700 Posts for a Sharks Game 7 Win

Couture comes out with the 'C', being the only Shark to avoid the word "confident" after game 6, and scores early in the third, just about sealing it.

    Explain This To Me?!?!

Out of curiosity, is it considered a penalty to initiate contact after a play is blown dead?

Positive Signs for The Wings in These Playoffs

Yet the only times Phoenix seemed to have a shot at winning in the third, the Wings responded well.

    Red Wing Tombstones

(What phrase or eulogy would you put on a Wing's tombstone?) I thought of this thread listening to Ken Daniels say the ubiquitous, "Datsyuk - still has the puck." Nobody can seem to take it off of him, why should the other side be any different. Anyway, what are your suggestions for any Wing, past or present? Think funny or poignant. EDIT: Sorry to the magical thinkers here that consider this thread bad mojo.

    Red Wing Tombstones

"Lot reserved for Nicklas Lidstrom." Classy start. I've always said we need a little more Keats around here. (Starting now)

Nicklas Lidstrom likely will be Red Wing next season, too

Even the 6 million was a cut from his last contract, right? And he has looked better this season. You can't have it both ways, he was never low-balled himself as far as I'm aware of, I don't see that continuing. Look at it this way, could you spend the 6 million any better? When you ask that, it starts to look more like the discount it is.

    Wings true +/-

I don't think the guy is suggesting that Datsyuk should have almost 70 points. The point is to compare players of the same team in terms of relative value. The point is to show how useful they are to the team in relation to one-another. Datsyuk, Lidstrom, Zetterberg are having strong years. But look at Holmstrom, Helm, Eaves... that's the point. Now, I think he rewards too much for penalties drawn and things like that, forwards are probably more likely to benefit from that, but it's interesting to see contribution in terms of more than goals for on ice/goals against on ice. The plus/minus stat is a worthless one anyway, why not make it a little less accurate, but taking much more into account?

TB ticket prices not going up

Read any preview of the last game the Wings played against them from any news source. That's the Yzerman factor.

Bieksa out two to three weeks

Out of curiosity, when are these injuries projected to affect VAN's team performance whatsoever? Any faith in that team by the fans is well-deserved.. I don't see many teams that could take them on and win 4 of 7. In my opinion, they have to beaten both on the ice and off, in terms of rest, fitness, preparation, etc.; then, obviously, execution. The alternative is breaking some bones, and it looks like several teams have that idea already.

2/9 GDT: Predators 4 at Red Wings 1

I vote that every Red Wing player should get at least a point tonight. Rebuttal?

The downside of every Wings game day is that I have to see the phrase "severed tendon."

    Souray too slow for Rangers

Nope, each randomly drafted Islanders player gets to sign an additional player. This player becomes their "bus-buddy" so that nobody gets lost or traded before an away game.

Frazen getting vocal about scoring drought

It sounds to me like he puts losses that are behind him, behind him, and he's complimenting the goalies on their shutouts. Maybe his intonation tells a different story, but I see it as a case of good sportsmanship.

Ducks Sued for Anti-Semitism by Former Draft Pick

What's more annoying, the idiots who attach significance to race, or the dumb-ass who made them feel right about it? His actions say it all about how he really feels.

    Weber and the Wings

To me he seems to be finishing on a strong note. Maybe the post-season will choose for him.

    2nd line center trade *idea*

It's a high-risk trade in that one of the traded Wings is bound to be an impact player, whereas Alfredsson is likely to slow down. There is something about the Red Wings system that brings out the best in players, particularly young players who are falling off track. I don't know if you could bring an experienced leader into a room of experienced leaders and expect him to get his head back in the game of hockey all over again. If I were him, I would prefer to finish my career in Ottawa. Finally, his team has struggled in the playoffs lately, and I attribute that partly to him. It seems that as Alfredsson goes, so his team goes, and in several of the playoff games he lost to Pittsburgh, he had a minus rating. The Wings are as strong a playoff team as ever (well, maybe not ever), and I don't think trading parts of the future lineup will make enough of a difference to merit the trade. You could say you're trading a potential series-winning goal by Alfredsson for a series-winning goal in several years by Hudler or Mursak (or yes, even Kindl). EDIT: I'm surprised Filppula survived a trade proposal, though.

    "The Red Wing"

I agree that you can't take this too seriously. It was interesting in the way that a horoscope is interesting, in that I don't think it will command much attention after their presentation at the All-Star game. Not to mention, I think we will see a familiar, but different Red Wings team after Lidstrom retires. Many of the aspects that he excels in seem to majorly impact the "Red Wing," except that I'm not sure where inadaptability came from. Hudler? How can these characters manage to stay relevant to the teams the represent? It would be interesting if major hockey events, like the trading of a captain, would influence the corresponding character, e.g. the loss of a lover. Profound events like this can result in powerful changes in mindset.

    Top Rated Defensive Defensemen

This system obviously makes sense. Clearly, the players Lidstrom plays against are 20 times better than those Martin plays against. This is because Martin plays a game with his kids every day, so the average skill level he faces drops dramatically. Lidstrom, more than any other defenseman in the league, neglects his kids significantly.

    Which Is the Better Team?

Over that streak they've played the Sabres twice (23rd), the Hurricanes (22nd), the Panthers (27th), the Senators (24th), the Flames (26th), the Rangers (10th), the Canucks (12th), the Thrashers (9th), the Blue Jackets (19th), the Devils (29th), and the Maple Leafs (28th). That's only three playoff teams, and then only barely. Over the next 30 or so days they play mostly solid teams, that will be a better indicator of where they're at. They're the most penalized team, and I think that will be one factor that will see them drop a little.

Datsyuk is one with the Tao. He rehearses the game, then everybody else gets to play it with him.

Why is it that the stream links to an old GDT? Will that be replaced when somebody finds a link? Thanks, whoever answers.
