Agreed. I'm thinking he's going to have to be a part of a package deal. Maybe Kenny can even pull off a trade that can actually be beneficial to our team, besides losing Sammy's contract. That would be too good to be true...

To clarify, I didn't feel like you were attacking me. I was just trying to explain the logic I was using to suggest those players. I know sometimes tone is a hard thing to decipher when reading what someone writes, as opposed to actually hearing them say it. I guess my biggest reasons for picking Buf is that I think he would be relatively affordable, right handed and knows how to shoot. I think our power play is just starting to drive me crazy. The whole using a (normally right-handed) forward-on-the-point thing is not paying off too well. I really wish we could get a Rafalski type dman on this team, THAT would send us over the top.

I didn't know Yandle was so bad at defense. I mean he's positive in +/- while playing for the Coyotes his whole career, that has to amount to something doesn't it? Not to mention I specifically said we have the defensive defenseman and we need more goal scoring from the point. I suggested Buf because I didn't think he was too overrated, therefore he wouldn't demand quite as much, not to mention he's got an awesome shot and he's right handed to boot. I know staying in shape has been an issue for him but somehow he still manages to put up the points. I was merely sharing my opinion on who I thought could be a realistic pick up and have an immediate impact on our team. A right handed, goal scoring, defenseman on the point for our powerplay would help quite a bit I'd wager.

Up front? I'd say Thomas Vanek or Kris Versteeg On D, Dustin Byfuglien or Yandle. I'd say the most realistically attainable player out of these four would be Vanek. We could use a big top line, right handed shot. A right handed dman like Buf would be pretty awesome. I feel like our D is more inclined defensively and don't really contribute too much, goal-scoring wise. Also, Versteeg's favorite player is Steve Yzerman so he's got that going for him.... I couldn't possibly come up with a realistic trade for any of these guys though... I haven't been able to watch too many non-Wings games, especially Eastern Conference teams, so I wouldn't really know what would fit the other team's needs. Not only did they not go crazy, they fully supported their captain! I remember seeing Bourque fans wearing half Boston, half Colorado jerseys in support of his quest for the Cup. True, these are different situations, but it kind of sucks that fans are harshing on their longtime captain like they are. I personally would have supported Stevie if this were an alternate universe where the Wings could not win a Cup (or win that much in general) and he left to spend his last season with a team that had a legitimate shot.

In a game shrouded in superstition, I imagine there are some players who are not too happy about this. I mean you're not even allowed to say shutout until the game is over so I imagine planning a cup parade before the season even starts is gonna drive some people nuts. Leafs go 0-82 this season lol.

In Sammy's defense, Holland is the one who offered the contract. Both sides had to agree to a NTC. A contract was made that (shocker) ended up being a bad deal for the Wings, but it is a contract nonetheless and should be honored. Similar to Luongo in Vancouver saying he was surprised by the Schneider trade and that he needed to "take some time to figure out what he is going to do". How about you man up and honor that ridiculous contract you signed? Things happen in the professional sports business, such is life, but that doesn't mean that legal contracts should be completely disregarded. That being said, I think Sammy should take the high road and let Kenny move him. I've said it before, he's literally being paid to warm a seat in the press box. Now, with him claiming to be injured so as not to be moved, it seems like he's sticking around just to get money for sitting around eating Royal Swedish Snowballs. Who knows, he might believe he can actually help this team, which he could have, if he didn't get injured lacing his skates. Maybe he should take his constantly being injured as a sign that his body can't really handle playing at this level anymore. Also, it doesn't help that his cap hit is directly affecting Kenny's ability to offer Brunner a contract. I am never one to jump on the "blame Holland" wagon, but signing Sammy was a pretty bad decision on his part. In short, I am also pissed that Sammy isn't letting Kenny move his contract, but at the same time it's his right to do so because those were the terms that were greed upon.

Uhh...have you seen the regular season and playoffs? He the definition of a natural goal scorer. The puck always found him. He's one dimensional in that he basically has zero defensive game but his purpose on this team would be to shoot and score goals. I think the term "floater" gets thrown around too often in these forums. I'm not saying I think he's more valuable than Tatar or nyquist, it goes without saying that he is not, but how many successful shoot first players do we have? None. I agree he is worthless defensively, but what he can bring to the table for the Wings is pretty valuable. We have enough Clearys, we need more brunners.
