDT for game 3 but yea it's really well done. I like it a lot.

There are some really ignorant comments on the actual youtube video and not like it matters one bit but the guy actually rapping is white. So those comments are completely unrelated.

Sorry..... I didnt see the GDT for game 3....Or I would not of re-posted.

  12. I would love to see our fans chanting, like the U of M students at their hockey games. They don't have to be as obscene as them, but something to make us different from other NHL teams. It would be nice if we could get organized and start chants through out the game. For example here are some of U of M chants...

With 1:04 left in a period:

    (4) HOW (3) MUCH (2) TIME (1) IS (0) LEFT?. (after announcer announces the time left) THANK YOU!

(When opposing team gets a penalty, raise your hand and wave)

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOH (until the player steps in the box) (edited)

(When the refs step on the ice at the beginning of a period)

BOO!!!!! CHECK THE NET… CHECK THE NET (until he checks it). GET INSIDE (until he gets inside the net). CHECK IT AGAIN (after he leaves the net).

We could do something about Bettman once a game or period.

    Suggestions....

I have always been partial to the chant "It's all your fault" to the visiting goalie when the home team scores.....
