  1. In the first episode of Red Wings SRD (formerly The Red Line on LetsGoWingsRadio.com), co-host Kevin comes down with the flu, so Mike flies solo while answering questions from SRD followers. Topics include injuries issues, prospect insights and early surprises and letdowns of 2013. To listen, visit: http://www.sportsradiodetroit.com/red-wings-radio/ To listen on iTunes: Subscribe here

  4. If you're not aware: the forums underwent an upgrade on 12/28 (part security update, part new version) and following that update forum members started experiencing various errors here. Sometimes the stylesheets for certain pages wouldn't load, sometimes the WYSIWYG editor wouldn't show in a Reply box, pop-up menus wouldn't work, HTML wouldn't be parsed correctly (on quoted replies this was most common), etc.. Today I performed some further updates to remedy these issues: a small database fix, re-caching the forum skins and then finally (tonight), rebuilding the updated template skins (Red and White versions) from the default template that came with the updated forum software. What's this mean for you? It should be the end of any issues you were having on the site. But first you'll have to clear your browser's cache. You can do so while viewing the site by pressing Ctrl+F5 (PC) or Cmd+R (Mac). That'll force it to re-load all of the site's template files: specifically the CSS and javascript files -- both of which underwent some significant updates and must be re-cached. If you have any problems after re-caching your browser please feel free to PM me or post your problem in the "Member Services" subforum (and include screenshots if you can,) Note: The site templates are visually no different from the previous look -- just changes in some functionality and placement (like the "share" capability).
  5. Registration time for the 6th Annual LetsGoWings.com Fantasy Hockey Buy-In Challenge is ready to tackle the rest of the season! This is a 12-team, head-to-head league hosted by Yahoo. Scoring and draft information is below: Cost: $25/team Draft: Friday, January 18th @ 8:30pm ET Starting Positions: 2 Center, 2 LW, 2 RW, 4 D, 1 Util, 2 G (6 Bench, 1 IR) Scoring Categories: G, A, PTS, +/-, PIM, PPP, SHP, GWG, W, GAA, SV%, SHO Prizes: 1st Place = $175, 2nd Place = $90, 3rd Place = $35 ___________________________________________________________________________ Right now there are invitations out to GMs that took part in last year's league. Returning GMs will have until Sunday, January 13th to re-register for this upcoming season. Starting on Monday, January 14th, I will be granting the remaining spots to new GMs that have expressed an interest to join. Once those GMs are sent an official invite they will be required to post the $25 team fee before the Friday, January 18th live draft. If you are interested in joining the league this year, please PM me here through the forums. I likely will not respond until the 18th, when the first batch of invites are sent out. Invites will be sent on a first-come, first-serve basis. There are 2-3 known open spots for this season, and those can be filled immediately. ___________________________________________________________________________ Attendance at the LIVE ONLINE DRAFT is highly recommended but not required. Remember, this is a buy-in league, so it's in your wallet's best interest to take part in everything. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask! Entry Fee Payment All GMs are required to pay the $25 entry fee (via PayPal). Unlike in previous seasons, I will allow GMs to register their team before making full payment. Payment, however, will be required before January 18th.
  6. The official LetsGoWings.com Open (free) Fantasy League has a small number of spots available for this season! This is as 12-team head-to-head league and the competition is fierce! Interested? Here's the details on this Yahoo-based league: Draft: Thursday, January 17th @ 8:30pm ET (Attendance Required) Starting Positions: 2 Center, 2 LW, 2 RW, 4 D, 1 Util, 2 G (6 Bench, 1 IR) Scoring Categories: G, A, PTS, +/-, PIM, PPP, SHP, GWG, W, GAA, SV%, SO Invites will be sent out in groups, so registering for the league is a first-come, first-serve basis and that space is limited! This is a long-running league, now entering its 12th successful season. This league uses the same scoring as the 6th-year Buy-In Challenge. PM me here through the site here to request an invite and please make clear the e-mail address you want the invitation sent to. (Invitation requests in this thread will be ignored.) Thank you and good luck!

    News from Switzerland

Ok, it's Saturday night, I'm drunk and despite my poor English speaking, I 'll speak about Swiss league. Tonight was the 4th night of our regular season. Davos vs Lakers: Nash put an hat trick with one assist and Thornton 4 assists in a 9-2 win. Ok, we don't care about them. So Brunner scored twice in a 6-3 win over ambri, à team from the italian side of Switzerland. For the people who don't know about Swiss, we speak 3 languages: French (for me) German and Italian. There is an another one but nobodies knows it: romanche. A mix between the 3. Very strange.
  8. To help pass the time during the lockout, the Detroit Red Wings and Farmers Insurance are hosting a bracket style vote with the fans voting on the greatest Red Wing Alum of all time. Each day, the fans will vote on one matchup between two players (32 total players). The bracket, shown below, is up on the Wings Twitter and Facebook pages. Should be interesting to see who the fans vote as the greatest.

