I've been looking for a German Shepherd puppy for a couple of weeks now. I cannot afford to spend the $500 plus for a dog with the full papers and such (I've seen them listed as high as $3000), but I want one that is at least mostly Shepherd.

I'm looking at a couple this weekend that are mixed breeds, but they really don't have as much shepherd in them as I'd like.

Does anyone here know anyone who has German Shepherd puppies for a reasonable price?

I'd prefer a male dog, but will consider a female that is good-sized. The dog has to be a puppy though.

I've searched the area's shelters, but none have what I am looking for. There are a lot of great dogs, but Shepherds have always been my favorite dogs...

This is for both me and my daughter, if anyone could help it would be great...

Vlad:

If you can't afford to purchase a full papered dog, I'd try the German Shepard rescues in your area - here's one I located but I'm not sure whereabouts you are in Michigan. (I just noticed the below site hasn't been updated for two years - but the gal may still have her email address running - so you can always email her and ask for recommendations as well).

you can also go to www.akc.org to look up breeders and the dog clubs in your area.

The rescues generally will ask for a donation to their foundation.

The AKC website is very helpful with both breeder recommendations as well as rescue recommendations.

Thanks...I sent an e-mail to the listed address and will see what happens...

I've tried the AKC Website, but haven't found any puppies through there (other than through a breeder which is $500+).

I found another shelter online this morning that says that they have a litter of puppies, I'm waiting for them to reply to my e-mail as well...

I've got about 2 weeks to find one for my daughter's birthday...hopefully something happens before then...

Update: Found a puppy...in fact I found 2

Now I have to make the decision....there are a pair of pups that I liked at a nearby shelter, brother and sister. They are a Husky / Shepherd mix.

I'm leaning towards the male, but I like the coloring of the female better...She seems to have more of the shepherd look while her brother leans towards the husky...

Plus she is quite fiesty (all puppies are, but she has a definate attitude!)

I put a deposit down today and have to decide Friday when I pick up the puppy after work which one I'm taking (unless the female is gone before then, I put the deposit on the male, but told them that I wasn't 100% sure yet...)

Forgot to include this...(this is the female)

I think you could handle another feisty female in your life, Vlad.

Let us know what you decide!

Aww... that pic reminds me of my Annie when she was a pup. She's part shepherd so the looks are somewhat similar and she used to cross her paws like that when picked up.

Best of luck to you with your new puppy, male or female.

We got the male puppy, the female was already gone when we went back.

He is quickly showing that he has quite the personality.

I'll post a couple of pics as soon as I take a few...
