Well, if Holland actually does want a faster/better forechecking team, Gionta wouldn't be a bad move.

I don't know what to say. He is the softest 6'6 player in the history of the game. He is anything but gritty and at times doesn't play hard. I'd even take gionta over the eric daze of 3-4 yrs ago.

Daze of five years ago was a 38-goal, 70 point forward.

Daze may not play a super-dominant physical game, but his physical game is underrated due to his impressive size. I would say that Daze has been a more gritty and physical player than Shanahan has for at least the past few seasons.

As a player, I have always liked Daze. He has great size, is a decent skater, excellent shot, plays a physical game, and is not as much a defensive liability as a lot of guys with similar size or scoring ability. Sure, the two biggest knocks are that he isn't Todd Bertuzzi circa 2003 and that he isn't Kris Draper as far as pumping his skates all the damn time.

But you know what?

This team would be beter off having Daze than not having him, if only in a Holmstrom-type role player/PP specialist role.

I would absolutly love for us to get a player of this calibor. With NJ looking for shed some cap space it really wouldnt suprise me if they were shopping around some of there players.

I would love to see Gionta in a wings jersey this year. The guy has balls, can score, and is a hell of a passer. This team lost a 40 goal scorer in Shanahan this offseason, why not add a 48 goal scorer. Makes perfect sense.

Are you serious? DAZE??

Okay, I will give you that Daze does have great size. Saying he's a decent skater isn't so much a compliment as it is saying he isn't a complete turd out there like Bootland when it comes to getting up and down the ice. He does have a good shot, got to to get the amount of goals he USED to get. However, I don't think Daze should or could ever be described as a "gritty" player. And to say he's been grittier and more physical than Shanny the past 5 years makes me want to shove my Sherwood up your .........................................okay, sorry, I lose my temper sometimes.

First off, Daze has played a whopping 74 games the past 3 years. Can than be right? Can he really have played less than 1 season the past combined 3 seasons? Not too mention he had a full year off and still only played in 1 freaking game last year. A guy who can't touch Shanny's scoring prowess with a 10 foot pole. A guy who hasn't racked up more than 36 PIM's in any season in his whole career. You're telling me the past 5 years that this guy has played with more grit and been more physical than Shanny?

Dude, after reading your post I had to look at the Calender to make sure this was September and not April.

Daze is the early version of Glen Murray. And if you tell me Glen Murray is gritty and physical i'm going to puke.

You don't average 20 PIM's a year by being physical and gritty. Sorry, it is an utter contradiction. One cannot hit, crash, bang, muck, stick up for teammates, maybe fight and get into scrums and be nasty when need be and average 20 measley PIM's a year.

my bad on the 5 years. you said "few" years, not 5 years. However, that changes nothing.,

Most people on LGW have said Shanny has been totally soft the past few years. While Daze is not Probert, he's not totally soft either. And are you saying you'd rather have Bootland or Kolanos as the 13th forward than a healthy Daze if it came down to it? A healthy Daze would be nothing but an asset--at worse, he'd be comparable to Kolanos but with more experience. At best, he's a guy capable of playing on a scoring line and lending a big strong body and a good shot to either wing.

Oh, a HEALTHY DAZE. Now that's a different story. A healthy Daze might be a nice pickup. The problem is Daze hasn't been healthy since about 2002.

Daze makes Dominik Hasek look like Cal Ripken when it comes do durability. I'm not banking on Daze pretty much ever playing again and if so, not with much effectiveness. It's unfortunate b/c he's not a bad player, he's been a really good player in fact, but you cannot ignore that back of his. His problems are chronic and pretty much career threatening and have been for years. It just doesn't look good for him IMO.

If we even bothered to look at him he'd have to pass a physical and who would wager money on him being able to pass these days? Not me.

Daze...oh god. Eva Im with you too a point. But (and as well all know) that guy is done. And though I was a huge supporter of bringing him in Im glad we didn't...70+ games in 3 years is beyond words.

But you don't disagree that (at least at the time of my initial posting) taking a look at Daze would have been a good idea? He's only 31--he wouldn't count on the cap for long term injury--and if he actually was healthy, the worst he could be is an upgrade over Kolanos/Hussey at #13.

uhhh I really don't know what to say here I mean I see what your saying...but the point is this...fact is fact.

1. Hes done.

2. He's worse than freakin Eric Lindros when it comes to the IR.

3. You heard be on 2. WORSE THAN ERIC LINDROS.

4. People bashed a few of us for bringing up getin Lindros in the white and red, I guess in their defensive rightfully so. Ok fine. But Daze? Dude. People think the Barnsy boys drink from some F-ed up coolaid...Im sorry man but yours is worse. Eric f*cking Daze...the guy who actually hasn;t played a full NHL season since...2001-2002. Gonna take a huge pass and just write this thread off to either drinking or a joke. Sorry but very true.

Detroit will manage without Giontas 40+ goals.

I'm saying we can do without for now. Goals is not a problem during the regular season.

Ummm... Goals do seem to be a problem now. If this keeps up, the regular season may be all we get this year.

What happened to the forward Kenny was supposed to sign? Nothing. A 20 goalscorer would have been enough.

Detroit will still make the playoffs. You can win games by allowing the opposition to score less goals than you. Like they did vs SJ last night.

No team has ever lost a game by having too many goals.

All you're doing is freaking out over a slow start... not going to get you anywhere. Zetterberg and Datsyuk need to get on their game, and they will, once that happens, a lot of things will start clicking better, but it is true that teams can win with a defensive style of game. See Edmonton last season, look at the games they beat us in, a lot of 3-2, 2-1 type games... I'm not saying I want this or that I even believe we'll play like that, but it is possible.

Our forwards will only click more and more as the season goes on, some line changes will help too to keep certain players fresh and motivated. We are just fine.
