THis is a story that occured in Detour, MI which is on the Eastern tip of the UP.
I'm standing in front of the little ice cream shop. This guy pulls up in a brand new F-350 turbo diesel truck. He gets out with his family, locks the doors and sets the alarm. Blip, blip beeeeeeeeeep. Walks the seven steps to the order window (like he really needed to lock it let alone set the alarm) and proceeded to order "mak-a-nac" island fudge ice cream with an extermely funny accent. That made me curious so I casually walked around the back of his truck to look at his plates, I should have known, Ohio. Goofy Buckeyes.

Yup, I say Meijers. My Mom says Krogers.
In a 2005 study published by the journal Nature, researchers at Durham University in England concluded that, across a range of sports, we found that wearing red is consistently associated with a higher probability of winning. The researchers also suggested that red's effect may subconsciously intimidate opponents in athletic contests, especially when the athletes are equal in skill and strength.

HAHA, I actually saw a TON of Ohio plates when I was heading up north both in the summer and the winter.

Heh. Yea, you do. The accent that people recognize in Michiganders in the North Plains accent. It predominates in Minnesota, the Dakotas, and Wisconsin, but is also found in Michigan and Northern Illinois. It is much more common in the UP than it is in Lower Michigan, most likely due to the geographical proximity to Wisconsin, both you do here it further south as well. Right Manda?

When i moved from Detroit to Florida 4 years ago everyone was like WOW you have an accent its so cute! i was like uggh i do?! I never noticed it before but then when i went back to Michigan i guess i lost the accent a little bit and i noticed how all my friends and family were talking with that accent that everyone down in florida pointed out to me...so i was like WOW we really do have an accent!
I think accents are cool though it distinguishs you from another person and shows where your from!

People in Cincinnati are always pointing out my accent. People ask me to say: car, large, barge, etc. It is a vowel thing I think.
