Ryan Reeves would be a low-key nice addition. Cheap (like no-brainer cheap) and gives this team someone to "keep the flies off" (as Babcock would say). We have zero in terms of any intimidation and our core players are small (for the most part) and get a lot of shots after whistles.

T-Minus 3 hours and 15 minutes. Please, please Stevie get us some help. For the sake of these players and the fan base mentality, let me be clear, it's a desperate need to make the playoffs this year. Our goalie situation won't get us past the second round, but regardless of stock piling picks and setting us up better for the "future", not making the playoffs would be 10x more detrimental to this teams psyche. This time is right now.
On another note: does anyone agree with me that Lyon has looked shaky, like he's got some major confidence problems as of late? Forget the stats, I'm talking about optics and the "eye ball" test.

Our coaching staff is trying to will Husso into being "that guy"...and I just don't see it. They are going to need to readjust their expectations on him. Yes, he plays above average at moments, but then has these breakdowns where he gives up really soft goals...like awful goals. He totally lacks consistency. Our D and back-checking is a weakness as well...for the life of them they can't seem to cover the trailing guy on rushes/odd man rushes. I've witnessed this at least 5+ times this season. Our D has numbers and both our D commit to taking away the cross ice pass to the other forward...and they drop pass to trailing forward that is all alone, not covered, free and clear for a quality shot. Frustrating.

It's a tryst of passion. Any Wings players have hot moms?....I'm sure they do...but nothing an STD rumor can't fix.

This. Do not want Larkin, Kane, and Cat on the same line.

Perry would help this team on a real area of need...bigger guy who's absolutely not afraid to get greasy in front of the net and pretty much anywhere on the ice. He's always been one of those players that I hate because of the way he plays and instigates....but also knowing that I'd love to have him on the Wings. We haven't had someone of his caliber in terms of driving the opposition nuts since Malts...and Perry is 4x the offensive player Malts was. I view Perry as a mix between Homer and Malts. Yes...on every level. Although is production has dropped off as he's gotten older...even at age 38...he is still a problem.

They should send Babcock to the homes of the players expected to go in the 1st round. Surprise

Last night was a reminder of how much I hate the overtime format. What a joke. 6 guys skating in a circle for 4:30 with :30 seconds of actual hockey being played. Lame. Let them load up 5-5 and play hockey for 5 minutes.

Did anyone hear Ozzy post game state that he thinks Larkin is likely the best player in the NHL right now?? I know he's a homer, but I was surprised he said that out loud.

The way this team is playing, you may as well bet on Kane coming here.
I don't know if I'd mess with this chemistry at this point. I'd be concerned that bringing Kane in would almost force LaLonde to break up this line to get Kane with Cat....for all we know, Larkin is a superior partner. Not saying he wouldn't be a good/great addition...but dang, how can you screw with this at this point.

Trust me...I hope you're right. I just see them improving this year and making it to the ECF. However, I don't think they'll win the cup, and I think they'll digress after this year.

Raymond scores 30+ regular season goals
Seider finishes regular season with 60+ Pts
The Wings are buyers at the trade deadline, but Perron is thrown included in a trade and no longer a Wing
Wings make playoff's as 6 Seed
Wings take the Leafs to 6 games and lose in ECF

I also hope we add at the deadline.
I agree....but i absolutely don't want a rental at this point. I'd be okay with a player we have on the books for next year.
Also, anxiously scanning the radar for Kenny to find and acquire the oldest big name player with ties to Edmonton to bolster their team....and overpay. It's like death and taxes.

Like Marc said; they have more value staying where they are. Under development by the Red Wings. None of them are finished players.
Agreed, but there is also a fine line (art form really) of dangling players to the market who look like they may have more potential upside and other teams acquiring them in hopes of getting more than the Wings have out of said player vs. keeping these guys in an attempt to get player improvement and showcasing them...when all you may do is confirm to other GM's that these players aren't very good. Sell what you can't see vs. Sell what we have....tricky and that's what good GM's are excellent at managing. I believe in some cases getting something for these guys now is better than continuing to develop or attempt to develop and confirming to other GM's that some of these guys aren't every night NHL'rs.

Weathered the early storm, scored a couple quick ones, then went into 1995 NJ Devils trap mode. Gotta have some fluid Dmen to break that. Eddog, Walls, and the Son of John should improve that area for us.
Agreed. There were flashes of the Left Wing Lock in the 3rd. Our breakout and first pass by the D weren't quick or precise enough to get through/behind them most of the night.

