Son of a Wing

Anaheim not done trading.....

I don't think that Anaheim has anything that Detroit really wants.

Just for kicks though, if we were to trade with Anaheim, I would like more than anything for either Keith Carney or Ruslan Salei to become a Wing than anybody else on the roster.

You guys can come up with what we should trade for them, but defense really could use some help for the long run this seaon. I like some of the forwards we got, but we do need to concentrate more on defense than offense.

I'm not sure if Holland wants the two you listed but he definitely needs them.

Lang's salary equals theirs combined... Though 1. I highly doubt Burke wants to pick up one semi-expensive center for two moderately priced defenders. 2. If Burke were to want to move Carney and/or Salei he wouldn't package them both to the same team and especially not to a Western Conference team. 3. I was tought these things always had to be in threes.

Isn't it possible that the lack of "toughness" on defense is actually because the "toughness" that we're all used to seeing is now being called as a penalty? Even if we had a bigger tougher defensemen he still wouldn't be able to clear someone out from the front of the net without getting a penalty.

I agree that our D, with the exception of Lilja is pretty small, but it's fast and talented. Which is what everyone thought was going to be the best with the new rules. If we get a new D-man it's going to need to be someone like a younger Chelios. Someone who's tough, but also someone who can skate. I don't think Salei fits that.

I also think they need to stop playing Wooley, and give Lebda a chance to be a physical pressence on the ice.

Well with Fischer out now, does anybody feel like Woolley is don't any better now at this point of the season?

I haven't watched a whole hell of a lot of games recently, but I was just wondering.

Woolley was brought in to help transition to offense and the powerplay and not play a more physical role like Fischer did. So how could he have done better...fight someone? rolleyes.gif

Well Woolley isn't a bad player either. I mean the guy was moving up more than any defenseman did the year we acquired him. He scored like 2 or 3 times in his first two games as a wing because he moved up, which is now part of the process of playing under Babcock's style of play.

I like Woolley, because he's better than I had once thought that he was. And for those think that Woolley's going to retire, he's not. He's got hockey left in him. Woolley should be on the third line though in my opinion, but he on the second line of crushal moments.

Wooley will be around a long time. He has came a long way over this past season. Not been too bad.

He will be a wing for a while.

Any trade talks with Anaheim better begin and end with the name Todd Fedoruk. He's not a bad player, is a great hitter and good fighter, and great character guy. Brings so much more to the table than worthless Mark Mowers.

Even with that though, we have enough wings and centers on our team, and if we acquire him, who's going to take Mowers spot as the odd man out?

Anyways, I still say this team could use a defenseman than a forward.
