Manny played outstanding for Detroit tonight, regardless of this fetish everyone has of bashing him (or any other Detroit goalie for that matter). He may be a career backup and may never be consistent enough in the eyes of his coaches and/or front office to be an every day #1 goalie. However, even career backups play outstanding games every now and then- and tonight, Manny played very well.

Detroit lost because Nashville got behind the defense twice, and plays an aggressive penalty kill, as well as having a goalie play just as outstanding. That's it.

Good game. Three good games and it does look like a great series is definitely in store for us all.

The Wings goaltending was not to blame tonight for there loss. Where in the hell has the Wings 5 on 5 play gone? They didn't score a 5 on 5 goal in either game, relying on your powerplay aint gonna win you s**t if you can't score 5 on 5! Whats with all these odd man rushes that giving away lately?

flaming legace is an outrage, he has done nothing to deserve it tonites game any more than the rest of the team, he deserves it alot less. Some people are acting like he let in terrible goals tonite, which he hasnt even done all season.

So what it comes down to is that our goalies are mediocre, our defense takes too many penalties and allows breakaways, and our forwards cant score 5 on 5 or on the PP.

Here's the problem, in my own opinion.

On offense:

We lack a true scorer to line up next to Datsyuk. Shanahan no longer has the energy to fill that role. A good goalie is going to shut Datsyuk and Zetterberg down 9 out of 10 times because they just don't have the shot.

Zetterberg can't play with Datsyuk anymore. Too many cute passes and trying to deke out 5 guys, it just doesn't work, especially vs teams like Nashville that will suffocate you on defense. Hank needs some hardworking wingers on either side of him to force him to play his energy game - not Datsyuk's game.

Lang needs to go. The guy does nothing in even strength play and we've got so many powerplay "specialists" on this team, it makes no sense to devote almost 4 million to yet another one.

On defense:

Kronwall's just gotta get back into the game. Woolley has had a string of really bad games and I'm sure everyone is just about sick of him. I'm definitely wrong about not needing a physical defenseman. We really need a guy who can make sure the shots from the point get into our goalie untouched, deflections have killed us all season long.

Goaltending:

Ditch one of the stiffs and find a guy who can compete with the other great goaltenders in the league. If our 4th line sucks because of it, do it anyway.

Hahaha that is true. Osgood came up huge in the shoot out. Not saying Osgood is the prayers to all our answers, but dammit babcock better make up his mind and stick to it. This rotating goalie thing never works out, especially come playoff time. I can see it now Game 1 goes with Ozzy, game 2,3 goes with manny, game 4 goes with ozzy game 5 if necessary goes with manny, game 6 and 7 goes with ozzy if necessary. This isnt baseball, and they are not closers. He better make up his mind soon. Christ could we only all beg Scotty to come out of retirement to bring this team back to the promise land!!!

Couple of quick things about tonight's contest...

One, Red Wings still can't finish on a 2-on-1 (or anything else tonight, for that matter). Maltby sends a soft wrister into Vokoun's glove? I mean, are you f**king kidding? Props to at least getting a shot off.

Two, they picked a bad time to start slumping. They've got the jinx on 'em and it doesn't look good going to face off with a Canadian team Thursday. I swear to God I have no idea where these Nashville guys came from, but they've been up there all year, and now they've just blindsided the Wings with their superior play--all four points ON THE ROAD.

I don't think he necessarily played bad, but it doesn't matter, really--I think that's the last we'll see of Manny for a while.

Basically... just a big disappointment all over... Time to go back to the drawing board, eh?

I disagree. Datsyuk and Zetterberg are just fine. They just had two bad games along with the rest of the team.

The whole team doesnt need to be overhauled. The forwards have the talent and the ability to score, they just havent followed through yet. Our defense is the same. We had a decent PK but our defense is still too soft and weak. Kronwall will be a big boost.

However, there is no cure for the goaltending.

Let's just stop blaming Legace for the loss and look at the pathetic effort given by our offense and the stupid penalties taken by our defensemen. Schneider had three and Chelios had two. Thats way too many penalties for two of our top four defensemen.
