Well there still is that league-wide perception of the Wings being old....

Wasn't the OZ a snake-oil salesman hiding behind a curtain from Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion?? Sounds like smoke and mirrors. He has been proved human before. Should be a great game tonight and hoping my Preds are just desparate enough to topple y'all and deliver the knock-out blow on Sunday.

WQF Game 4 GDT: Predators 3, Red Wings 2

I thank him everyday!! Just liked I thanked John Ziegler for not allowing the Blues to move to Saskatoon in 1983 either when I was a kid in West St. Louis County!!! As far as the cash goes, thanks for that too! The BoG and the NHLPA agreed to it so that's their deal. Hopefully a better lease and local ownership to get more suits in the lower bowl will get us in the black so we can share our good fortune when the Loonie hits 60 cents on the US dollar again. The game should be protected in its homeland and also shared and allowed to grow into new markets. Legwand just adds more to deal with for the Wings that creates opportunities for secondary scoring for us. If it takes pressure off of our top line, then it can open up more scoring chances there and so on. We had some chances in Games 1 & 2 that we didn't convert and might have buried some of those pucks had our match-ups been better at the time.

WQF Game 4 GDT: Predators 3, Red Wings 2

That's pretty much how I felt since last night; but have to say that this is much more fun than last season was for us hockey 'hicks'!!! But if we can take one from y'all at the Joe... Legwand has always played like a maniac in Motown and we may see if he's the difference in picking up our first playoff road win. All I can say is that I'm more than happy to be able to use my tickets for Game 6 here in NashVegas to see my Pred's push the team that took the President's trophy to the brink in the playoffs in a season/year when we had to fight for our very existence as a fan base. Words can't describe what we have been feeling the last couple of months to what we have borne witness to. It's really been unreal.

Who will challenge the Wings for Central title?

I find it quite interesting to see how many of y'all think we'll be OK next season in Nashville. Seems that not everybody thinks that we've totally dismantled the thing. Our sucess will depend on d and steady goaltending much like y'all did last season and... hope the Vokoun trade doesn't blow up in our face!! I'm figuring we'll get a hard fought 6-7 seed for the playoffs and hit our attendance mark. But we have to play the games and who knows what the injury bug minions will bring us. The Blues should be better and make the division stronger overall and Columbus may figure it out or they'll be in Balsillie/del Biaggio trouble like us next in the near future.

    Nashville's days appear numbered

Will not dispute your logic on this one as I feel that this situation is evident across all of the major sports leagues. The problem is that guys that have made some coin in the business world think they can apply the same tactics to sports teams that got them ahead in business and be the man of the hour all of the time because they own the team. They have to really set themselves up to be more like a public utility that attempts to serve all and provide some benefit to all and make an adequate profit; not a quick slash-and-dash stock swap deal that nets them a billion for a few patented ideas in an emerging company. Hard to put the ideas in a few short words about some of the new owners; but think I got the point accross.

    Nashville's days appear numbered

You know, I've never been to a game in Nashville that hasn't had a decent amount of fans there and been fun to watch the game and the crowd. It's not like they are playing to empty houses; just some empty spaces in the lower bowl that are usually the pervue of corporations. Honestly brother, I've been through this situation 25 years ago in STL with a saskatoon group trying to take the Blues to the Canadian prairie. The Blues weren't exactly making money for their owners (Ralston-Purina) at the time and it looked like they were well on their way to become the Saskatoon Spittoons featuring Joey Mullen, Bernie Federko, Brian Sutter, and Dougie Gilmor. They weren't an Original Six team and didn't exactly have a lot of tradition in their 14-15 year history as of the early 80's. The NHL BoG nixed the deal and whom would argue that STL hasn't become a very good hockey market in its 40 years of existence. The Blues in the early 80's and the current Pred's organizations really are very similar in this stage of franchise development. If we can see this thing through, fight off Balsillie, and get local ownership like the Blues did when Mike Shanahan's group bought the Blues in the late 80's from Harry Ornest, I can see this thing really taking off and being a fixture till the big building on Broadway in Nashville, Tennessee come crashing down 40 years from now. It's not like there aren't deep pockets people here in Nashville. Climate's good and the taxes are low and enough celebrities to hon knob with.

That's the best reasoning why they shouldn't do this I've seen yet.

OFFICIAL Lets Go Oilers Thread of 3/27

We'll never know because of the HIIPA guidelines for hospitals and physicians to not disclose information publically on patients without consent. The only benefit to all of the injuries is the inclusion of all players on special teams to have them ready for the playoff run should players go down and Radulov getting signifigant ice time w/ Foppa. They are starting to click.... I could deal w/ a d-man going down with the depth there at Milwaukee; but we could really use a forward or two coming back to help. Really need Sully back to add scoring bite back to the penalty kill with his breakaways!!!

OFFICIAL Lets Go Oilers Thread of 3/27

Y'all are funny!!! I think y'all are as scared of us as we are of y'all!!! Hope our boys focus on Edmonton tonight and get 2 points and worry about the Wings game Thursday after tonights game. My guess is that this Thursday's game will be the last meeting of our teams for the season because I pity whomever has to play the Sharks in the opening round. They'll beat you down and fizzle in the second round from being too beat up from the first series. Big and strong; but seem to lack enough stamina to get 16 or even 8 wins in the plyoffs IMO. And I would love NashVegas playing Calgary in the first round simply because those teams dislike each so much. Otherwise I want the Stars if only for the Modano/Tootoo grudgefest of checks and hits that will ensue. Love a story that sells hockey to newbies and grow the sport by whatever means necessary to keep hockey in the South.

