theman19 47 Report post Posted August 27, 2005 we draft extremly well and have for years off bottom first round picks, could you imagine what we'd do with two? pull the trigger kenny, daddy needs a new pair of cup shoes.
Barrie 900 Report post Posted August 27, 2005 How much coin is Smyth looking for? Smyth plays the Wing, which will allow Zetterberg to move to Center.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted August 27, 2005 How about Datsyuk for Smyth, Torres, and a 1st?
norrisnick 1 Report post Posted August 27, 2005 How about Datsyuk for Smyth, Torres, and a 1st? Are you crazy? Getting two of those out of Edmonton for Datsyuk is pushing it already, but three? I'd take Torres and whatever else it would take to round out the deal (I don't think a 1st and/or Smyth would be that whatever else). peace

Lefkowitz 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2005 i'd say do it! i like Datsyuk but if we can't reach a deal with him then trade him for Smyth. i like Smyth's grit over Datsyuk's also, which is what i think the team needs. so Datsyuk for Smyth AND a 1st rounder seems like it would be a no-brainer. i unfortunately don't think this will happen. we'll see
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted August 29, 2005 Edmonton loves small fast players like Datsyuk, and Dats would be PERFECT with Dvorak and the other guys they have. If we have to trade Datsyuk, this is a deal I definitely would not mind, because Smyth is asking for 3m, which is about what he's worth. Looking at the Wings' cap number and Shanahan's contract, he'd probably take 2.5-2.75 so the team could keep Zetterberg as well. Especially since it would give him a MUCH better shot at a Cup. All that said...I don't see the deal happening. Imagine if you would though.... Smyth/Zetterberg/Shanahan Holmstrom/Lang/Yzerman Maltby/Draper/Manlow MacLean/Franzen/Mowers Fischer/Lidstrom Schneider/Kronwall Lilja/Chelios That's a pretty strong lineup. Especially with a versatile, all-around guy like Rivers to plug any hole in the roster when you want to rest someone. Why do you have Maclean and Manlow? They're GR bound...I'm not even sure that Manlow is signed I am not sure Williams playing fourth line minutes would be the best option. MacLean is a solid defensive forward and would be a decent addition to the fourth line. Manlow has a good amount of NHL experience, better offensive tools than bootland, and good size and strength. Manlow gets this year (or even just the first month) to prove he can play in Detroit..otherwise he's just taking up space in Grand Rapids. The guy is 30, he better be ready now. I would like to see Booter and Williams in Grand Rapids this year, they would get a lot more ice than they would in Detroit. One year, and they are in next season with a much better chance of success. Replace MacLean with Mcdonnell if you like, he's grittier and still a decent defensive player. Or, if the cap allows, take your pick of #13 forward and use Rivers full-time up front, bring Delmore onto the roster.

I'd take Torres and whatever else it would take to round out the deal (I don't think a 1st and/or Smyth would be that whatever else). peace lol...I figured while we were speculating... Heck, Smyth and Torres with no first would be sweet enough. How about: Datsyuk and Legace for Torres, Markkanen, and a mid-round pick? We lose Datsyuk, swap goalies, gain Torres and add 513k to the payroll (up to 32.513 with a 22-man roster) We'd then have two very good goaltenders for less than two million, as well as 5.937 million to spend on Zetterberg and an additional player. zetterbergfan40 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2005 Not a bad idea but torres isnt half as good as dats but it saves money maybe dats and lagace for torres markkanen and a first. I would definitly take that!
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted August 29, 2005 I don't know if the Oil would swap Markkanen for a more expensive Legace and Torres for a more expensive Datsyuk. Don't they have some sort of self-imposed cap of $30-32M or so? There must be a reason why Smyth hasn't signed yet (unless he's looking for a short-term, Datsyuk-esque contract so he can bolt for free agency).
norrisnick 1 Report post Posted August 29, 2005 Not a bad idea but torres isnt half as good as dats but it saves money maybe dats and lagace for torres markkanen and a first. I would definitly take that! He might not be half as good as Datsyuk but he's likely just as valuable if not moreso. A physical winger that potted 20 goals in Edmonton his first full time season in the NHL. He could be what Morrow is in Dallas and that would be great to have. Plus this wouldn't be a straight up deal. Something else has to come along with Torres, but nothing as obscene as a 1st rounder or Smyth. Unless Lowe suddenly contracted Satheritis. peace
beerandwings 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2005 I dont believe this either, however, I would think about Dats for Smythe straight up, throw a first in there and I would be psyched! Not torres, too iffy still. Would love to see Smythe with Draper and maltby.
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted August 30, 2005 I'd do it. My only worry at this point would be that since Zetts is still unsigned, a trade involving Datsyuk could influence his (Zetts) decision to sign as well. I'm getting a bad feeling that when it comes to Dats and Zetts, it's either both or neither for this upcoming season.

Trainwatcher 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2005 anybody that can translate this article on Hank and Pavel? the online translators are crap... Fortsätta i Timrå i vinter. 1) Nicklas Lidström Detroit Red Wings 56,7 miljoner kronor (7,6) 2) Mats Sundin Toronto Maple Leafs 50,7 miljoner kronor (6,8) 3) Markus Näslund Vancouver Canucks 44,7 miljoner kronor (6,0) 4) Peter Forsberg Philadelphia Flyers 42,5 miljoner kronor (5,7) 5) Daniel Alfredsson Ottawa Senators 34,3 miljoner kronor (4,6)Mathias Öhlund Vancouver Canucks 3,5 miljoner dollar UTANFÖR TOPP 5 Mattias Norström Los Angeles 2,6 miljoner dollar Michael Nylander New York Rangers 2,2 miljoner dollar Kim Johnsson Philadelphia Flyers 2,2 miljoner dollar Tomas Holmström Detroit Red Wings 1,3 miljoner dollar Marcus Nilson Calgary Flames 1,3 miljoner dollar Daniel Sedin Vancouver Canucks 1,3 miljoner dollar Henrik Sedin Vancouver Canucks 1,3 miljoner dollar Kristian Huselius Florida Panthers 1,2 miljoner dollar I går möttes Detroits största talanger i en välgörenhetsmatch i Umeå.
