    Which NHL Players Smoke?

Kyle Wellwood. Big smoker, and Big Coke Head. He doesn't hide it when he's partying back here in Windsor.

    Canada 10 USA + World 9

Canada Beat the US and the rest of the world in the AHL All Star game 10-9. It's just another feather in the cap of How far ahead Canada's development system is over USA's. Even with teh Help of the Rest of the World's best minor Pro hockey players, Canada Still beat them. World Junior's are yesterday's News, Canada's back on Top.

    Canada 10 USA + World 9

Good Point. You're actually right. You got me. This time, there's a point even I can't dispute. so I guess with American players being too good for the AHL, as well as the Euro's as stated above, and Canada's 18-19 year olds being too good for the WJC, I guess it's a wash, and although it's nice when your country represents you well and pulls out a win, neither of these games really count too much in the realm of international hockey. On a serious note, it was actually a really entertaining game, that Canada won in a shootout. There were no Wing Prospects there. I just noticed in the Grand Rapids section we were streaming the Griffins games. I've never been able to watch AHL games. Closest I had was when the Vipers played on channel 38? 36? Rick Knickle, David Gorverde, Phil Bourque, Peter Ciavaglia, joe DAy, David Goverde.....Those were some of the names I remember. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/display...rs.php?tmi=5494 all time Vipers Roster. Some names I forgot about, and some names I don't tihnk I ever knew about. Gerard Gallant, Shawn Burr, Tim Thomas, Miroslav Satan. I remember Samsonov playing here to get used to the North American game, and I remember Pivonka and Bondra playing here during the Lockout. CaN anybody deny those Jerseys? go ahead.......try it. http://www.detroitvipers.net/ - Turner cup Video.

    Maltby

Yup. Happy about everythign he's done for us, but it's time. I have a feeling someone else is gonna want to pick him up, and maltby will move on. It'd be nice to see him retire a red wing, But he's got enough left to help out another team in need of grit, depth and veteran leadership.

The Canadian army numbered in 1944 about half a million men, five-sixths of whom had volunteered for overseas service. Some of it formed most of the force that suffered disaster at Dieppe in the summer of 1942. Some fought alongside Americans and British in Sicily and Italy. But the main military effort of the Canadians began in June 1944 with the landing on the beaches of Normandy, and continued with the fight across France and into Germany Canada did not receive a cent of lend-lease aid from us. Instead of receiving, she supplied it to the United Nations. The total at the end of 1944 was some 4 billion dollars, which is more dollars per capita than our lend-lease contribution. On the economic side, the war placed a more severe strain on Canadians than on us. The average Canadian citizen paid more taxes and, on the whole, was subject to more rigid controls. He knows what the war cost and, let us be frank, he knew it longer than we did. From US written http://www.historians.org/projects/giround...da/Canada_6.htm As with World War 1, Canadians were not only considered expert and professional soldiers, they were feared by the Germans as an omen of impending attack. The Canadian forces were relied upon to provide defence on the high seas and over Britain, and to spearhead assaults for major battles. Once again Canadians had proved themselves on the battlefield and fought ferociously to win every battle they were engaged in. However because "The grim fact is that we prepare for war like precocious giants, and for peace like retarded pygmies"(Lester Bowles Pearson - Men `Zines) we should now try to avoid any other war at all costs because of technology involved today a new World war would destroy humanity. - ©James McAllister May 15 1998 Early in the war, Canada's commitment to the British-French forces in Europe was limited to one division because Canada's military deployment reached corps-level strength for the invasions in Italy in 1943, and Normandy in 1944. Over the course of the war, 1.1 million Canadians served in the army, navy, and air force. Of these more than 45,000 lost their lives and another 54,000 were wounded.[4] The suffering and the hardships of war affected many Canadians at home and abroad. Your 40,000 number was canadian Deaths. We had over a million people in the war. We were a Major part in taking back france and Going into Germany. US Came in when your government allowed Pearl Harbor to get attacked. The Attack on Pearl Harbor Was seen and warned about in plenty of time, not only from US radars, but also from the Australians. It was allowed so the government could show the American public that their country was under attack, and motivate people to get on board with the war and sign up, then later bomb the bejezus outta Japan. There is also some conspiracy theorists that say the US had a hand in setting up the attack, and wanted an excuse to use their nukes and establish themselves as the Number 1 global Powerhouse. Who knows about that, but the fact is, the attacks were seen coming, and warned about, but allowed.

