  1. He's hurt. No doubt about it. Now what do we do? Does Babs risk further injury or put in a cold goalie in a 5-5 game that can swing momentum to the Jackets?

Keeping Ozzie in would be giving this game to the Jackets. He can hardly move out there. It looks like his groin to me.

I'd take my chances on Conklin to close this one out, whether we have to go back to Detroit or not, and let Ozzie start round 2.

  2. Sticking a goalie on the bench isn't the best way to help him find a rhythm.

    Agreed.

Much like Dom last year, Osgood will almost certainly be starting in the post-season unless he absolutely collapses (keep in mind his record is actually pretty good), so I'd rather we give him the means to get his game back on track rather than just benching him.

Granted tonight was a big statement game for Ozzie following yet another shutout for Conklin, and he really didn't perform. I didn't think any of the goals were awful, but six is a few too many to give up.

  3. Is that really the reason you'd be upset after a loss to the Sharks? Come on, now.

I was actually pretty stoked for the chance to take first place tonight, even if San Jose had a game at hand. I've always thought the second seed was cursed.

I've been noticing more and more people making comments about Gary Roberts joining the team replacing Kopecky. Just curious? How much does Roberts make, what should be done to get him, is it possible, and should we actually do it? Kopecky is useless and I'd take just about anyone over him.

And mess with our dynamite fourth line? I don't think so. ;)

  4. Especially the defense. The goaltending wasn't horrible as both goalies came up with some incredible saves. I really can't blame Osgood for the loss more than I can blame the D. You can't let guys sneak in behind the D for breakaways (Lilja) and you can't let some guy split the D when you have position to play the puck (Stuart). Two D critical mistakes at a critical time. Can't blame Osgood for crap play like that.

Yeah, allowing both those breakaways was pretty inexcusable, but Ozzie looked really tentative in net tonight. Those were some great shots, but both those goals in the third were in the net before he even reacted.

  5. For me, none of the Sharks-Wings games have been the biggest of the season, simply because the loser in every situation has been at the end of a horrendous road trip. I think, atleast in the West, the back-to-back Chicago/Wings games were bigger, as both were rested, and the games were highly touted.. and look how those turned out.

I agree that the back-to-back against the Blackhawks was a big test for the Wings that we responded well to. But I think it's pretty clear the only team that can roll with Detroit in the Western Conference is San Jose, every other team in the conference is ten points back from us, so it's tough to see us collapse in a game we had a couple leads in. And you can really only blame so much on fatigue, I know it was three games in four nights, but the Wings did have a day off.

  6. Heh, it is now that we lost this one. Everyone forgets the 6-0 spanking we gave San Jose at the Joe so conveniently.

That's right, because a win in that 6-0 game would've put us ahead of the Sharks for the first time this season. Oh wait...

I didn't forget our shutout of the Sharks a month or so ago, I just think it's pretty clear this was the biggest game of the season and we fell apart in the third.

Not that the game wasn't extremely entertaining, but the performance of our defence and goaltending was less than impressive.

  7. Hudler was a mediocre skater. He has worked hard on that and is now a quick skater. He is an above average defensive forward and he is a very good offensive player. If he builds muscle the way he has worked on his skating, he might become the best forward in the league.

Eva, you make it very difficult to agree with you on the issue of Jiri Hudler.

That being said, Jiri's been awesome all year long. I find it interesting that the work ethic and attitude problems he was said to have a couple years back are absolutely non-existent in his game right now; the guy never stops moving his feet. And for such a small player, Hudler is pretty tough to knock off the puck.
