...ok, as you all know, I am historically critical of European players. I probably always will be too, but I just have to tell you and yes, put my foot right down my throat, I am beginning to see just how special Henrik is.

...I don't want to say that he is the next Steve Yzerman, but in a lot of ways he reminds of when Yzerman started taking over this team back in the mid 80's. You can just see him dominate the ice, day in and day out. I cannot tell you how amazed I was at his goal last night on the wrap around that turned into a wicked back-hander. What kind of hockey sense does this man have to (in full flight) do what he did. I would say even the Great Wayne Gretzky would have just tried for the wrap-around. But to draw CuJo out like he did, and then pretty much pass the puck to himself and completely "roof" a perfect back-hander!?!?! I was in awe! I would say this is the first time I can actually say that about the Wings this season, and this guy IS the real deal. Say what you want about Crosby and his goal from his knees and his "one for the ages" as Darren Pang so aptly put it. Do you think that Darren was watching ths game last night? If so, this one goal alone, outshines ANY goal I have seen from Crosby. Now, before you Crosby lovers jump all over me, I am not saying that Henrik is better than, or is going to be better than. That remains to be seen. But I think if you put Henrik on a team like Pittsburgh, he just may be leading the league in scoring as well, at least in the top 5. Put Crosby on a pretty evenly spread out team like Detroit, and he probably isn't leading the league.

...this guy is special,I admit it. Now, I don't want to turn this into a trade Datsyuk thread, but when it comes down to which one of these guys you give the bucks to and which one you trade or let go, I think the choice is overwhelmingly obvious we must keep Zetterberg at all cost and for his entire career. I have been a Wings devote fan since Stevie was drafted and I swear to the almighty, I have not seen a player this good in a winged wheel, at this young of age, since. I am a huge Fedorov fan, but Fedorov thrived with a team full of superstars (not taking away from anything Fedorov accomplished here in Detroit.) Zetterberg, on the other hand is pretty much on a team that has 2 superstars and about 5 "great" players, and that may be an exageration, and the rest mediocre at best.

...I am not one to eat crow willingly, but man it is tasting pretty good today!

As I said earlier today, great goal, but I don't see this magical aspect that you are seeing. I think I see where you might be looking at the play thinking he pushes the puck forward to himself as he came around to avoid Cujo's stick and then roofs it, but he actually looses control of the puck as he's coming around. If you look at the replay, if he didn't lose control, it looks like he would have been simply trying the wrap around, a play, as you put it, is all even Gretzky would have tried.

The thing that puts him past Datsyuk is that he has just as much skill without the Russian Greed......

Let's not be confused, I am by no means disputing his greatness, he is my favourite player on the team and has a lot of potential. I was simply looking at a replay of the goal and I didn't think what happened was as described.

...well, every player wants to get paid, and if I recall, Zets also held out for a little while (not as long as Dats) but settled for a longer and much less lucritive contract. No worries though, his day will come when he is making Lidstrom type money, I just hope he is stil in the Winged wheel when he gets it!

...ona side note, I think there is no question that when Lids retires, Zetts will be the next Captain...

I've been a big Zetterberg fan since 2003-04. I hope he's a Red Wing for life.

I've been a Z fan since he was in Sweden...right before we drafted him. He's money. And I agree..I hope he's a Red Wing for life.

...I do believe it's his greatness along with Lids and Holmstrom that could very well bring Forsberg here to Detroit...

...I do recall in 2002 Olympics, Henrik was the ONLY NON-NHL player on Team Sweden's roster. That speaks wonders of his talents, even back then! Hard to believe he fell so far in the daft... kudos to Holland and staff on that one!

(BTW, why all of a sudden is this forum getting spammed with porn site advertisments? Very disturbing...(not porn, I do like that, but disturbing that the spammers have made it to our sacred forum...))

Oh, yes, the dreaded Russian Greed. So much greedier than the Swedish greed, Finnish Greed, Canadian Greed, and the american greed which really isn't greed at all, it's just sound business practice. :P

Here we go again, Everyone is Greedy, its not nothing to do with what Nation you are from, The human race is Greedy simple as that. I don't beleive Datsyuk is greedy at all, He is a skilled player and will get everything he can to better his family. I'm with him all the way, if the choice was better my family and make as much money as I can so they can have things I might not ever had, or lets see option B Don't take as much money as I could so the Fans and especially the ones on LGW will like me better, Well I can honnestly say I'd have to say I would let the fans call me Greedy all they want and I'd be smiling all the way to the bank. Is Nick Lidstrom greedy?? since he is the highest player on the team?? Nope I wouldn't say so but with your theory one could say so.

I don't want to take anything away from Hank but Why does everyone give him all the credit and say we must do everything to keep him at all cost, and then act like Pavel is disposable ??? Like I said not to take anything away from Hank but he wouldn't be as good without having Pavel around and the same goes for Datsyuk He wouldn't do the same without Hank, They are the EuroTwins and you know what you have to do with Twins right??? Never Seperate them.

It's not a matter of "let's get rid of Pavel." It's more like "if I had to choose I would keep Hank, not Pavel." They are both amazingly skilled players. And yes, they play great together. But Zata's (seeming) ability to bring it every night, along with high praise from coaches around the league, a nod to the All-Star game, consideration for the Selke, maturity and leadership to acquire the "A" all make him a more desirable mainstay in Detroit. See what I'm saying?

Because Pavel is a greedy Russian and everyone knows Hank would play for minimum wage just for the honor of being a Red Wing. Duh :sly:

 Minimum wage!

I mean, Hank once called me and said, if they don't pay me to play for the Red Wings...I'll pay them to play!