Wow, Way to Summarize how the rest of the world feels about 2 thirds of the americans on TV that are the Same way. 66% of american is exactly this way. We've got 1 guy. Why do I Capitalize random words? don't know, habit. Canada does have an inferiority complex. Especially when comparing itself to America. It's not the US's Fault, it's ours. Don's point is that we should be proud of who we are, and what we've done, and the fact is, not many Canadians really know all that much about what we've done. Canadian history isn't nearly as emphasized in Schools as American history. Canadian Pride isn't taught/bred over here nearly as much as it is over there. It's not your fault. How many people even know about the War between Windsor and Detroit? in the 1800's Detroit was constantly attacking and trying to take over Windsor/Sandwich through Amherstberg. We defended time and time again, stationing at fort Malden. These Battles were not covered at any school I went to. Were they covered in Detroit schools? Probably not, because It was a battle that Canada won. I live right next to this great, historical battle field....you'd think the schools around here would make a bigger deal out of it. I'd imagine that when you guys in the US Study World War 2, the main emphasis is on The US's involvement, and you're pretty much told the war was going on, and then US came in, swept up, whooped some ass and won the thing. In Canada, we spend equal time learning about hte cause of the war, the background behind it, the involvement of Every Country, and about every battle. All Don cherry tires to do is to tell Canadians, you live in a great Country, get your head up and get over this inferiority complex we have. He wants us all to Wave a Canadian Flag in our front lawn, get behind our own military, and have the mindset that we live in the Greatest country in the world. Kind of sounds like the philosophy of someone very close to us. You wanna know why the world hates US so much? Because Everytime someone turns on American TV, all they see is one American Don Cherry after another. Now you know what it's like to hear someone from another country talk about nothing other than how they're the Greatest country in the world. I personally don't hate America. I love living in Windsor, just so I can go over the border and Go to Wings/Lions/Tigers games. I love that I'm close enought to get all the American TV channels. I wish out country was as patriotic as yours. I love the 50 different Identities all of your states each have. I love going down to Texas and Seeing the Texas Pride everyone has. I love going to New York, and seeing the New york Pride that everyone has. I also love when someone from My Country shows that Same Pride in My Country.

He says Stuff like that to try and instill some national Pride amongst Canadians. Canadians generally see themselves as insignificant, as USA's little Brother, and Barely a nation that can stand on it's own. Our navy is the butt of a lot of Jokes. We're gonna send the Canadian navy over to help in Iraq. The Canoe should get there in about 4 months. Canadians rarely take Canada seriously, and all Cherry tries to do is remind us that we do have our own history, we do have our own identity and we do have lots to be proud of as a Country. It seems like Every Single American can boast about how much greater they are than everybody else, and if you don't say that, you're not Patriotic. The second someone from another country talks about their accomplishments, they get Bashed. Can you prove american soldiers were better than Canadian soldiers in WW2? In history classes growing up, did you learn about Canada's involvement in the War? did you learn about the battles we were in, and the battles that were won because of us? I understand US dropped the bomb to end/win the war. I'm not saying either side was better than the other, but before you go and get offended that someone claims that they did more than your army in a certain war, make sure you know all the facts from both sides.
  15. Just reading the Internet, And Came across again what we gave up for Robert Lang. Tomas Fleischmann, a 1st rounder in 04 (Mike Green) and a 4th rounder in 06 (luke Lynes) Basically we got Lang and gave up the Highest Scoring D-man since Paul Coffey, and A good young 20-30 goal scorer. Possibly the Worst Trade since the Federko trade? I'm still glad we did it. We gave up a prospect and a late first round for who was, at the time one of the leading scorers in the NHL. I think it was a good trade that just ended horribly. You could also argue, there's no guarentee that we would have taken Green, but that's who that pick ended up being. Maybe it's just the BEST trade made by the Caps? Was there a worse trade Since Federko than this? (I'd have to give number 2 to Cheveldae and Drake for Essensa and Bautin) Edit : Worst Red Wings trade this decade

Worst Red Wings trade of the Decade?

