$7.8/year for one of the top 3 defenseman in the game isn't outrageous by any stretch. He's been a perennial Norris contender the last few years and is just now entering his prime. Contracts given out to these players shouldn't be the biggest concern -- they're paid appropriately -- it's the bloated middle-tier that's concerning (see: Ville Leino, Dennis Wideman, et al).

I didn't even think about that but you're right. I wouldn't touch the C in Philly with a ten foot pole if I were him!
Hold on a sec. Weber's definitely worth 4 Detroit 1st rounders if we're talking the past. BUT with Lidstrom gone and our superstars all getting older we can't assume the future will be paved in low 20's draft positions.

He made significant offers to both of the top FA's available this offseason, they chose to play at home over joining the Wings. He is after the next biggest FA available and is waiting to hear back, and had preliminary talks with the #4 FA, who appears to be waiting to see what happens with Doan.
On top of all that he's had significant trade talks with Nashville for Weber, with Phoenix for Yandle, and even attempted to get Nash from Columbus.
He can't make teams trade with him if they don't want too, and paying extra just for the sake of making a major change is more likely to land us in the lottery rather than the playoffs.
I'm not sure what you're expecting, but this has been the most active Ken Holland has been in an offseason in 15 years.

What people also need to get is this will definitely create a domino affect, driving up the value for elite defensemen exponentially. Any hopes we had of trading for Yandle, Enstrom, etc. is all but gone.

This was the worst deadline market ever. NOBODY got a scoring forward, and the quality grit forwards went for a premium. I don't see why some of you are complaining. The fact that virtually no significant moves were made should indicate to you that the prices being asked for were exorbitant.

Gaustad and a 4th round pick for a 1st round pick.
Don't know about you, but I am glad KH did not make that trade. A 1st rounder for a rental 4th liner is not worth it.

Quincey for a 1st who is a top 4 guy who can replace Stuart next year.
    Gaustad for a 1st - who is a rental 4th line centre...
    Which was a better trade.

He is also better than Johnny Oduya.
People are comparing Detroit today to the rest of the teams today. Look at big picture. Quincey was a pretty big acquisition.

If Holland got Quincey today would you detractors still be saying the same thing?
The Wings added a top 4 defenseman for nothing. That's pretty good in my book.

Do I wish he had added some depth at forward. Yes I do.
But to say he stood pat and messed up the deadline...no. He got Quincey in to help for this season as well as long term. I think he did pretty well.

There is still about an hour or 2 where trades filter in. Deadline is for teams to file paperwork with league, not to announce it.

Considering who owns the team, shouldn't he get a hot-and-ready from Little Caesar's?

I thought a physical D-man who could play the PK was a pretty big need. That is filled by a 26 year old 6'2" 207 lbs defenseman who wasn't on Detroit a week ago...

Pahlsson has some good things about his game, but he's not the player he was a few years ago and is hardly a guy that makes Vancouver a much better team. Us picking up Quincey is probably more of an improvement than them adding Pahlsson.

Wings made deadline trade for Quincey last week. Which was a pretty high impact trade. If they stand pat today I am okay with that.

Lets try to stay on Vladdy here guys:
I am just glad to see he remembers his old friends and that he is on the walker and out of the chair.
I cannot judge the divorce at all. I feel bad for Vladdy because it must be hard on him, but I don't know what went down, and I can't dislike his wife for it at all. She stood by him for so long, we don't know what happened. I just hope to see Vladdy keep getting better, and I hope he stays a big part of our organization as a motivation and a reminder that their are in fact bigger things than hockey.
I remember how sad I was the day of the accident, I just didn't believe it. Glad to see Vladdy is a bit better.
It is sad that only Vladdy gets any recognition still form it. Mnatstakov wasn't a player, and was only the team masseuse but his story is equally tragic, and I would hope he gets similar support as Vladdy as well.

I would rather have Holland sit on the cap space than overpay for what some people are asking.
1st rd pick for a 3rd line center as an asking price...I would rather not.

russianswede919293 got a reaction from Ram in Kyle Quincey traded to Detroit in 3 team trade (TBL & COL)
Wings get a 26 year old D-man who is already familiar with the system who can play the 2nd PP unit and on the PK (both slots that needed filling). Additionally he is a physical guy who can dish a nice check.
He is a longer term solution too possibly who could possibly play with us and fill Stuart's spot if he leaves. Takes the pressure to over pay for a similar D-man in the offseason way off.
Nice move for this year and next year.

People are going to grumble about this because of the situation, I think. If we were adding a 26-year-old RFA with 30-35 point potential and he DIDN'T have a history with the team, people would likely be more receptive to the idea.
