- The Calgary Flames need a first line centre to play with Jarome Iginla. TSN suggests defenceman Jordan Leopold or junior forward Dustin Boyd to bring in such a player.

now i know it doesn't say anything about the red wings, but how about robert lang for jordan leopold? sounds like a good deal to me. what do you girls think?

Nope, playoff teams don't trade with other playoff teams in their same conference, especially when it involves players like Robert Lang. If you think about it, it makes no sense, the Flames missing piece is a #1 center and you want to give them one? What if we meet them in the playoffs? We don't need another defensemen as bad as they need a #1 center.

I don't know. Your point is pretty valid, but Jordan Leopold would be effective on the Wings.

Jordan Leopold would be the third, perhaps even fourth best offensive defenseman on the Wings. And of those four, he would be the worst defensively. Only Nick Lidstrom is less physical out of those four.

Robert Lang is more helpful to the Wings than Leopold would be. But he would be a TON more helpful to the Flames. Leopold barely cracks the Flames' top four and is not a huge factor....Lang would provide major offensive punch to a team that needs it.

Yes, Leopold would be a solid pickup for the Wings' future plans, and Lang is rather old. But the Wings can get a decent young defenseman without seriously strengthening a rival a month before the playoffs, when that defenseman would not be an asset in the immediate future.

If we traded Lang for a young defenseman, I would rather see a Lang trade picking up someone from the East, or a non-playoff team from the West. And I would rather see a defenseman more in the style of Fischer...a big, strong guy who is solid defensively. If possible, mobile like Fischer with puck skills like Fischer...but that is not too common.

effective, yes. but do you seriously want to hand over a #1 center to dish iginla the puck on a silver platter? that's all they're missing, it's why they've struggled this season. Our defense has been top notch all year long, Leopold won't help us AS MUCH AS Robert Lang would help the Flames.

Your overrating Jordan Leopold's value, cuz trading Lang for him straight up is crazy. Especially with the Flames needing a true #1 center whose a playmaker. But that doesn't mean it couldn't be done.

To Flames

Lang - D

Woolley - D (make em eat him)

To Wings

Jordan Leopold - D

Marcus Nilson - C/RW

5th round in 06

Agreed Heaton.

Making that kind of trade could come back and bite us in the ass.

I think that team is fine. If Holland makes a move, it's for the best. I trust Holland every year to get us to the Finals.

You must've quoted the wrong person.

I think they should look at Lang for Dmac and Leapold, then package someone like Lebda and Hudler for a #2 Center from another team.

We bought out McCarty, we can't get him back this year.

Cmon.

McCarty wouldnt crack this years lineup. Sure, we all love him and are thankful for all he did for this team over the years. But he would have no value and no playing time on THIS team.

And Leopold isnt the kind of defensman the Wings need. They have MORE THAN ENOUGH offensive style defensmen. They need a bruiser.

For real?  That blows!  Even through a trade, huh?  Blowman is a bastard, does his contract ever expire or are we stuck with him forever?

Blowman? You mean the guy who brought 3 Cups to this team in the past decade? Way to be appreciative.

And, Bowman had nothing to do with McCarty being bought out. He hasnt been the coach or GM of this team since 02.

Try to keep up, will ya?

Pretty sure he's talking about Bettman, but he couldn't find of a word that rhymes with bett.
