Don´t know if this already has been reported...anyway...

It sure seems like Igor Grigorenko is of to a very nice start in the RSL... ANOTHER goal and assist in his last game making it a total of 3 goals and 2 assist in 5 games thus far... Nice to see him working his way back to the top! thumbup.gif

yea me either, maybe we can start a new set of eurotwins with him and zetterberg

I'm thinking more of the Euro-Triplets.

Filppula, Zetterberg and Grigorenko should make a great scoring line for the Wings in a couple of years. Both Filppula and Zetterberg can play C and LW, so we can alternate those two guys between each position, and Grigorenko should solve our RW problem.

Lots of speed, vision, stickhandling skills, shooting and playmaking. If we provide them with some big, physical forwards behind them on the other lines, then they could really take off.

As far as lineups go, how about this for 06-07....

Hudler/Lang/Shanahan

Williams/Datsyuk/Grigorenko

Filppula/Zetterberg/Holmstrom

Maltby/Draper/Franzen

Bootland

Lidstrom/Fischer

Schneider/Kronwall

Delmore/Lilja

Meech

Osgood

Howard

Do we have to call Grigorenko a euro-anything?? It just sounds stupid, and on top of that it doesn't make sense. Russia is not in Europe, and Grigorenko is from Russia. Look at a map.

And? Five out of 8 Samara, Russias are located in Europe including the only one I'd classify a "city." If you look at a map you'd realize that a hefty chunk of Russia lies in Europe up until the Ural mountains.

Extra bit of trivia, Datsyuk is from a city that lies on the "border" between Europe and Asia.

Grigorenko is from Togliatti, Russia. This city is west of Moscow, and is considered part of Asia. So, he is not European, and even if he was it would be stupid to call him a euro-anything. It's very uncreative and overused. Considering the bulk of players that come from Europe, it's very dumb to use Euro as a prefix. It would be like using "Ameri" to describe and American hockey player.

West of Moscow does not equal Asia (considering what you are considering Europe is West of Moscow). East of the Urals equals Asia. Togliatti is West of the Urals.

I agree the term is dumb, but not because he isn't European.

Great to see Grigorenko contributing again.

As good as his stats are, the key will be his skating. Igor's not very big (5'11). But he was fast, with good acceleration and strong balance. He was a tank, very hard to catch and hard to knock off the puck.

Given his injuries, there's no gaurantee that he'll ever regain the skating that made him one of the game's best prospects.

But these numbers coming out of Russia are sure a good sign.

Anyone else hear that his weight is close to 220?

5'11, 220?

That's tough to envision.

Most recent roster mugshot with Severstal.

A poster at another forum (this was during preseason tournies which Igor played well in) said he was almost as fast as he was prior to the accident he just needed to add more all around strength. His stats would indicate he can play just fine.

The also corroborated the nearly 220lbs story. That and Igor's closer to 5'10". Stout bastard. tongue.gif

Hes probably about the size of Lapointe...The Russian Bulldog. Hopefully with more offense though.

Before his injury he was considered a comparable prospect to Kovalchuk...if he's back to that level of skating, that's wonderful. His production in the RSL is even with Kovalchuk's as of last check, and his defensive game has only improved since he returned from the injury (relative to pre-injury)

If he's made as strong a recovery as some of this suggests....he might make the jump and be BETTER than Kovalchuk....

No way.

I've never heard anyone say he had even a sniff of Kovalchuck's potential.

Ever.

A guy people compare Grigorenko to his Richard Zednik.

That description also fits another player in the NHL. Jarome Iginla? Both have similar weight, although iginla is a couple of inches taller. Both can use finesse and have incredible strength.

I was trying to not push his skill value way above his head...he has already been compared to kovalchuk in this thread. huh.gif