I would agree that SJ is not the team to face in round one; but they tend to look spent by round two. But where will they end up? 5 to 8.... Just have to focus on today and let tomorrow sort itself out right now.

    Detroit sports radio

I think a comparison to Cubs fans can be made. Especially since making the playoffs didn't take as much in the 80's as it does now. Then a .500 record got you in. I know because I WAS one of them till '98 having been transplanted to Nashville. Always next year and that one more acquisition to put you over the top.... Plus it's funny to see that y'all are also subject to negative media too. Seem like all that most of them want to have to have on is football and basketball anyway because they don't look as smart talking about hockey as those sports ( at least here, ATL, and STL).

3/13 GDT: Red Wings @ Predators

Lately it's almost seemed like a given rather than a prediction to be honest. Should be fun and a great game to kick the team into playoff mode!!! These types of games are why I fell in love w/ hockey!!!

Yeah, they looked god-awful at first; but they've grown on me. Plus since they irritate everyone... why not?! ;-> Hate that I have to miss the game by having to go to my in-laws out in the sticks tomorrow night (Winchester, TN) for my highly pregnant wife to go to a baby clothes event and my father-in-law dislikes hockey (among other yankee things; but likes the NBA for some reason [????}). Then again, hell hath no fury like that of a pregnant woman and their screwed up hormones!!! Maybe radio will help out of Huntsville, AL or Chattanooga. Hoping for a blow out and sending y'all home unhappy since I can't watch it!!!

Actually on the skits on the Jumbotron... they do that for every team not just the Wings and tend to over do the one's about teams in the division. Have you been to any games others here besides Pred's-Wings games? They really diss the Blues, Jackets, and Hawks too. Also we didn't just choose y'all as a rival, you became one by having the target of being the team to beat for so many years. Having all of the Michigan transplants in the area also helped that turning half the place red in the early years of the team, Not a lot of fun to be the home team in that situation. The Wings have had some high profile veterans that were getting long in the tooth in the last several years as well (Stevie Y, Hullie, Chelios, Larry Murphy, etc.) and why not diss on it when you have a system stocked with a lot of youth and skill to build upon w/ the fanbase for the long-term as Nashville has done. They are building a fan base for Nashville and not Detroit and want them to see a bright future of a team that will be here when they take their kids and grandkids to the games. On the pillar quote, I mis-read and thought you were saying the Wings were the pillar of hockey. The only organization historically that could make that claim would be the Montreal Canadiens is what jumped out at me. But a lot (not all either) of Wings fans tend to think all good in hockey begins and ends from the Joe and gets kinda old. I could see where people could take exception to something like that. Then again when I was a kid growing up in STL, I never found a Hawks fan I liked until I went to college in Tennessee. Guess i needed to grow up to see a bigger picture. Maybe that's also the case we have in Nashville in terms of hockey fans as well. As far as checking out the other teams boards, it's fun to see what they are into and who they dislike and what misnomers about us they have and maybe dispell some of those. We get a huge kick out of watching people come here in the summer for Fan Fair wearing cowboy hats and boots thinking they'll fit right in. Just makes them easier to spot as a tourist. Plus you get to trade barbs w/ other teams fans and find respect for each other as well. I also find myself on the Blues board a lot because I had a lot of history there too. But I live in Nashville now and the only way I'll get to have NHL hockey for myself and share it with my two kids as they grow up is to support it and the team in the community in which I live is why I cashed in my winged-note for the buck-toothed kitty.

No but a lot of y'all seem to act a lot like Dallas Cowboys fans used to in the heydays. A lot of them forget the hard times or jump on the bandwagon in other cities because they are the sucessful team at the time. I've met a lot of Wings fans that were cool and a lot that were arrogant and talked about how the Wings were the pillar of the league. Sometimes your fans are your own worst enemy.

Sorry you were treated badly here. Unfortunatley Detroit is a name in hockey that brings in fans that have a casual understanding of hockey from 'Slap Shot'. I'm a transplant here from STL and have seen that sort of behavior at Blues-Blackhawks games too; so don't just isolate that kind of behavior just to Nashville. STL fans can be vicious as I was formerly one myself. Idiots are everywhere; but you do remember it most when it happens to you. I never trash visiting fans personally; but will chide them a bit and expect it back. But also whenever I'm in someone else's building wearing the enemy sweater, I try to be humble and respectful because its their house. I've seen a lot of Wings fans walk in like they own the place here too. A few beers in someone makes them more apt to be beligerant and a Wings jersey and association w/ those previous Wings fans can lead to an unfortunate incident.

    Bob Probert

Yeah, we hated Probert in STL back in the day too. He'd just wreak hell all over us. Bertuzzi early on in VAN really reminded me of the Probert before he got into all of the off-ice issues. But then again, defenses wern't like they are now or in the trap-era and play was more wide-open so point totals then are inflated over what we are used to. Funny thing that I remember about Probert that always sticks w/ me was a playoff series the Wings played against the Blues (opening round; but don't remember which year) when he got kicked out for brawling along with another Wings player and 10 minutes later for whatever reason, the TV feed in STL had a shot of Probert and the other player in the Detroit locker room laughing, kicking back, and tipping a couple of cold brews down watching the game on TV. Was bizarre to see; but made me laugh and realize the guy had a sense of humor. Guess you had to be there; but just floors me when I think about it the way sports are dipicted in this day and age.
