Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted October 2, 2006 Oh my god...if going through what i did yesterday is an indication of how im gonna be come playoff time, i better get some on medication or something! Full blown butterflies, sweating, hands over the mouth, rocking back and forth...i had it all going on in those latter innings. Oh well, no use complaining. We're in the f***in playoffs!!! Ive heard some criticism over the choice of Robertson in gm1, and i gotta say, i actually really like the choice. I'd much rather see the bulldog mentality of Nate in Yankee stadium than i would Rogers. I think he's a perfect choice, and actually the one im most comfortable with pitching there out of the 5. BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted October 2, 2006 I believe Rogers has a poor record at Yankee Stadium as well.

Nate has been FANTASTIC over the past 2-3 months. Should be no criticism, he didn't get the run support. Come back with Bondo, Verlander, and then Kenny to close out the series. Van Slyke came into work the other day, wanted his clubs regripped. He does not even have hands, he has paws. I'm still waiting on Chauncey, I guess he stopped in a couple times. I mean of all the guys in the staff, i have reasons to be scared of them pitching in Yankee stadium...all except for Nate. Rogers sure as hell makes me nervous there, but not at home.No matter what happens i think this was the best decision.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted October 3, 2006 What I don't understand is why all of a sudden people think Rogers is being held back so he won't have to pitch at Yankee Stadium?? Since when has Leyland given a rat's ass about stuff like that? Rogers is being held back because he pitched Sunday, not because he's afraid of the Bronx! But then again Leyland also gave us the impression over the last week that the rotation of the playoffs would be first and foremost on his mind after the Tigers clinched. It seems if Rogers was to be his guy for gm 1he wouldnt have juggled everything up by using him Sunday. He may have wanted Nate all along.

It seems if Rogers was to be his guy for gm 1he wouldnt have juggled everything up by using him Sunday. He may have wanted Nate all along. Leyland was managing to win that game, not to preserve his rotation for the playoffs. He'd used up most of his bullpen the game before, including long relief specialist Grilli, and Rogers was the starter with the most rest. Had Leyland been thinking about preserving his rotation, he'd have had a position player out there on the mound and simply punted the division title.

I dont have any direct quotes but the jist last week was that they'd like to win the division, but the playoff rotation would be his #1 priority. From that standpoint it just doesnt make alot of sense to use Rogers if he was his penciled in Gm1 guy considering he had Mike Maroth at his disposal (who had even briefly warmed up earlier in the game actually) So it wasnt an emergency situation. Maroth, not even being on the playoff roster, couldve gone for more than a few innings.. Edited October 3, 2006 by Lou_Siffer
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted October 3, 2006 I've never approached a baseball game with this kind of anticipation! So this is what it's like to actually care about the baseball postseason the same way I do the NHL playoffs. Had this game on my mind all day. And so far, it's been a visitor's kind of day with the A's and Cardinals winning. Let's hope that trend continues. LETS GO TIGS!!!!!
RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 I used to watch the Tigers alot when I was a kid (and went to alot of games). I was considering "bandwagoning" with the Tigers, but I'm not sure I can take another Detroit team collapsing in the playoffs. Game 1 vs the Yankees is almost all but done (5-0 Yanks). I only casually know the players on the Tigers, but this pitcher stinks. Plus, like everyone, I hate the Yankees - so this might be just too ugly for me to watch. Hope not - other underdog teams have beat them in recent years, but it's looking bad right now.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 One bit of solace we can all take in the loss... Mike Myers' postseason ERA right now is INFINITY. Nice thought.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Tough loss, but at least the bats are working. I might have despaired had Wang held the Tigs down, but they're hitting, and making the Yankees sweat a little. So there's definitely hope for the future here. Must get a great game from Verlander tomorrow, because I think the Tigers can put up another four or five runs. Edit: Mike Myers, the same Mike Myers who gave up a home run tonight, was a Tigers pitcher once and set a club record, which I'm almost positive he still holds. Anyone have any guesses? BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 You have to wonder how the game might have changed if Damon didn't get that infield hit in the 3rd.

betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 You have to wonder how the game might have changed if Damon didn't get that infield hit in the 3rd. I don't really think so. They tagged Robertson that inning anyway. I think they'd have just scored 4 instead of 5. The Tigers hit well, but it's the missed opportunities at the plate that did them in. Polanco, Maggs, and Inge all killed rallies with two runners on. Still, I like our chances, we just have to get to Mussina. And I like the matchups in Detroit. BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 I don't know. I remember thinking to myself that Jeter should have been called out on strikes in the third, but was given a 4 inch strike zone since he's Jeter. No matter though, water under the bridge now. The Tigs are going to have to come out hitting tonight though. Mussina usually gives them trouble.

I remember thinking to myself that Jeter should have been called out on strikes in the third, but was given a 4 inch strike zone since he's Jeter. Yea, yea, that, yea, was ridiculous. Even though it was a tailing fastball it still went over majority of the heart of the plate. At WORST it was inside corner. I mean Pudge's glove did not move when he caught that ball. Must be nice to have the umps under contract as well. But, hey, as long as any team plays in Detroit they should expect to get f***ed over by the refs / umps.
