Hogs winger collects four goals in Rockford’s 10-4 win

Muskegon, Mich.- It was snowing outside of the L.C. Walker Arena in Muskegon, Mich. on Saturday, but there was a blizzard on the inside. The Rockford IceHogs beat the Muskegon Fury in record fashion, tying a team-record with 10 goals in a 10-4 rout. Winger Robin Big Snake led the way with team-record tying four goals and he added two assists and a pair of fighting majors. Winger Bryce Cockburn added four helpers in the Hogs win.

Rockford exploded in the first period and put up four goals before the intermission. Robin Big Snake began the barrage at 3:35 when he buried a perfect setup from Mike Dole and Cockburn for his first goal of the night. Then with Muskegon on a power play it was Rockford who capitalized. Winger Jason Ralph forced a pass to the neutral zone and set up Hogs center Preston Mizzi for his team-leading 19th goal of the season at 12:50. The goal also made Mizzi the IceHogs most productive goal scorer, surpassing Mike Figliomeni with 69 career goals, and the Hogs career leader in short-handed tallies with five.

Big Snake pushed the IceHogs lead to 3-0 when Cockburn set him up for a breakaway goal at 14:22, his 12th of the season. Muskegon responded with its only goal of the frame at 15:33. Winger Ryan Barnes deflected in a cross-ice feed from Kevin Cooper past Frederic Cloutier making it 3-1. The Hogs got it back, however, at 16:15 when center Kevin Ulanski followed Jesse Bennefield’s breakaway rebound and beat Clayton Pool for his 16th goal of the campaign.

Muskegon closed the gap to 4-2 when defenseman Phillipe Plante chipped in a Cloutier rebound at 5:40 to open the scoring in the season period. Rockford proceeded to pile on four more in the middle frame to break the game open. D-man Corey Hessler continued the Hogs flurry of goals when he fired in a pass from Mizzi at 7:01.

Bennefield would get into the goal-scoring act at 8:27 after Ulanski set him up for his 19th goal of the season chasing Pool from the game and matching Mizzi for the club lead. Fury goalie Ryan Cyr was greeted rudely as Big Snake finished off his hat-trick, the second of his career, at 9:00 assisted by Doyle and Cockburn. Blueliner Nathan Lutz finished the second period scoring when he blasted in a 5-on-3 power-play tally at 16:52.

The scoring didn’t let up much in the final period. Muskegon netted its third goal of the evening when Bill Zalba beat Cloutier 4:58. Big Snake retaliated for the Hogs to complete his record setting night when he banked a Lutz blast past Cyr at 6:40. Bennefield picked up his second tally of the night and team leading 20th goal of the season on a breakaway, tying a Hogs team record for most goals in a game with 10 at 17:28 of the third. The Fury grabbed one more tally before the final horn when Chase Trull lit the lamp at 19:51.

Rockford outshot the Fury 40-24 in the blowout win and Cloutier picked up his 21st win of the campaign. The Hogs finished the game 2-for-7 on the power play while Fury were held to 0-for-2.

He won both his fights aswell.

Other than the running-away winner of the prize for Best Native American / Porn Star Name, who is Robin Big Snake?

Yeah you gotta love that name, he was a camp tryout who played in the rookie tournament 2 seasons ago, he got alot of media attention when he was here. Alot of people wanted the Wings to sign but they never did, he gave an interview after camp and he said that the Wings told him to work on his game and that they would keep an eye on him and see how he progresses. The game was in Michigan last night and he certainly put on a dominating show, both with his fists and with his play.

The first person who says something about needing this guy for grit, I will personally go, buy a plane ticket, head over to where you live and lay you right out. If you say it, you better be from Windsor/Detroit, makes it easier for me.

The Wings need this guy for grit. I live in Myanmar. You'll need to take a mule train over the mountains to my village. The house is the third on the right, 350km S/SE from the international airport.

Whoops, better change my profile info.

Anyway, what league does this guy play in?

I'm getting tired of all the bloodshed,

Will SOMEBODY please invite Robin Bigsnake to camp this fall.

He can stay at my place in T.C.!

I believe he is with the Owen Sound Attack these days.

He's way too old to play in Juniors. He spent the 06-07 with the Rockford IceHogs of the UHL and also played one game with Nashville's AHL affiliate in Milwaukee.

It would be one thing if he was even good enough to make it at the AHL level, but seeing as though Big Snake is a UHL player, which has become more of a place for fighters who don't have NHL jobs anymore to go and play out their careers, he isn't good enough to even be considered. Maybe 5 years ago when even the worst players who could fight ran around in the league, but not anymore.

Big Snake is playing in the UHL now, but living just outside of Saginaw and going to many Spirit games Big Snake was a player that stood out like none other. Granted the Spirit don't fight the most anytime the Attack were in town he was always wiping the ice with whoever the "enforcer" on the Spirit was that season. But, as interesting as he was to watch I wouldn't put a ton of stock in ever seeing him play for the Wings.

He's Native American. I used to watch him all the time when he was a Winterhawk - he was a fan favorite and a stand-up player, but he wasn't really that, you know, good. I haven't seen him since he left Portland, but the guy got made a pylon more times than Britney Spears's failed out of rehab.

I had the "pleasure" of seeing Big Snake play for the Texas Brahmas against the hometown Austin Ice Bats last night.

I have to say, when I saw his name on the opposing roster, I was a bit excited. After reading on here about how much he fights, and how gritty he is, I was glad to get a chance to see it for myself.

All I saw last night, though, was Jordin Tootoo with less skill.

The Earthworm, as he was called by the home fans, did nothing but take cheap shots all night, run the Bats' goalie, and then refuse to fight. There was a sequence in the 2nd, after he pulled the skate out from under the goalie as he skated by, that 3 separate Ice Bats attempted to engage him in a fight. He just refused to go. The Bats ended up having to take a penalty for crosschecking him up high and driving him into the ice. He laid there like he'd been shot till he was sure the penalty had been called, and then hopped right back up, and skated to the bench.

He's gonna have some issues in this league. I can already tell that the 2 Bats' fighters\enforcers are going to have some words for him the next time he comes to town.
