Hudler is definitely not a speedster. During the faster skater competition during the AHL all star game in Grand Rapids, Nate Robinson blew his doors off, then reinjured his groin. Jiri's not exactly slow either and is a decent skater. His nose for the net and ice-vision could allow him to survive in the NHL. Though if he does get caught along the boards by a lumbering goon... well, I just hope they make body bags in petite sizes.

Does anyone think Babcock's comments about Hudler in the preseason helped motivate him to play like a maniac? Basically he told him (and the press) pretty plays are nice, but not if they score goals. It seemed to me Babcock was being honest, not harsh and with constructive critisicsm. If you ask me, Jiri is answering the challange and that is great to see.

I belive Babcock did motivate him(I posted a thread on this). He was playing poorly in TC and pre-season; then Babcock had a little chat with him and that night he scored his first goal. Ever since he's been lighting the lamp.
Pain is just weakness leaving the body.

To be fair, Nate Robinson is faster than 99% of NHL players. Not a good comparison.
Red Kelly #4 and Larry Aurie #6 belong in the rafters!!!

Ah, that was your thread! Something about was Babcock too tough on him right? That was great. Now we know the answer!
No he was not too tough on him and Hudler is obviously tough enough to take it and do something about it. I don't care about size or speed anymore. You can by size or speed anywhere, but that rarely means size or speed will get the job done. This kid has something extra (call it heart or whatever) and I think we are going to see more of it. Bravo Jiri.

I prefer Jiri the Small. Goes well with Jiri the Large. Here's hoping we get a decade plus out of those two.

I just mean we have two Jiri's. One's huge and the other tiny. Kinda like Vlad the Impaler. I like those kinds of titles. Just a name and a descriptor.

Hmm. like super heros, no. Super Jiri and the Hoodlum, I guess because he's smaller Hudler would be the side kick? Thoughts?