Don't you think that some team will take him at TD or next year as a 3rd/4th line veteran presence?? At the very least, he's consistent (consistently average...my opinion yes) and would likely be cheap$. I've heard some argue he's above average and plays the unsung hero role on the D and providing support to some of our young D that are still learning the NHL game. I don't agree. However, I think the Wings will try and move him, and if not, will def not take him on again. You gotta think he (and his agent) are going to push for another 1 or 2 year deal to play anywhere to pad the pocketbook. Most players today don't have much prospects of making big $$ after their playing days are over...yeah they can coach, commentate TV/Radio, yada yada....but rarely have big $$ opportunities awaiting after they hang up the skates. My gut tells me he's going to play and get paid as long as he can, for whatever team will pay him. The fact that he's an Assistant Captain will at the very least attract looks from other GM's for sure.

i honestly don't think it would have any effect on the 2020/21 season. Maybe I'm wrong, but really only a few teams would be playing that late into July as they move through the brackets. The two teams in the SCF would still have a month+ to rest and get ready for the next season. Maybe delay the start of the season by a few weeks or something..but these teams/venues/cities are going to be desperate to get people in the doors asap. They'll want the season to start as soon as possible due to losing months of revenue$ due to the season suspension.

Also heard nhl teams have been asked to provide their stadium availability through July. Summer playoffs sounds good.
Since the Tigers are...um...not good, it would be awesome to have summer playoffs.

Yeah agree. However, in this situation and if they suspend and go off of current standings....A LOT of teams that don't make it in the playoffs or have what they feel are undeserved low seeds will have something to complain about. Be it: we didn't get to play as many games as the other teams, we were just coming into the easier part of our schedule, headed into a long home stand, we were set to have top player(s) just returning from injury, etc. Some teams will feel screwed by this for sure, no way around it. What's the alternative though? If you cancel the season entirely then you'll still have teams feeling as if "this was our year to win the Cup!" and they're getting screwed. If you continue to play the season out then you're perceived as barbarians who'll be on cable news every night. I don't see any real "wins wins" with this.

IMO- I can totally see a scenario where the NHL suspends the regular season and ends up having the playoffs in April (or later) with either the top 16 seeds as of the day of the suspension announcement, or condensed playoffs with less total teams/seeds to to shorten the playoffs. Fans able to attend?...who knows.

In an effort to replicate what was done in Detroit with the Russian Five, Kenny has been secretly traveling to China to scout with the plan of shocking the world and drafting only Chinese players in the 2020/2021 draft, and creating thus what will be know as the "Mandarin Five" line, which will dominate the NHL for years to come.

Any opportunity to see a Torts post game interview is never a bad thing. Especially after a badly officiated game. As the young whipper snappers are saying these days..."that guy has no chill".

36 minutes ago, Neomaxizoomdweebie said:Holland, obviously.
It was all part of a conspiracy. They wanted to deliberately keep AA from success. Holland steps aside so that Yzerman gets hired as GM and keeps Blashill as coach. Blashill then deliberately plays AA on the 3rd line with guys like Helm and Flip to keep his numbers down, cuz what coach wants to play their best players? Then Yzerman trades AA back to Holland, who is now GM in Edmonton, so that he can also keep AA down in order to further the conspiracy without making it look like a conspiracy.
Or it could just be that AA is really just a 15-20 goal 3rd line winger who had one good offensive year because he cheated on defense. And now teams have figured out how to neutralize him, so Blashill tried to teach him to play a different way in order to be a more effective, well rounded player. AA rejected his coaching, insisting on playing the game his own way and trying to rely on the same tactics that didn't work anymore. So Blashill played him back on the 3rd line where he belongs. And now Edmonton is too.
IMO - AA is shaping up to be very similar to Maxim Afinogenov. One/two really good years, elite speed, defensive liability for most of his career except for his two good years, a pain in the ass to deal with from an organizational standpoint, and way, way overrated. I remember and article written back at that time stating that Buff should have traded either Briere or Drury for more pieces because they had Afinogenov.
I was HOPING that he'd shut up and take a page from his new GM's handbook on how to overhaul his game and become dominant at both ends of the ice. Could you get a better example of how "that" works with Stevie as your GM and steps away from mentoring/advice?? Dam. Also, with his +/- being horrendous and only one short NHL playoff round experience under his belt...I'd be really, really nervous about him being on the ice during a critical playoff game if i were a coach.
He's been in the league now for 5 years and not the "speedy youngster with such potential" anymore. He'll likely learn the hard way as most with his disposition do..