Jimmy carson Was a 30 Goal Scorer. Again, In Jimmy D's Autobiography, I'm pretty sure this was the 2nd trade he regretted. But really, They were making a Push for the Cup. Adding 30 Goal Scorer Jimmy Carson, 30 Goal Scorer Tony McKegny, and Bernie Federko, a veteran, and All time Leading Point getter in Blues History, in theory could have been what they needed to get past the Oilers (If anyone Could get past the Oilers) Things just didn't happen in real life the way they should have on Paper. Maybe Going after Gilmour from St.Louis Instead of Federko and McKegny, for Adam Oates woulda made a Difference, But either way, Jimmy D was making moves that he thouhgt would put him over the top, and trying to do what it took to Win. I respect that. And I agree with eva up there....Jimmy carson led to Paul Coffey, Which was great, and then led to Brendan Shanahan, Which Led to 3 Cups. Jimmy Carson wasn't tough enough to be a Real Impact player in the NHL. Jimmy D took a LOT of flack for Taking Joe Murphy ahead of him in that Draft, And Jimmy Carson put up Solid Goal and Point totals up until he left Detroit. Although those trades still do look pretty bad, after all was said and done....they really wern't all THAT bad.

I never Proved there arn't any, I'm just waiting for one. It sounded from his post that he was one, then talked about his Canadian Pride. I don't know where he's from. I assumed he was Canadian. The "Better" team doesn't always win. If the "Better" team always won, then there would be an 82-0 team in teh NHL each year and a 0-82 team Every year. You can lose to a team that isn't as good as you, and still be better. Canada is not Better than the US At Baseball. US is not better than Canada at Hockey.

Worst Red Wings trade of the Decade?

Jimmy Devellano Made that trade. In His Book, he admitted it was a Bad trade, and one of the only couple that he regretted, but his rational behind it was that Adam Oates Wasn't tough enough to win a Cup with. As you saw throughout the Rest of his Career, Jimmy D was Right. no team Ever won a cup with Oates. You could chalk that up to coincidence, Or, Chalk it up to a man that had a Hand in building 8 Stanley cup Champions knowing what he was doing. Granted, He should have gotten more out of that trade, But I see His Rational. 2 years in a Row, We made the Conference Finals. Bernie Federko was the all time leading Scorer for the Blues, and Tony McKegney was a multi time 30 Goal Scorer in the 80's. Trade away a guy you don't think you can win with for 2 top 6 forwards, and hope that will help you take the next step. I think it was a good Idea in Theory, But the players he got back just didn't produce the way he expected. Some times you just get unlucky.

Classic American comment. nothing to add, nothing to back yourself up, nothing to do with the discussions, just a drive by empty insult. My Point is...... Who's Better at Baseball? Canada? or USA? I'd say without a doubt, USA. At the Last World Baseball Classic, Canada Beat Team USA. That doesn't mean canada's Better at Baseball than The US. On that day the Stars aligned and we beat you. In a 7 game series, I'd say we wouldn't have a chance. Or maybe our guys were just meshing at the right time, and US didn't put together the Right team. When Canada beat US, Yeah, It was Sweet, Yeah, we felt good about ourselves, but I hope nobody said that Canadians are now better at Baseball than Americans. Same thing In Hockey. The Red Wings don't win every game, We don't win every playoff series, but over the last 20 years we've shown a level of Excellence that allows us to Say Detroit is the Best Franchise in Hockey. Just because Pittsburgh Beat us last year, by 1 goal, Doesn't mean that they're overall better than us. They don't build a team as well as us, they don't rebuild/retool a team better than us, and they don't sustain excellence as well as us. If the Wings don't win the cup this year, it doesn't mean we're not still the best. If Pittsburgh Wins again this year, and again next year, And stays dominant over the next 10 year or so, they'll have something to say. Until then, it's Still Red wings, and it's Still Canada. Sorry.