    Brendan Smith NHLPA Interview

Talks about the draft and normal interview stuff. Decent interview. Cannot wait until he's out on the ice (when that will happen is up to the Hockey Gods).
  10. Hard to believe that tomorrow is the one year anniversary of that awful day. RIP to Rusty Salei, Coach Brad McCrimmon, Stefan Liv, and all others who lost their lives on September 7, 2011. Original thread - http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/topic/70433-mccrimmon-salei-on-board-russian-plane-crash/
  11. I've tried to use the search-function but couldn't find anything matching. We have the boring offseason and maybe another lockout looming so I've decided to take a look at all NHL websites and I must say, I am not impressed with our one. Doesn't look that bad but save for red/white and different background-images the page is looking exactly like all the others. I mean just LGW the site is looking fantastic, clean, simple and yet very modern why can't the site of an O 6 franchise look as good? Please note, not that I am saying it should be filled with flash animations, super gfx effects just a bit more modern while resembling while also having reference to the great history of HockeyTown. Why not hire some coders and designers to create a great looking one. Mr. I should give you a call Matt :-)

  14. Due to popular request I've added back the Red Wings news headlines feature that was present in the last message board version. This one comes with a few differences, however. You can see it by scrolling to the top of the page and clicking on the "Show News" tab. The page content pushes down slightly to display three different sets of news feeds: Detroit Media, Red Wings Bloggers, and Wings on the Web. The "Detroit Media" is a feed displaying the most recent articles from the Detroit Free Press, Detroit News, and mLive (Booth Newspapers). The "Red Wings Bloggers" feed displays the latest stories from The Malik Report, Red Wings Central, Abel to Yzerman, The Production Line, DetroitHockey.net and others (as many as I could get working -- some I wanted to add didn't have valid RSS feeds). The final "Wings on the Web" column is a Google News feed that gathers the most recent headlines across the web that are focused on the Red Wings. I hope you guys like the addition, which is expanded greatly from what the past version was!

    Forums Upgraded

As you've undoubtedly noticed, things look a bit different around here! The LGW Forums have underwent the biggest upgrade since 2010 and there are a lot of significant changes -- far more than I think I could meaningfully gather into this post. Many you'll notice as you continue to surf the forums as many of the enhancements are functional. Bullets: There are currently two "main" template skins, labeled "White" (the default one) and "Red" You're free to switch among them as you see fit by clicking on the "Change Theme" link at the bottom of the page. Removal of profile pictures IP.Board opted to merge the two into one avatar, and as of the last update I believe that remote-linking of images for avatars is no longer permitted (security risk). Speed The forums should show some significant speed improvements. Some of this is due to inline updating: Posts can be added to threads seamlessly. I'll continue to try to make as many speed improvements to the forums as I can. More integration with social media You'll see the ability to add topics to your Facebook/Twitter accounts. Rep System replaced with "Like" button No more +/- functionality as it has been replaced with a "Like this Post" button. Topic Preview When viewing the forum index (like 'General Discussion' here), you can mouseover a topic and see a dark gray down arrow icon appear to the right -- click it to expand the topic to view the first few posts before going to the topic page itself. TapaTalk functionality is BACK Some members have been clamoring for it to return as a mobile viewing option, so here it is. TapaTalk is now compatible with the forum (in addition to the standard Mobile theme that's also available if you're still looking for an easy mobile browsing solution.) Custom Topic Tags Options vary by forums and by member group, but there are now customized topic tags (or 'badges'). In the past it was limited to "PINNED" and "POLL", but I've expanded that to include "GDT" (for Game Day Threads), "SIGNED" for *official* signings, and "TRADE" for topics discussing an official trade. (Do not abuse this ability! It's a great visual aid for visitors of the forums and those that abuse it will be promptly suspended/banned.) Better Spam Protection All new registrations are IP checked against a known spam list remotely hosted and updated. This should help eliminate a large number of spammers that manually attempt to register and stops them before even seeing the registration form. New Profile "Statistics" Tab Just what it says: No see just how addicted you are to LGW by looking at your recorded posting habits by time of day and by forum activity. Gallery Link added to Profile A new "Gallery" tab has been added to your User Profile, for quick access to see what user's have uploaded and shared with the community. Topic "Tags" These replace the the topic subtitle (the smaller, gray text that was present on the last version). You can enter up to 10 per topic, separated by commas. Use vital keywords describing the topic, like a player name, team, etc., and it'll help catalog forum topics more efficiently to help search engine spiders and the search feature here work more efficiently. There are plenty more, and I'll add to this thread as I can -- right now I'll be tending to little bug fixes here and there that tend to pop up following a major upgrade like this. (Also, if any members see something I didn't mention, please feel free to add it here!)
